Abstract

Kedawung seeds (Parkia timoriana) contain polyphenolics and flavonoids that can provide pharmacological activities, such as antioxidants. In several regions of Indonesia, kedawung seeds are preserved using the roasting method. This study aimed to analyze the effect of roasting on the content of phytochemical compounds and determine their antioxidant activity using the DPPH method. Roasted kedawung seeds were extracted using a maceration method in ethanol. Phytochemical screening was performed to qualitatively analyze the contents of several phytochemical compounds in the extract. The results showed that roasted kedawung seed extract contained alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, and terpenoids. Antioxidant testing was performed using the DPPH method with ascorbic acid as a positive control. The IC50 value of ascorbic acid, P. timoriana seed and roasted seed of P. timoriana measured each 12.3 ppm; 20.6 ppm and 9.8 ppm; which categorized as strong antioxidant compounds. These results indicated an increase in the antioxidant effect after roasted seed processing. Abstract

Hypertension is the leading cause of premature death worldwide. An estimated 1.28 billion  adults aged 30-79 years worldwide have hypertension. Treatment of hypertension is usually aimed at preventing morbidity and mortality from hypertension. The choice of drugs for each patient's hypertension depends on the metabolic and subjective side effects caused. This study aims to determine the effectiveness profile of antihypertensive drugs amlodipine 10 mg or lisinopril 10 mg in outpatients at the Sidoarjo Pratama Clinic for January- March 2023. This research method is observational, with a cross-sectional approach and data collection. Quantitative analysis was then done using the statistical program SPSS 24 with univariate analysis. The results of the independent t-test showed a significance value for the systolic category of 0.780 > 0.05 and a significance value for the diastolic category of 0.931 > 0.05. Abstract

Multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) is the resistance of Mycobacterium tuberculosis to at least two tuberculosis (TB) drugs, rifampicin and isoniazid. The disease requires a long treatment duration with several second-line drugs. This leads to a globally low success rate of approximately 56% for MDR-TB treatment.  Studies have reported that adverse drug reactions (ADRs) contribute to high rates of non-compliance, treatment discontinuation, and failure. This narrative review aimed to provide information about MDR-TB treatment modalities, various ADRs, challenges encountered in MDR-TB treatment, and instances of ADRs that can impact treatment success. This narrative review study was conducted by searching for scientific information from the primary electronic databases PubMed and Google Scholar, covering 2012-2022. Based on the literature search results, 14 studies were identified, demonstrating challenges in TB and MDR-TB treatment, along with 6 ADRs that can influence treatment success in MDR-TB patients. ADRs during MDR-TB treatment can affect patients’ physical, mental, and social well-being as well as their beliefs and behaviors related to treatment. Comprehensive support from families, communities, and healthcare providers is essential to assist patients in addressing treatment challenges and adverse ADRs. Rapid identification and strategies for monitoring and managing treatment challenges and ADRs can improve compliance and success of MDR-TB treatment. Abstract

Quercetin, like triterpenoids, decreases blood glucose levels. Quercetin has several limitations including low solubility, low percutaneous permeability, and low bioavailability. The formulation of quercetin preparations in a Nanostructured Lipid Carrier (NLC) system is one solution to increase its solubility. The quercetin NLC system was successfully formulated by the high shear homogenization method at a speed of 6000 rpm. The solid lipid glyceryl monostearate and  sunflower oil play important roles in the formation of NLC. The physicochemical characteristics examined in this study included the particle size, dispersion, viscosity, pH, and entrapment efficiency. The particle size of NLC quercetin ranges from 22.98 ± 0.008 nm to 41.04 ± 0.082 nm, with p-values < 0.05. The dispersion power of quercetin NLC ranges from 5.12 ± 0.11 cm to 7.01 ± 0.28 cm, p values < 0.05. The resulting pH range is 7.3 ± 0.01 to 7.4 ± 0.01, and the resulting viscosity is 223.7 ± 9.8 cps to 492.0 ± 0.0 cps. Entrapment efficiency range of (62.20 ± 0.245)% to (86.17 ± 0.287)% ( p < 0.05). The ratio of solid lipid concentration to liquid lipid concentration in NLC quercetin has a significant effect on particle size, dispersion, and entrapment efficiency.  Keywords: Nanostructured Lipid Carrier, Quercetin, Lipid, Glyceryl Monosterate, Sunflower Oil

Abstract

Natural deep eutectic solvents (NaDES) are obtained from an adequate mixture of hydrogen bond acceptors (HBA) and donors (HBD), which can bond through the interaction of hydrogen bonds to form a eutectic with a low melting point. NADES has been implemented in several studies as an effective extraction method, but it is still not widely used. C. papaya leaves and O. sanctum leaves have been widely known to have various pharmacological activities. The aim of this study was to determine the best analgesic ability of the NADES extract of C. papaya and O. sanctum leaves. The extraction process used was Microwave-Assisted Extraction (MAE). The liquid extract was tested for antioxidant activity and analgesic activity using doses of 600 mg/kgBW, 800 mg/kgBW, and 1000 mg/kgBW. The results show that The IC50 values of the NADES extract of C. papaya and O. sanctum leaves were 920 ppm and 882 ppm, respectively. Both analgetic percentages are equivalent to the positive control starting from a concentration of 800 mg/kgBW, where the analgetic percentage of the NADES extract of papaya leaves and basil leaves is 59.80% and 54.57% respectively that included in weak category. It can be concluded that both NADES extracts of papaya and basil leaves have analgetic capabilities.  Keywords: Natural Deep Eutectic Solvent (NADES), Carica papaya, Ocimum sanctum, analgetic activity.
