Abstract

Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) are a widely used class of medications for managing pain and inflammation. However, long-term use of NSAIDs has been associated with an increased risk of gastrointestinal disorders, including Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD). This study aims to analyze the impact of NSAID use on GERD patients based on recent research findings. The literature search was conducted through national and international databases such as Elsevier, Google Scholar, and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) National Library of Medicine, using keywords including GERD, NSAID, LES (Lower Esophageal Sphincter), gastric acid, reflux, and regurgitation. A total of 25 journal articles published between 2016 and 2024 were used as data sources. The findings indicate that NSAIDs inhibiting cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) can reduce prostaglandin production, which plays a protective role in the gastric mucosa, thereby increasing the risk of irritation and acid reflux. Conversely, selective COX-2 NSAIDs have a lower risk of gastrointestinal side effects, making them a safer alternative for patients with chronic pain and inflammation. This study highlights the importance of selecting the appropriate type of NSAID and monitoring its long-term use to minimize the risk of gastrointestinal disorders, particularly in patients with a history of GERD. By considering these factors, it is hoped that complications related to NSAID use in patients with digestive issues can be reduced.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder characterized by chronic hyperglycemic conditions. The hyperglycemic condition is caused by abnormalities in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both. DM is a global epidemic that causes high rates of morbidity and mortality, primarily due to microvascular and macrovascular complications. The number of diabetes mellitus (DM) patients has dramatically increased in the last 20 years. The purpose of this research is to identify the factors influencing the occurrence of Diabetes Mellitus at Imelda Pekerja Indonesia General Hospital in 2024. The research method uses a descriptive method to describe the object being studied. The research population consists of 292 with non-probability sampling using the consecutive sampling method. A sample of 40 respondents. Using a questionnaire. The research results show that out of 40 respondents, 15 respondents (37.5%) have good knowledge criteria, 24 respondents (60%) have sufficient knowledge criteria, and 1 respondent (2.5%) has poor knowledge criteria. It can be concluded that there are two factors influencing a person's knowledge: internal factors and external factors. The internal factors are education, age, and occupation, while the external factors are the environment and socio-cultural aspects.

Abstract

The development of digital technology brings great opportunities in the world of education, especially in the health sector. Augmented Reality (AR) is one of the technological innovations that is able to integrate virtual objects into the real environment in real-time, providing a more immersive and interactive learning experience. This article aims to explore the integration of AR in anatomy learning based on literature studies from international journals. Using a qualitative approach based on literature studies, this study examines various findings from foreign scientific journals regarding the effectiveness, challenges, and potential of using AR in anatomy education. The results of the study show that AR is able to improve students' visual understanding, learning engagement, and information retention. However, there are also challenges in terms of development costs, technology access, and teacher readiness. AR has great potential as a medium for anatomy learning in the digital era, but its implementation requires adequate infrastructure and training support.

Abstract

Background: Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) remains a critical global health issue, with 88.4 million infections and 42.3 million AIDS-related deaths to date. In 2024 alone, 39.9 million individuals are living with HIV, 630,000 deaths occurred, and 1.3 million new infections were recorded. Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate/Lamivudine/Dolutegravir (TLD) is a widely used antiretroviral therapy, but its reproductive and oxidative effects remain underexplored in female models, particularly in the South-South region of Nigeria. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the reproductive toxicity and oxidative stress effects of TLD on the ovaries and uterus of adult female Wistar rats. Methods: Ten adult female Wistar rats (156–187g) were divided into control and treatment groups (n=5). The control group received standard diet and distilled water, while the treated group received daily doses of TLD (Tenofovir 5 mg, Lamivudine 5 mg, and Dolutegravir 0.8 mg/kg body weight) for 90 days. At the end of the treatment, animals in estrus phase were sacrificed for biochemical, histological, and hormonal analysis. Results: The treated group showed a significant reduction in body weight but no significant changes in ovarian or uterine weight. Oxidative stress analysis revealed decreased MDA and increased SOD, GPx, and CAT in the uterus. Hormonal levels were not significantly different. Histologically, the treated group displayed impaired follicular development, atretic follicles, cysts, enlarged endometrial cavities, and thicker endometria. Conclusion: TLD administration induced notable reproductive alterations in female Wistar rats, highlighting potential implications for its use in women of reproductive age.
