Abstract

The palm oil industry is a cornerstone of Indonesia’s economy, contributing significantly to GDP, exports, and employment. As the largest global palm oil producer, Indonesia supports a vast international market but faces challenges related to productivity and sustainability. This study investigates the influence of productivity, firm size, profitability, liquidity, and leverage on the intrinsic value of plantation companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) from 2018–2022. Employing a quantitative methodology, panel data regression analysis was applied to a sample of 14 companies, selected through purposive sampling, representing a focused yet representative subset of the population. Intrinsic value was calculated using the Free Cash Flow to Firm (FCFF) model under the Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) approach. The findings reveal that firm size significantly enhances intrinsic value, indicating that larger firms benefit from economies of scale and better access to financing. However, productivity, profitability, liquidity, and leverage, while positively correlated, show statistically insignificant effects, suggesting that external factors such as global commodity price volatility and inefficiencies in financial management may play a role. This study underscores the critical role of firm size in driving intrinsic value while calling for further exploration of external factors impacting the palm oil sector. The results offer valuable insights for investors and policymakers in fostering financial performance and sustainable industry growth.

Abstract

Major infrastructure developments, such as toll road construction, can significantly alter local economic dynamics by shifting accessibility patterns and consumer mobility. This study explores the sustainability of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Pasar Bengkel, Perbaungan District, North Sumatra, following the diversion of traffic due to the Medan–Tebing Tinggi toll road segment of the Trans-Sumatra Highway. Employing an integrated quantitative–strategic approach, the research combines Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with SWOT analysis to assess the effects of transportation infrastructure (X1), government policy (X2), and adaptive capacity (X3) on MSME sustainability (Y). The SEM results demonstrate that adaptive capacity exerts the most substantial influence on sustainability (β = 0.784, p < 0.001), followed by government policy support (β = 0.330, p = 0.007), whereas transportation infrastructure presents a non-significant effect (β = 0.136, p = 0.202). The structural model explains 68.7% of the variance in MSME sustainability (R² = 0.687). Complementing this, SWOT analysis places MSMEs in Quadrant II (WO strategy), reflecting high external opportunities—such as digital transformation, e-commerce access, and rest area integration—paired with internal challenges, including limited digital skills and disrupted foot traffic. These findings underscore the pivotal role of firm-level adaptability and targeted policy mechanisms in fostering resilience. The study contributes to the discourse on place-based regional planning by proposing actionable, evidence-based strategies that align infrastructure interventions with inclusive, sustainable local economic development.

Abstract

Carbon tetrachloride (CCl₄) is a commonly used hepatotoxic agent to induce liver injury via oxidative stress and the activation of hepatocyte apoptosis. One hallmark of apoptosis is the increased expression of Caspase-3, a key executor enzyme in the programmed cell death pathway. The ethanol extract of Mobe leaves (Artocarpus lacucha Buch-Ham.) is known to contain bioactive compounds such as flavonoids and triterpenoids, which have demonstrated hepatoprotective potential. This study investigates the hepatoprotective effects of ethanol extract of Mobe leaves (EEML) on Caspase-3 expression in the liver tissues of rats induced by carbon tetrachloride. This experimental study utilized 30 male rats randomly assigned into six groups. The negative control group received CCl₄ - and CMC-Na 1%, while the positive control group received silymarin and CCl₄. Four treatment groups received oral doses of EEML at 50, 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg body weight for 15 days with CCl₄ induction. Caspase-3 expression in liver tissue was analyzed using the immunohistochemistry (IHC) method and quantified based on the number of positively stained cells across five microscopic fields. The results showed a significant reduction in Caspase-3 expression (p<0.05) in the EEML-treated groups compared to the negative control, with the 400 mg/kg dose achieving an effect comparable to silymarin. These findings suggest that EEML possesses hepatoprotective properties through apoptosis inhibition, evidenced by decreased Caspase-3 expression in CCl₄ injured liver tissue.

Abstract

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) are two chronic conditions with increasing global prevalence, both associated with systemic inflammation, metabolic dysfunction, and alterations of the gut–liver axis. Recent evidence highlights a bidirectional relationship, where IBD patients show higher prevalence of NAFLD, while NAFLD is increasingly recognized as a comorbidity influencing IBD outcomes. Despite these intersections, the extent of overlap, shared mechanisms, and therapeutic implications have not been comprehensively mapped. This scoping review aimed to summarize the available literature addressing the interplay between IBD and NAFLD, with a focus on epidemiology, mechanisms, and therapeutic strategies. A systematic search was conducted across PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and Web of Science from 2015 to June 2025. Eligible studies included randomized controlled trials, observational cohorts, cross-sectional analyses, and translational research that evaluated the coexistence of IBD and NAFLD, shared pathophysiological mechanisms, or interventional approaches. Study selection followed PRISMA-ScR guidelines. Data were charted into evidence tables and synthesized narratively and with evidence mapping. Thirty studies were included: 15 focusing primarily on IBD with NAFLD relevance, and 15 addressing NAFLD with implications for IBD. Key findings demonstrated consistent associations between IBD and increased NAFLD prevalence, with obesity and metabolic syndrome as major risk enhancers. Shared mechanisms included microbial dysbiosis, bile acid metabolism, and proinflammatory cytokine pathways. Interventions such as probiotics, synbiotics, fecal microbiota transplantation, and metabolic agents (GLP-1 receptor agonists, SGLT2 inhibitors) showed cross-disease benefits, though evidence remains heterogeneous and largely preclinical or early-phase clinical. IBD and NAFLD represent overlapping inflammatory-metabolic conditions with significant clinical impact. Current evidence supports integrated management and early screening, yet robust interventional trials targeting both conditions are lacking. Future research should prioritize longitudinal and therapeutic studies to clarify causal pathways and optimize care.

Abstract

This study aims to conduct a systematic review and meta-synthesis on the role of social support in the prevention and recovery of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in vulnerable populations following natural disasters. Natural disasters can cause profound psychological impacts, particularly among vulnerable groups such as children, women, and the elderly. Social support has been shown to be an effective protective factor in reducing PTSD symptoms and accelerating psychological recovery post-disaster. This review includes 18 empirical studies published between 2000 and 2025, employing various research methods, including quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods. The findings indicate that emotional support from family, friends, and communities plays a significant role in reducing PTSD symptoms, while social support-based therapies, such as group play therapy, have also proven effective, especially for children affected by disasters. However, despite the effectiveness of social support, significant challenges remain, including limited access to mental health services and stigma surrounding mental health issues in disaster-affected areas. This study recommends strengthening community-based social support systems and further research on the long-term impacts of social support in PTSD recovery.
