Abstract

Vegetable and fruit consumption is an essential component of a healthy diet because it provides vitamins, minerals, dietary fiber, and antioxidant compounds that help maintain health and prevent various diseases. However, the intake of vegetables and fruits among school-aged children remains relatively low, highlighting the need for educational interventions to improve knowledge and awareness from an early age. This community service activity aimed to increase students’ understanding of the importance of consuming vegetables and fruits as natural sources of antioxidants. The activity was conducted on April 30, 2026, at SDS IT Al Wahdah Kendari and involved 25 students consisting of 14 girls and 11 boys. The educational methods included interactive lectures, discussions, question-and-answer sessions, and educational games supported by PowerPoint presentations. The materials covered the definition of antioxidants, the health benefits of vegetables and fruits, examples of antioxidant-rich foods, and the importance of daily vegetable and fruit consumption. Evaluation was carried out descriptively through observation of students’ participation and engagement during the activity. The results showed that students enthusiastically participated in all educational sessions, actively engaged in discussions, and were able to explain the benefits of vegetable and fruit consumption as well as identify various antioxidant-rich foods. This activity demonstrates that school-based nutrition education is an effective strategy for improving students’ understanding of healthy eating habits and promoting vegetable and fruit consumption from an early age.

Abstract

Community empowerment is an important approach to enhancing community capacity and participation in addressing environmental health issues independently and sustainably. In Widodomartani, Ngemplak, household waste management, particularly organic waste, remains a challenge. Some residents dispose of organic waste on vacant land without prior treatment, while others still burn inorganic waste generated from daily activities. These practices may contribute to environmental pollution and health problems. One alternative solution to reduce organic waste generation is the use of biopore infiltration holes made from recycled gallon containers. Biopores function to increase soil water absorption and serve as a medium for organic waste decomposition. This community service program aimed to improve community knowledge and skills in waste management through the application of biopore technology using used gallon containers. The program was implemented through several stages, including problem identification, health education, community self-survey, and cadre training. Educational and participatory approaches were applied, with students serving as facilitators in delivering education and practical training to community cadres. This activity is expected to increase community awareness and independence in managing organic waste, thereby supporting the creation of a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment.

Abstract

Wonosari Village has abundant natural resource potential and the majority of its residents work as farmers, still facing challenges in achieving food independence. One of the problems that arise is the decline in land quality due to the continuous use of chemical fertilizers. This condition has an impact on agricultural productivity which tends to stagnate, production costs increase, and the quality of the harvest is less than optimal. The purpose of this Community Service activity is to provide socialization and assistance in the manufacture of organic fertilizers and organic amino acids from lemuru fish and vegetable waste produced by the Wonosari Village community. This activity was carried out on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, which took place at the farmer's house, this activity began with the implementation of a pretest, providing material on organic fertilizers, post test, practical work on making organic fertilizers, and continued with a demonstration of trial applications of organic fertilizers on plants. The socialization and demonstration of organic fertilizers given to the community have an impact on increasing community knowledge/abilities. In other words, the activities carried out are effective in providing positive changes in community knowledge from before to after the socialization.

Abstract

Traditional food-based micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) such as Kue Baruasa play an important role in household income and the preservation of local culinary heritage, yet their sustainability strongly depends on the application of food safety principles in the production process. A preliminary survey of the Baruasa Mama Eda MSME in Tapulaga Village, Soropia Subdistrict, Konawe Regency found that partners' understanding of hygiene sanitation and Good Manufacturing Practices for processed food (CPPOB) remained low. This community service activity aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of MSME partners regarding food safety principles through direct counseling. The implementation method involved coordination with the local village and subdistrict government, face-to-face counseling covering the five keys to food safety, the CEK KLIK product-checking strategy for purchasing raw materials, safe food storage and processing techniques, and control of biological, chemical, and physical contamination, followed by an evaluation using pre-test and post-test questionnaires administered to 40 partner respondents. The results showed an increase in the average knowledge score on the food safety and CPPOB aspect from 37.5% (pre-test) to 99.5% (post-test), the highest gain among the program components. Overall, partners' average knowledge score increased from 43.17% to 99.67%, with all 40 respondents (100%) falling into the "Very Good" improvement category. Food safety counseling proved effective in improving the understanding of Kue Baruasa MSME partners and should be followed by sustained field mentoring on the implementation of food safety practices.

Abstract

Coastal areas are dynamic environments that are highly susceptible to changes caused by geomorphological processes, particularly coastal abrasion and accretion. Limited coastal literacy and students' spatial awareness of coastal dynamics often constrain understanding of shoreline changes and the importance of sustainable coastal environmental management. This condition served as the basis for implementing a Community Service Program (PKM) aimed at strengthening coastal literacy and enhancing students' spatial awareness through field-based geography learning on the dynamics of coastal abrasion and accretion at Mempawah Beach. The learning activities employed interactive lectures, group discussions, field observations, identification of abrasion and accretion landforms, shoreline change observations, and the completion of student worksheets (LKPD). The program was evaluated descriptively through field observations, group discussions, and an analysis of students' worksheet responses without employing pre-test or post-test assessments. The results indicate that the participants were able to recognize the characteristics of coastal abrasion and accretion based on geomorphological features observed in the field, identify factors influencing shoreline changes, and explain the relationship between natural processes and human activities in shaping coastal dynamics. Furthermore, the field-based learning activities provided meaningful contextual learning experiences that promoted the development of coastal literacy, spatial thinking skills, and environmental awareness regarding coastal conservation and mitigation efforts. Therefore, field-based geography learning can be considered an effective approach to strengthening students' coastal literacy and spatial awareness through direct interaction with real-world coastal environments, thereby fostering long-term environmental stewardship and sustainable coastal conservation attitudes.
