Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of healthcare workforce, educational infrastructure, and non-food per capita expenditure on the Human Development Index (HDI) in Humbang Hasundutan Regency, North Sumatra, Indonesia. Using time-series data from 2005 to 2022 and applying multiple linear regression analysis through SPSS 26, the research finds that both healthcare workforce and educational infrastructure significantly and positively influence the HDI. However, non-food per capita expenditure does not exhibit a significant effect on the HDI. These findings suggest that improvements in healthcare and education are pivotal in driving human development in the region. Policymakers are advised to focus on strengthening these key sectors to ensure sustained socio-economic growth. The study contributes to the existing literature on human development by providing region-specific insights and emphasizes the importance of tailored policy interventions for improving HDI at a local level.

Abstract

This study investigates the legal considerations in a corruption case surrounding land transactions in Desa Parparean, Kecamatan Porsea, Kabupaten Toba. The defendants, Daulat Napitupulu and Lumongga Marsaulina Aruan, held land leased to PT. Dok Bahari Nusantara for ship construction. The Ministry of Transportation later selected this land for a shipyard project to enhance tourism in the Lake Toba region. Allegations of corruption emerged during the land certification and compensation processes, prompting legal proceedings. This research applies a normative juridical approach, analyzing judicial decision-making in Case No. 5/Pid.Sus-TPK/2023/PN Mdn, focusing on whether the defendants misused their authority in certifying and compensating for the land. The findings reveal complex historical and cultural dynamics, particularly around the ancestral and communal (ulayat) land rights of indigenous communities in Lake Toba. The court’s evaluation extended to regulatory inconsistencies, highlighting the need to balance environmental protection with national development interests. Although no procedural or legal violations were found in this case, the decision underscores the importance of clear legal processes in protected areas. It also validates the defendants' land ownership certificate and the compensation determined through lawful and independent appraisal. This case emphasizes the critical role of transparent judicial procedures and the protection of indigenous land rights within national strategic projects.

Abstract

Commercial banking in Nigeria has experienced immense growth since the turn of the century. This growth is largely attributed to the increased use of information technology in banking operations. Banks in Nigeria have now adopted IT systems to better manage customer data, processing financial transactions, and providing customers with better access to banking services. Linear Regression analysis was carried out to determine the effect of the independent variable on the dependent variables. The t, F and Durbin Watson statistic tests were also carried out to determine the individual significance, overall joint significance and goodness of fit of the model respectively. The regression results indicated that there was a positive and significant relationship between profitability and customer independent technology. The results also revealed ATMs, POS, MMO, and IBT were a key determinant of banks performance.  For example, banks in Nigeria can now offer customers online banking services, which make it easier for customers to access their accounts and transfer money. Banks can also benefit from IT systems to increase efficiency in processing transactions. This allows banks to reduce their costs and increase their profits .Overall, the adoption of IT in Nigerian banks has had a positive effect on their performance. The use of IT has allowed banks to increase their efficiencies, improve customer service, and increase their profitability.

Abstract

Rheumatoid arthritis (AR) is a chronic autoimmune disease that causes symmetrical inflammation of small and large joints and other organs. AR treatment has evolved with the introduction of Biological Disease-Modifying Antirheumatic Drugs (bDMARD) that target specific immunological pathways in AR pathogenesis thereby increasing the effectiveness of therapy. The study aims to review the side effects of bDMARD and its immunological mechanisms. The method used was a literature review by searching for articles from scientific databases related to the side effects and immunological mechanisms of bDMARD in AR. Results suggest that bDMARD are effective in controlling inflammation and preventing joint damage, but have significant side effects, including an increased risk of serious infections such as tuberculosis reactivation and opportunistic infections such as shingles. In addition, there is a risk of malignancy, major cardiovascular events (MACE), gastrointestinal disorders, and hematological disorders such as neutropenia. The immunological mechanism of bDMARD involves inhibition of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α and IL-6, as well as suppression of T cell activation and B cells that play a role in AR inflammation. In conclusion, although bDMARD provide significant therapeutic benefits in AR treatment, monitoring side effects ensures long-term safety.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is one of the degenerative diseases whose prevalence continues to increase globally, including in Indonesia, due to modern lifestyle changes. The 2023 Independent Community Service Program (KKN) was held in Ward VIII, Sukaraja Village, Medan City, with the aim of increasing public knowledge and awareness about DM. This activity includes counseling on the definition, risk factors, symptoms, and prevention of DM, which is complemented by checking blood sugar levels for the community. It includes an educational approach with presentations and PowerPoint posters to keep participants interested, as well as two-way interaction through question and answer sessions. A total of 50 participants participated in this activity, with high enthusiasm and active participation during the discussion. The results of fasting blood sugar checks during KKN activities showed that 31 out of 50 participants (62%) had blood sugar levels above 126 mg/dL, which is included in the abnormal category. These findings indicate a high risk of diabetes in the local community. Education and intervention regarding a healthy lifestyle and regular check-ups are important steps to prevent and manage diabetes. The activity showed an increase in public understanding of DM, which was characterized by positive feedback during counseling and examination sessions. During the implementation of PowerPoint presentations on diabetes in KKN activities, some technical glitches may appear, such as hardware problems on laptops or projectors, PowerPoint files that do not open, or internet connection glitches if the material relies on online sources. Based on the evaluation, the program emphasizes the importance of continuous health education and cross-sector collaboration to increase public awareness of DM and other degenerative diseases.

Abstract

This study examines the comparative performance of three major asset classes—Bitcoin, gold, and the S&P 500—in addressing inflation and global economic dynamics from 2013 to 2024. Using historical data, the research analyzes price changes, trading volume, and value growth for each asset. Bitcoin recorded extraordinary growth of 8,518.54%, reflecting its widespread global adoption as an innovative digital asset. The S&P 500, a benchmark for stock market stability, achieved cumulative growth of 224.68%, while gold, a traditional safe-haven asset, saw moderate growth of 42.85%. To assess Bitcoin’s future potential, price projections were conducted using the Location Quotient (LQ) method with a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 51.81%. These projections estimate that Bitcoin's price could reach $755,417.95 by 2029, making it a highly promising long-term investment. However, Bitcoin's high volatility remains a key challenge for investors. This study also links asset performance to inflation rates in Indonesia, as reflected in the 58.82% increase in rice prices over the same period. Findings indicate that Bitcoin not only preserves wealth against inflation but also offers significantly higher profit potential compared to traditional assets. This article aims to provide insights for investors in formulating optimal portfolio diversification strategies by weighing the strengths and risks of each asset in the context of the digital age and evolving global economy.

Abstract

The ulos weaving business in Padang Bujur Village, Sipirok District, North Sumatra, plays a vital role in preserving cultural heritage and supporting the local economy. However, these enterprises face significant challenges, including inadequate financial management skills and limited digital marketing adoption. These issues were exacerbated during the COVID-19 pandemic, which disrupted traditional sales channels and reduced market demand. This program documents a community service program aimed at addressing these challenges through two key interventions: basic accounting training and the adoption of digital marketing strategies. The program provided artisans with practical knowledge in financial management, including transaction recording, cash flow management, and simple financial reporting. Furthermore, digital marketing solutions such as the creation of blogs, utilization of social media platforms, and optimization of e-commerce tools were introduced to expand market reach and improve product visibility. The results demonstrated a significant improvement in artisans' financial literacy and their ability to manage business finances transparently and effectively. Additionally, the implementation of digital marketing strategies increased customer engagement and broadened the market for ulos products, including access to national and international buyers. This program highlights the importance of integrating traditional craftsmanship with modern business practices to sustain micro-enterprises in the digital era. Future efforts should focus on advanced training and fostering partnerships with stakeholders to ensure long-term sustainability and growth.

Abstract

This study examines the juridical and non-juridical obstacles to the execution of court decisions in land inheritance disputes, focusing on error in objecto as highlighted in Supreme Court Decision Number 204 K/Pdt/2019. The case involved a geographical misidentification of the disputed object, which significantly delayed the execution process and hindered the enforcement of the court's ruling. Employing a normative juridical approach, this research utilizes statutory, case, and document analysis to explore the underlying issues. The findings reveal that the primary factors obstructing execution include error in objecto, objections from the judgment debtor, incompetence among law enforcement officers, lack of coordination and support from local government authorities, and the financial burden associated with the execution process. These challenges not only undermine the principle of legal certainty but also perpetuate substantive injustice for litigants. To address these issues, the study proposes preventive measures such as optimizing local inspections (descente), leveraging geospatial technology, and enforcing stricter standards against ambiguous lawsuits (obscuur libel). Corrective measures include the use of judicial review, Supreme Court advisory opinions, and sanctions for negligent judicial officers. By implementing these recommendations, the judiciary can enhance the effectiveness and enforceability of its decisions, ensuring greater legal certainty and fairness in land dispute resolutions.
