Abstract

Gouty Arthritis is a type of arthritis that occurs due to the accumulation of crystals. High uric acid can occur when the body has too much purine. This condition can occur in any joint, such as in the toes, ankles, knees, and most often in the big toe. There are many treatment methods for treating gout with pharmacology or non-pharmacology. As a medicinal plant, bay leaves (Syzygium polyanthum wight) can reduce hyperuricemia levels in the blood. Tannins, essential oils, and flavonoid components found in bay leaves can help relieve gouty arthritis. The double bond of the flavonoid structure allows it to control uric acid metabolism by binding to the activity of the purine degradation process. To further help eliminate excess uric acid, tannins and essential oils can increase urine production by the kidneys. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of bay leaf boiled water therapy on reducing uric acid levels. Method: The type of research that will be applied in this study is descriptive with a case study approach. This study used patients suffering from gout in Halim Perdanakusuma sub-district with 2 respondent subjects who had met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. After being given non-pharmacological therapy of boiled bay leaf water for 4 days, the patient showed a change in uric acid levels in the 1st respondent from 8.3 mg/dl to 5.6 mg/dl and the 2nd respondent from 8.5 mg/dl to 3.9 mg/dl. Therapy of Bay Leaf Water Decoction can reduce Uric Acid Levels in families suffering from gout.

Abstract

Dysmenorrhea is menstrual pain commonly experienced by adolescent girls and may interfere with daily activities. Pain management is still frequently reliant on pharmacological therapy, whereas non-pharmacological approaches may provide a safer and more practical alternative. This study aimed to describe the implementation of acupressure at the Hegu point (LI4) in reducing dysmenorrhea pain among adolescents. A descriptive case study design was employed involving two adolescent subjects with dysmenorrhea. The intervention consisted of Hegu point (LI4) acupressure administered once daily for three consecutive days. Pain intensity was assessed before and after the intervention using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). The instruments used included a standard operating procedure, a pain assessment form, and an observation sheet. The findings demonstrated a reduction in pain intensity in both subjects. In subject 1, the pain score decreased from 5 to 1, while in subject 2 it decreased from 6 to 2 after three days of intervention. These findings indicate that the implementation of Hegu point (LI4) acupressure was associated with a reduction in dysmenorrhea pain in both subjects. This therapy may serve as a potential non-pharmacological nursing intervention that can be performed independently; however, the findings remain descriptive and are limited by the small number of subjects.

Abstract

Auditory hallucinations, particularly command hallucinations, may increase the risk of self-harming behavior in patients with mental disorders. A simple and practical non-pharmacological intervention is needed to help patients shift their attention from hallucinatory stimuli to reality. This study aimed to describe the implementation of a grounding technique using a stress ball to reduce self-harming behavior among patients with auditory hallucinations at Panti Sosial Bina Laras Cipayung. A descriptive case study design was employed involving three patients who experienced auditory hallucinations accompanied by self-harming behavior. The intervention was administered for four days. The level of self-harm was assessed before and after the intervention using the Self-Harm Screening Inventory (SHSI), supported by direct observation and daily response records. The results showed a decrease in self-harm scores in all participants, from 7 to 2 in respondent 1, from 11 to 3 in respondent 2, and from 14 to 5 in respondent 3. During the intervention, patients also appeared more able to shift their focus away from hallucinatory content, became calmer, and showed better cooperation. These findings indicate that the grounding technique using a stress ball may help reduce self-harming behavior in patients with auditory hallucinations. This intervention may be considered a simple non-pharmacological approach in psychiatric nursing practice; however, further studies with larger samples are needed.

Abstract

Dysmenorrhea is one of the most common complaints experienced by adolescent girls during menstruation and may interfere with their daily activities. Various non-pharmacological approaches have been used to help reduce menstrual pain, including pineapple juice and green coconut water. This study aimed to describe changes in menstrual pain intensity following the administration of pineapple juice and green coconut water among adolescent girls with dysmenorrhea at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Dirgantara Marsekal Suryadarma University, in 2026. This study employed a descriptive case study design involving four participants with dysmenorrhea. Pain intensity was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) before and after the intervention. Two participants received pineapple juice, while the other two received 250 mL of green coconut water twice daily for three consecutive days during menstruation.  The observational findings showed that all participants experienced a reduction in pain intensity during the three-day observation period. Among participants who received pineapple juice, pain scores changed from 6 to 2 and from 5 to 1. Among participants who received green coconut water, pain scores changed from 6 to 3 and from 5 to 1. These findings describe the changes in pain intensity observed in each participant during the observation period. Because this study used a case series design with a limited number of participants, the findings should not be interpreted as evidence of comparative effectiveness or causality.

Abstract

Hypertension in pregnancy is a major maternal health issue risking complications for both mother and fetus. Warm water foot soak therapy can be applied as a complementary non-pharmacological intervention in maternal nursing care. Objective: To describe blood pressure changes in third-trimester pregnant women with hypertension through the implementation of warm water foot soak therapy. This descriptive case study involved two third-trimester pregnant women with hypertension in South Jakarta. Data collection was conducted over 7 days (March–April 2026) via interviews, observation, and blood pressure monitoring. The self-administered intervention used warm water (37–40°C) for 15–20 minutes, twice daily (morning and evening). Both subjects remained compliant with prescribed medical antihypertensive treatments during the study. After 7 days, a decreasing in blood pressure and subjective symptoms was observed. Subject 1's initial blood pressure (150/95 mmHg) changed to 125/80 mmHg (morning) and 120/80 mmHg (evening) on the final day. Subject 2's initial blood pressure (160/100 mmHg) changed to 130/80 mmHg (morning) and 125/80 mmHg (evening). The warm water foot soak therapy indicates a gradual in lowering blood pressure for both subjects. This complementary therapy can be considered a safe, supportive intervention in maternity nursing care.

Abstract

Primary dysmenorrhea is menstrual pain occurring without underlying gynecological abnormalities and may interfere with students’ activities and comfort. This case study aimed to evaluate the implementation of carrot juice and honey as non-pharmacological interventions for reducing primary dysmenorrhea pain among students at Universitas Dirgantara Marsekal Suryadarma. A descriptive case study design was employed using the nursing care process, including assessment, nursing diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The subjects were four students with primary dysmenorrhea. Two subjects received carrot juice twice daily for two days during menstruation, while the other two received honey for five days, comprising three days before and two days during menstruation. Pain intensity was assessed before and after the interventions using the Numeric Rating Scale. Following carrot juice administration, pain scores decreased from 6 to 3 and 2. Following honey administration, pain scores decreased from 4 to 1 and from 5 to 2. Pain reduction was also accompanied by decreased weakness and facial grimacing. The findings indicate that carrot juice and honey may have potential as complementary interventions in nursing care for primary dysmenorrhea. However, controlled studies with larger samples are required to confirm their effectiveness.

Abstract

Speech and language abilities are essential aspects of preschool children’s development because they support communication, social interaction, and learning. Children with speech and language delays require appropriate stimulation suited to their developmental stages. This study aimed to analyze the implementation of a picture-guessing game in improving the speech and language abilities of preschool children at Arafah Islamic Kindergarten. A quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design without a control group was employed. The participants were five children aged 3–5 years, selected through purposive sampling based on initial screening using the Developmental Pre-Screening Questionnaire (Kuesioner Pra Skrining Perkembangan/KPSP) and an observation sheet. The picture-guessing stimulation was administered for four days. Data were collected before and after the intervention using the KPSP and observation sheet. The results showed an increase in the mean observation score from 16.44 to 19.11 and the mean KPSP score from 2.6 to 3.4. Improvements were observed in vocabulary production, responses to simple questions, comprehension of instructions, and verbal expression. Therefore, picture-guessing games have the potential to improve preschool children’s speech and language abilities.

Abstract

Hypertension is an elevation in blood pressure that may lead to complications, including headache, which can impair comfort and daily activities. Autogenic relaxation is a non-pharmacological intervention that may help control pain by promoting the body’s relaxation response. This case study aimed to describe changes in headache intensity following autogenic relaxation therapy in patients with hypertension at dr. Esnawan Antariksa Air Force Hospital, Jakarta. A descriptive case study design with a nursing care approach was applied to two hypertensive patients experiencing moderate headache. The intervention was administered for 10–15 minutes once daily for three consecutive days. Pain intensity was assessed before and after the intervention using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), while data were collected through assessment, observation, pain measurement, and documentation. The results showed that the pain score of Subject A decreased from 6 to 3, whereas Subject B decreased from 5 to 1. Pain reduction was accompanied by greater relaxation, reduced muscle tension, and improvement in headache complaints. Autogenic relaxation therapy demonstrated potential as a complementary nursing intervention for hypertensive patients with headache. However, these findings were limited to two subjects and cannot be generalized as evidence of effectiveness in a broader population.
