Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors that contribute to the emergence of female leaders in Aceh Besar, a region known for its strong adherence to patriarchal values. Despite the socio-cultural constraints, five women have attained strategic and sacred leadership positions, challenging traditional gender norms. Employing a qualitative approach, this research utilizes a phenomenological method to explore the lived experiences of these female leaders within the socio-cultural dynamics of Aceh Besar. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and observations, allowing for a comprehensive understanding of the underlying factors that support their leadership roles. The findings reveal that the rise of female leaders in Aceh Besar is driven by a combination of intellectual capacity, social capital, and active participation in public affairs. Their leadership roles signify a shift in societal perceptions, demonstrating that women are increasingly recognized as capable and influential figures in various sectors. Furthermore, their success highlights the evolving nature of gender roles in Aceh Besar, where women are gradually gaining equal opportunities alongside men. Theoretically, this study contributes to the discourse on gender and leadership in patriarchal societies, particularly in Islamic contexts. It underscores the significance of social capital and intellectual empowerment in enabling women to break traditional barriers and reshape societal norms.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the interactions and responses of the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) community toward the attitudes of the Indonesian Islamic Da'wah Institute (LDII) by examining the moderation practices implemented by NU figures and the community in Dasun Village, Lasem Sub-district, Rembang, Central Jawa. The research employs a qualitative approach with a field research methodology. The selection of research subjects was conducted using purposive sampling, focusing on informants with in-depth knowledge of NU's moderatism in Dasun Village. The primary subjects include religious and community leaders, village heads, officials, and religious figures affiliated with both NU and LDII, as well as four community members actively engaged in local activities. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, while data analysis was carried out using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings, analyzed through Talcott Parsons' theory of social change, reveal two key aspects. First, the social interactions of NU members reflect positive engagement, which extends beyond mere spatial coexistence to active participation in both social and religious activities. Second, viewed through Parsons' AGIL framework, NU religious and community leaders in Dasun successfully eliminated socio-religious barriers by fostering unity in communal events without emphasizing specific organizational or ideological affiliations. This approach aimed to build solidarity, cohesiveness, and shared responsibility. Furthermore, the integration of religious and community leaders played a crucial role in leveraging social dynamics to mobilize residents toward harmonious coexistence. This was achieved by maintaining togetherness, social cohesion, and latent solidarity, as well as preserving local traditions and cultural practices. These findings contribute to the theoretical discourse on religious moderation and social integration by demonstrating how grassroots leadership fosters harmony in pluralistic communities.

Abstract

This study aims to compare Western psychological interpretations of dreams with Islamic perspectives, particularly in Qur'anic exegesis and prophetic traditions. While Western theories, such as those of Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung, conceptualize dreams as manifestations of subconscious desires or archetypal imagery, contemporary neuroscience explains them as cognitive processes during sleep. In contrast, Islamic thought considers dreams as potential channels of divine communication, offering guidance or premonitions. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method through a literature review of psychological theories, Islamic tafsir, and hadith collections. The findings reveal that while Western perspectives emphasize psychological and neurological mechanisms, the Islamic framework views dreams as a metaphysical bridge between humans and the divine. The study concludes that dreams are multidimensional experiences integrating cognitive, emotional, and spiritual dimensions. Theoretically, this research enriches the discourse on the intersection of psychology and spirituality, offering a more comprehensive understanding of dreams beyond their neuropsychological basis.

Abstract

This study investigates the role of diversity tactics in dismantling classism, emphasizing the intersection between inclusive practices and social change. The objective is to examine how diversity initiatives, particularly those rooted in religious values of justice, compassion, and social responsibility, can challenge systemic class hierarchies. Methodologically, this research employs discourse analysis to critically assess existing literature on classism, its impact on marginalized communities, and the socioeconomic factors that sustain systemic inequities. The study explores diversity strategies implemented in educational institutions, corporate environments, and community organizations, integrating religious perspectives to highlight ethical imperatives for social equity. The findings reveal that initiatives such as affirmative action, equitable hiring practices, and community engagement effectively disrupt entrenched class structures. However, challenges such as tokenism, backlash, and resistance from dominant groups hinder their full implementation. The research underscores the necessity of adopting an intersectional approach, acknowledging how race, gender, and other social identities interact with class to create unique barriers. Religious teachings on economic justice, charity, and solidarity further reinforce the moral obligation to address class disparities. Theoretically, this study contributes to discussions on social equity by bridging diversity tactics with faith-based ethical principles, demonstrating how religious frameworks can enhance and legitimize efforts to combat classism. It calls for collaboration among policymakers, educators, faith leaders, and community advocates to foster environments where equitable access to opportunities and resources is recognized as a shared moral and social responsibility.

Abstract

This research examines the genealogy of Islamic secularism in Indonesia in the period 1920–1945 with a focus on the background of the emergence, changes, and continuity of the discourse. This study uses Karl Mannheim's sociology of knowledge approach to trace the origins of Islamic secularist thought and Michel Foucault's archaeology of knowledge to analyze the dynamics of continuity and discontinuity of discourse over time. The results show that the discourse of Islamic secularism developed in three main periods. First, in the 1920s, the discourse of Islamic secularism began to emerge through Javanese nationalism. Second, in the period from 1930 to early 1945, nationalism developed by emphasizing love and willingness to make sacrifices for the country. Third, in 1945, the discourse of Islamic secularism grew stronger along with the establishment of the nation state and Pancasila as the basis of the state. This study shows a continuity in Islamic secularism in the form of a separation between politics and religion (Islam), as well as changes in the form of discourse that developed in each period. This finding contributes to the study of Islamic thought in Indonesia by highlighting the dynamics of secularism discourse in a broader socio-political context.
