Abstract

Although the interplay of social media marketing (SMM) on brand image and purchase intention has been studied extensively, insights into the link between these variables in the context of the local product remain scarce, specifically from generation Z’s customer point of view. Therefore, this study aims to fill this theoretical gap by investigating the role of SMM on brand image and purchase intention of local products in the perception of generation Z. A survey-based data was collected using purposive sampling from 184 respondents of generation Z. The data were then analyzed using SmartPLS statistical software. The result reveals that SMM positively and significantly influences the brand image and Gen Z’s intention to purchase the local product. Meanwhile, brand image was a positive predictor of purchase intention. Additionally, brand image mediates the relationship between SMM and purchase intention, such that SMM influences brand image, leading to purchase intention.

Abstract

Although the impact of work-life balance and job satisfaction on employee performance has been extensively studied, there still lacks a comprehensive understanding of the interplay among these variables among millennials and generation Z (gen Z) employees. This present inquiry, therefore, aims to systematically analyze how work-life balance and job satisfaction affect millennials’ and gen Z’s performance. Following a systematic literature review approach, relevant studies published in 2018-2022 were derived from two main academic databases (Google scholar and Research gate). Thirty-five peer-reviewed articles were then carefully selected and analyzed. The result shows that (1) work-life balance and job satisfaction positively affect millennial’s and gen Z’s performance; (2) gen Z are more idealists in thriving for work and growth (3) millennials and gen Z put a value on the supportive work environment, supportive supervisor, and career opportunity for job satisfaction (4) millennial and gen Z put a value on flexibility of work hours, annual leave and work from home for work-life balance.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze how far the internalization of the Pesantren (Islamic Boarding School) values as social capital has become a strategy for solving economic business development problems in Pesantren. One of the main problems Pesantren faces in developing economic businesses is the low quality of human resources and the governance of these economic institutions. The presence of economic businesses within Pesantren holds significant importance. Aside from ensuring the economic sustainability of the institution, it also serves as a platform for nurturing student entrepreneurship, contributing to the overall economic growth of the community. Using the approach of Pesantren values (called Panca Jiwa or Five Principles), namely sincerity, simplicity, independent, Islamic brotherhood (Ukhuwah Islamiyah), and freedom, is expected to be one way to overcome these problems. This research applies the analytic network process, including field surveys, focus group discussions, and in-depth interviews with four groups of respondents: experts, academics, practitioners, and regulators. Respondents were determined by purposive sampling by making Gontor Islamic Boarding School a research location. The results showed that the values of the five principles are internalized into social capital and become solutions to solving problems, like increasing networks with alumni, cooperation between institutions, and so on. This study offers practical implications, namely enabling the resolution of human resource problems with the principle of Islamic brotherhood, and social implications- the success of the economic development of Pesantren can indirectly improve the economic welfare of the surrounding community.

Abstract

This study intended to test the effect of the quick ratio on manufacturing firms’ profitability in Indonesia. To measure the profitability, three dependent variables were used: Net Profit Margin (NPM), Return On Assets (ROA) and Return On Equity (ROE). Several variable controls were used: firm size, variability in net operating income, sales growth, gross domestic product growth, and leverage. A total of 158 manufacturing firms with published financial statements from 2012 to 2016 were analyzed using a regression method. It is found that quick ratio has positive effects on manufacturing firms’ NPM and ROA. However, the same effect is not found on ROE.

Abstract

The performance and productivity of any enterprise is a contentious topic of discussion in development. This research looks at the performance of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and how they are regulated to increase company productivity. Specifically, the paper sought to establish how policies and regulations contribute to leadership tasks, loyalty, employee motivation and job performance, affecting a firm’s production capacity. Policies and Regulations are examined in this paper because to enhance the performance of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, the government of Indonesia issued regulation No. 20/2008, Article 3 about Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises intending to support the growth and development of the economy since 99% of the country’s economy is support by SMEs which also employees 97% of the working population of the country, yet there is still limited research on policies in relation performance and Productivity of SMEs. Though policies are a fundamental component in business growth, it has been established that employee performance affects company productivity, affecting local employment rates. The sample population was taken from Indonesia’s Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) employees. The sample size was 250, and PLS software was applied to analyze the data. The study’s findings showed the leadership role’s significance concerning existing Policies and Regulations regarding SMEs. It was also revealed that motivational policies enable employees to go beyond expectations and show higher levels of job performance in their respective tasks, increasing productivity.

Abstract

This study focuses on cash flow, sales growth and net income as the main aspects investigated to determine how the three aspects impact stock prices within the studied companies. Based on this point, this paper sought to determine the impact of cash flow, sales growth, and net profit on stock prices in the Coal Mining Companies listed on Indonesia’s Stock Exchange from 2012 to 2017. The study used an analytical method, applying a descriptive analysis approach to verify the results. The population in this study were five coal mining companies listed on the Indonesian Stock Exchange from a list of those considered real coal mining companies. The data considered was for six years, ranging from 2012 to 2017. The sample used was purposive sampling, considering certain criteria required to establish an appropriate sample for the study. The authors later used the analytical method of multiple linear regression for data analysis. The results of hypothesis testing in this study indicate that: changes in cash flow have a significant positive effect on stock prices, changes in sales growth have a significant positive influence on stock prices, and changes in net income have a significant positive effect on the stock price in the coal mining companies listed on the Indonesian Stock Exchange.

Abstract

Industrialization fundamentally aims to enhance the quality of life and the welfare of people. However, insufficient management of residual production waste generates adverse effects on both the environment and the inhabitants residing near industrial zones. In response, the government has established regulatory measures for environmental protection and management through Government Regulation Number 22 of 2021. This regulation seeks to strike a balance between the community’s economic interests and environmental sustainability, safeguarding the rights of citizens. The core objectives of this research are to assess the state of environmental policies within the Sukaregang leather tanning industrial area, to scrutinize the implementation of environmental management practices, and to evaluate the impact of Government Regulation Number 22 of 2021. Employing a qualitative case study approach, the research centers on the Sukaregang leather tanning industrial area, a pivotal hub for the leather industry and a symbol of the Garut Regency. The data collection involves interviews with key stakeholders, including the Environmental Service, the leather tanning industry, and the affected community. The research concludes that while policies based on Government Regulation Number 22 of 2021 are in place, complementary local regulations are absent. The current implementation of environmental management continues to engender negative externalities in sectors such as agriculture, health, and environmental pollution. To address the shortfalls in achieving policy goals and objectives, it becomes imperative to establish local regulations that facilitate cost-sharing in the waste treatment process, utilizing Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) technology. Such measures are essential for upholding environmental quality for the residents of industrial areas.

Abstract

Education is an urgent matter in every culture and civilization. With education, mankind can change themselves and their civilization. The same is true for the process of spreading Islam in Indonesia. Since Islam was first introduced in Indonesia, its spreading has been inseparable from people’s daily lives, including the building and shaping of the education sector (Rochmawati et al., 2018; Vickers, 2013; Hasan, 2009). Java Island is one of Indonesia’s regions with a wider history of Islamic education (Ricklefs, 2012; Woodward, 2010). In the present manuscript, the author examines the contribution of Muslim scholars in developing Indonesia’s modern education. Data were collected from both primary and secondary sources. The mediator and social agency method has been used to facilitate the investigation. The author conducted a structural study that reconstructs historical events and occurrences regarding educational development and transformation in the country. The study’s findings are based on the question, “What is the contribution of Muslim Scholars in the development of Indonesia’s modern education, and how is the education process on Java Island? This question laid the foundation for this study, and it helps to understand the functions of local Muslim scholars in the development of education between the 19th and 20th centuries in the Indonesian archipelago. The findings show that the characteristics of Muslim scholars’ movements regarding education on Java Island consist of mainly two stages. Firstly, education is conducted at mosques, which later developed into Islamic schools classified as madrasahs and pesantren (Azra, 2018). In the second stage, education efforts are converted from its form of Islamic schools into Islamic organizations, leading to the establishment of several educational institutions and public schools, ranging from kindergarten to higher education (Daulay & Tobroni, 2017; Azra, 2015). Finally, it concludes that Indonesia’s education developed in stages, from education at mosques and small community gatherings in residences of Muslim scholars to Islamic schools. Finally, Islamic organizations were formed to develop today’s public education system.

Abstract

The ever-expanding Indonesian cyberspace has ushered in significant economic growth to the country’s online business and e-commerce. This is due to the country’s rising internet penetration rate of 73% of its total population, with about 204 million people connected to the internet. This high connectivity has brought about several positive socio-economic opportunities but with other thorny issues like cybercrime, misinformation, cyber-induced intolerance, disinformation, trolling and cyber warfare. Despite the Indonesian government’s intervention with measures to regulate cyber activities, some devious cyber practices undefined in legal literature continue to be practiced, even passed as legitimate, sometimes leading to negative consequences. These practices are often conducted as organized operations that target populations to create mistrust and polarize the targeted population. Some are crafted as cyber warfare declared by entities within a country or from a foreign country targeting another’s populace, which poses a threat to social order. This paper explores these devious cyber practices and their strategies and mitigation possibilities. A sociological research approach coupled with the use of law enforcement theory was applied to study and analyze Indonesia’s cyber security law enforcement policies, the Internet and Electronic Transaction (ITE) Law, the Criminal Prosecution Act, the Constitutional law, civil society actors and private sector actors on cyber security. Indonesian law and international law, coupled with available technology, were reviewed for readiness to address threats posed by these devious cyber issues to social order. Measures taken by the Indonesian government are in readiness to combat these cyberspace issues in its jurisdiction but also present more questions on the proposals for reviews to the legislation and introduction of content monitoring systems, which risk being inappropriately deployed in censorships or suppression of legitimate freedom of expression.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the behavior of herding investors due to the information on interest rates and trading volume. By using daily infrastructure company data on the IDX, it is found that interest rates have a negative effect, while volume has a positive effect on herding behavior. The results show that herding behavior decreases when information on interest rates is entered, while herding behavior increases when there is a trend in trading volume. These results indicate that information announced and scheduled will reduce the behavior of herding investors, such as information about interest rates. On the other hand, investor herding behavior tends to increase when information is random, such as trends in stock trading volumes.
