Abstract

Background: Exclusive breastfeeding coverage in Indonesia remains suboptimal, reaching only 52.5% among infants aged <6 months (Riskesdas, 2021). One of the major contributing factors is hypogalactia or insufficient breast milk production. Traditional use of Polyscias scutellaria (mangkokan leaves) as a herbal galactagogue is common, although scientific evidence remains limited. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of health education combined with the consumption of P. scutellaria leaves in improving breastfeeding knowledge among postpartum mothers. Methods: A quasi-experimental pretest–posttest single-group design was applied. Nineteen breastfeeding mothers received structured breastfeeding counseling and consumed mangkokan leaf infusion for 28 days (3 g dried leaves, twice daily). Breastfeeding knowledge was assessed using a standardized questionnaire at pretest (T0) and posttest (T1). Results: The mean knowledge score increased significantly from 60 (pretest) to 95 (posttest), with a mean difference of +35 or a relative increase of 58.3%. This indicates that the intervention effectively improved maternal knowledge. Preclinical evidence supports the lactogenic potential of P. scutellaria, including increased prolactin and oxytocin levels and improved mammary gland histology in animal models. Conclusion: Health education combined with mangkokan leaf consumption significantly enhances breastfeeding knowledge among mothers. Further randomized controlled clinical trials are needed to confirm the efficacy and safety of P. scutellaria in directly increasing breast milk production.

Abstract

Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem that impacts child growth and increases the risk of degenerative diseases, including coronary heart disease. Prevention can begin early through nutrition education, healthy breakfast habits, physical activity, and consumption of iron tablets for adolescent girls. This Community Service Program was implemented at SMPN 1 Kampar with an Interprofessional Education (IPE) approach involving nutrition and midwifery professions. The activities carried out were pre-tests, breakfast together, physical activity in the form of gymnastics, nutrition education and post-tests. The media used were PPT, leaflets, booklets and posters. Target outputs include publication of articles in scientific journals and mass media as well as educational media that have been registered with HAKI. This program is expected to be able to form healthy living habits, prevent stunting from an early age, and reduce the risk of coronary heart disease in future generations.

Abstract

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a developmental condition that affects a child's ability to interact socially, communicate, and exhibit certain behaviors. Early detection is crucial in determining the effectiveness of interventions and improving the child's quality of life. This community service program is designed to broaden the understanding of parents and health center staff regarding the urgency of early autism risk screening through the Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers (M-CHAT). The program was implemented in Pekon Tambahrejo, Pringsewu District, involving 20 children aged 16 to 30 months and their parents. The implementation approach includes information sessions, M-CHAT form filling simulation exercises, active participant discussions, and pre- and post-tests to measure knowledge improvement. The program results showed an increase in participants' knowledge from 60% to 90% after education, reflecting the success of interactive learning methods. Based on the M-CHAT screening, all children examined showed “normal” results or were not at risk of autism. These findings indicate that education and training initiatives can raise public awareness of the importance of early detection of developmental disorders. In addition, this program serves as an example of the application of M-CHAT screening in maternal and child health (MCH) services at community health centers and integrated health service posts, thereby supporting promotion and prevention activities in the First 8000 Days of Life Program.

Abstract

Family Planning (FP) is one of the government's efforts to control population growth and improve maternal and child health. Low public knowledge about the importance of FP can affect participation in the use of contraceptives. This activity aims to increase public knowledge about the Family Planning program through health education activities. The activity was conducted by administering a pre-test to determine the initial level of residents' knowledge, followed by counseling on the benefits, types, and importance of FP, and concluded with a post-test to measure the increase in knowledge. Based on the evaluation results, out of 14 people, the number of those with good knowledge increased from 3 people before the counseling to 12 people after the counseling. This indicates an increase in public knowledge following the FP education activities. Health education on Family Planning is effective in increasing public knowledge and can be used as a promotive effort in the field of reproductive health.

Abstract

School-age children are individuals aged 6–12 years who experience rapid growth in physical, cognitive, emotional, social, and moral aspects. At this stage, children begin adapting to the school environment and developing independence and responsibility. This health education activity aimed to improve the knowledge of fourthgrade students at SDN 59 Pekanbaru regarding school-age developmental readiness. School-age children were chosen as the target group because this stage is a critical periodfor forming learning habits, discipline, and social skills that influence future developmental success. The program was conducted on October 29, 2025, with 27 participants (14 boys and 13 girls). Themethods used included lectures, discussions, and pre- and post-tests to measure students’ understanding. The results showed an increase in the average score from 85.19 (pre-test) to 93.33 (post-test), with all participants achieving a good category. The 8.14-point improvement indicates that the health education was effective in enhancing students’ comprehension and readiness related to school-age development in physical, cognitive, emotional, and social aspects. Therefore, this activity played an important role in fostering students’ awareness of the importance of supporting optimal growth and development during the school-age period.

Abstract

Tempe is a nutritious food that is easily digested by all age groups. The development of innovative food products provides many benefits, including increasing knowledge of protein consumption at a lower cost and with easier processing. Another benefit is enhancing the economy through the development of various tempebased snacks, as well as promoting dietary variety among different age groups. Tempe is made from fermented soybeans. The nutritional composition of tempe, including protein, fat, and carbohydrates, is higher than that of soybeans. The development of innovative food products has the potential to improve health, stimulate economic growth, and promote dietary diversity across age groups. However, many people, especially housewives and community health volunteers, do not fully understand the potential and benefits of tempe-based products in daily diets. Therefore, efforts are needed to provide education and training to empower them in processing tempe into a high-quality source of nutrition for families and communities. The expected outcomes of this community service activity include the creation of tempe-based product recipes and publication in a community service journal.

Abstract

Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) is the leading cause of death worldwide and in Indonesia. The incidence of cardiovascular disease continues to increase. PJK can be prevented by adopting a healthy lifestyle. The increase in cardiovascular disease (CVD) is due to the public's lack of knowledge about CVD risk factors, which leads to insufficient efforts by the public to prevent the disease. Preventing cardiovascular disease in the community is not only the responsibility of the government, but of all components within society, including community health workers. The role of cadres in organizing posyandu is very significant, not only as providers of health information but also as mobilizers of the community to attend posyandu. Thiscommunity service aims to increase cadres' knowledge and skills regarding the prevention of cardiovascular disease. The community service will be held from September 13th to October 25th, 2025, at the Pekan Heran Health Center. The implementation method began with a pretest of the cadres' knowledge about preventing cardiovascular disease (CVD), followed by practice and evaluation of the cadres' skills in educating about CVD, as well as practice and evaluation of their skills in measuring blood pressure and checking blood glucose and cholesterol. The data on the knowledge and skills of the cadres were statistically tested using the Paired sample T-test. The results of the statistical test for the knowledge and skills of the cadres showed a p-value of 0.000, meaning there was a significant improvement between the pretest and posttest scores of the cadres' knowledge and skills regarding the prevention of cardiovascular disease before and after the intervention.

Abstract

Changes in dietary patterns among Indonesian communities toward foods high in fat, sugar, and salt have contributed to an increased prevalence of nutritional imbalance, including in Central Maluku. This community service program aimed to improve adolescents’ knowledge of balanced nutrition and healthy lifestyles in Dwiwarna Village. The activity was conducted in February 2025 using a pre-experimental design with a one group pretest–posttest approach. A total of 35 adolescents aged 13–18 years participated in nutrition education sessions involving interactive lectures, group discussions, and the use of printed leaflets. Knowledge was measured before and after the intervention using a structured questionnaire. Descriptive analysis showed an increase in mean knowledge scores from 58% to 90%, representing a 32-percentage-point improvement. Participants demonstrated strong engagement during discussions and showed better understanding of balanced diets utilizing local food sources. The results indicate that community-based nutrition education is effective in enhancing adolescents’ understanding of balanced nutrition. This program supports community-level nutrition improvement and contributes to achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2 on food security and nutrition.
