Abstract

Culture is the main foundation that becomes strength and stability for society, because it contains values, norms, and traditions that form a collective identity. From the perspective of Islamic Religious Education (PAI), culture is seen as a strategic means to internalize Islamic values that support the creation of social and spiritual harmony. PAI plays a role in combining religious values with local cultural elements to build a society with character, ethics, and justice. In this context, culture is not only a heritage, but also a learning medium to strengthen solidarity, increase awareness of the importance of diversity, and maintain social stability. Thus, the synergy between culture and Islamic Religious Education is able to create a society that is based on noble values and resistant to the challenges of the times.

Abstract

This study examines Ahmad Dahlan's thoughts on education as a means of community empowerment and social transformation. Ahmad Dahlan, the founder of the Muhammadiyah organization, viewed education as the primary tool to liberate Muslims from ignorance, backwardness, and social injustice. His educational approach integrated religious and general sciences while providing practical skills relevant to societal needs. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach with a literature study to explore Ahmad Dahlan's educational concepts and their application in community empowerment. The findings reveal that Ahmad Dahlan emphasized inclusive education, ensuring access for all social groups, including the poor and women, while focusing on the development of individuals with strong social and moral awareness. In his perspective, education functions as an agent of social change, fostering a more just, prosperous, and civilized society. Rooted in Islamic values, his educational model remains relevant in addressing modern educational challenges.

Abstract

The Society 5.0 era integrates digital technology with human values to create a human-centered society that addresses social issues, enhances quality of life, and promotes sustainability. Digital literacy and multidimensional skills are crucial in education to prepare students for global challenges. Strengthening literacy in reading, numeracy, science, finance, digital competence, and citizenship is key to adaptation and progress. However, literacy levels in Indonesia, including at MTs Negeri 1 Kota Prabumulih, require improvement to foster critical thinking and knowledge application. Based on multiliteracy and multidimensional theories, literacy development extends beyond text comprehension to include interactions with cultural, social, and technological contexts for meaningful learning. This qualitative study with a phenomenological approach explores students' literacy levels, relevant literacy concepts for Society 5.0, the integration of Islamic Education (PAI) values with literacy, and how PAI supports literacy enhancement at MTs Negeri 1 Kota Prabumulih. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The results indicate that students' literacy levels remain moderate, requiring enhancement. Literacy integration with PAI is evident in thematic approaches, linking zakat to financial literacy and Qur'anic verses to science. However, optimizing facilities, teacher training, and project-based learning is necessary for stronger literacy development.

Abstract

Funeral care is an essential religious obligation in Islam, yet many communities lack adequate knowledge and experience in performing proper funeral rites. This community service project aimed to provide education and practical training on caring for the deceased following Islamic teachings. Conducted in Sumur Bandung Hamlet, Haurgeulis District, Indramayu Regency, on January 31, 2025, the training involved 40 participants, including 10 men and 30 women. The methods used included lectures to deliver theoretical knowledge, demonstrations to show correct procedures, and hands-on practice to enhance participants’ skills. The results indicated a significant improvement in participants’ understanding and abilities in funeral care. Prior to the training, only 13 participants had prior experience or training, while 27 had never been exposed to funeral care procedures. By the end of the session, all participants had gained practical experience and demonstrated improved knowledge. This initiative not only enhanced religious literacy but also fostered social awareness and solidarity within the community. It is recommended that similar training programs be conducted regularly to ensure community readiness in fulfilling this religious duty.

Abstract

Islamic education plays a strategic role in supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the areas of social empowerment and environmental preservation. This research is motivated by the need for an educational approach that is not only religious but also capable of driving fair and sustainable social transformation. This study aims to analyze how Islamic education, especially through institutions such as Islamic boarding schools and madrasas, integrates sustainability values into curricula and daily practices. The method employed is qualitative research with a descriptive-analytical approach, examining various Islamic educational practices that align with the principles of the SDGs. The results show that Islamic values such as maslahah 'ammah (public benefit), justice, and the role of humans as khalifah (stewards) strongly support the foundations of sustainable development. Islamic educational institutions have been actively engaged in social, economic, and environmental activities, including skills training, Islamic entrepreneurship, reforestation programs, and waste management. Although challenges remain—such as limited resources and teacher training—Islamic education holds great potential to foster self-reliant and environmentally conscious communities. Through curriculum strengthening, continuous teacher development, and cross-sector collaboration, Islamic education can serve as a powerful driver of change toward a more just and sustainable future.

Abstract

Prophetic leadership of madrasah principals represents a highly significant leadership phenomenon. Various cases of bullying, brawls, sexual violence, and promiscuity have become serious threats for students, raising deep concern among parents. The existence of madrasah tsanawiyah is considered highly relevant for instilling akhlaqul karimah in the present era. Many parents place great expectations on madrasah tsanawiyah to provide their children with beneficial knowledge and to nurture noble character, whether in their conduct toward fellow human beings, toward the natural environment, or toward Allah SWT. The aim of this research is to explore the prophetic leadership of madrasah principals in cultivating akhlaqul karimah. The study employs a qualitative descriptive approach with a multi-site design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using single-case analysis and cross-case analysis. The validity of the data was ensured through credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability. The findings reveal that: (1) The vision of prophetic leadership among madrasah principals in instilling akhlaqul karimah is to develop students with the characteristics of the Profil Pelajar Pancasila and as rahmatan lil-‘alamin, grounded in exemplary conduct and implemented through several programs, including habituation activities, value-based learning, Qur’anic memorization and literacy, Friday infaq, role modeling, and collaboration with parents/guardians. (2) The integrity of prophetic leadership is reflected in serving as a role model, adopting an empathetic approach, being honest and transparent in delivering information and policies, assuming responsibility for all assigned duties, and consistently monitoring the moral conduct of students.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the reward system in improving the performance of educators at State Islamic Senior High Schools (Madrasah Aliyah) in Jambi Province. The research focuses on the reward mechanism, its implementation, and the factors that determine its effectiveness in improving educator performance. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The research locations include three madrasas: MAN 1 Tanjung Jabung Barat, MAN 1 Kota Jambi, and MAN 1 Merangin. The results show that the implemented reward system includes financial rewards (such as incentives and allowances) and non-financial rewards (such as certificates, training, and job promotions). Rewards have been shown to play an important role in improving educator motivation, discipline, loyalty, and performance. However, the implementation of the reward system has not been optimal due to several obstacles, such as budget constraints, lack of transparency in assessments, and the incompatibility of the types of rewards with the needs of educators. On the other hand, madrasas that implement the reward system appropriately and fairly show an increase in the quality of educator work, marked by increased participation, work performance, and professional responsibility. This study concludes that an effective reward system is one that has clear criteria, is transparent, and responsive to the needs of educators. Recommendations are directed to madrasah principals and the Ministry of Religious Affairs to build a strong culture of appreciation and allocate an adequate reward budget to improve the quality of education in madrasahs.

Abstract

This study examines the integrity of general elections through the lens of prophetic journalism. A qualitative approach was employed to explore the perspectives and experiences of institutional administrators, community leaders, and local residents regarding electoral integrity grounded in prophetic journalism. This approach emphasizes the importance of relationships among various actors in the public policy process, including government institutions, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector. The research was conducted at the East Java Provincial General Election Commission (KPU), with data collected directly by the researcher through observation of words and actions. Data collection was carried out holistically and integratively, focusing on relevance to the study objectives. Data analysis involved systematically searching, organizing, and processing all interview transcripts while ensuring validity through careful verification procedures. The results indicate that electoral integrity can be maintained effectively through a combination of deliberative democracy and prophetic journalism. In this context, the media functions not only as an information distributor but also as a moral agent ensuring transparency, accountability, and fairness throughout the electoral process. Campaigns to validate and counter hoax news during elections are most effective when prophetic journalism is integrated with agenda-setting theory, allowing the media to shape public perception through information filtering, digital literacy education, and the delivery of objective and ethical reporting. Prophetic journalism also serves as a social control mechanism, reinforcing transparency and oversight by combining the press’s watchdog function with principles of honesty, responsibility, and wisdom, preventing electoral manipulation and safeguarding democratic integrity.

Abstract

Eclecticism in the Compilation of Islamic Law (KHI) is evident through the incorporation of various opinions from different schools of Islamic jurisprudence, including the Shafi‘i school as the dominant madhhab in Indonesia, as well as the Hanafi, Maliki, and Hanbali schools, alongside several modern approaches. This method reflects an effort to reconstruct Islamic law so that it aligns with social needs and the national legal system. This study employs a library research method. The primary sources consist of the official text of the KHI, classical fiqh works from the four major schools (Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi‘i, and Hanbali), and contemporary literature on Islamic family law in Indonesia. The analytical techniques used include document study, article content analysis, and tracing the compatibility of madhhab opinions with the norms adopted in the KHI, supplemented by a sociological approach to assess the implications of its implementation in practice. The findings indicate that the application of eclecticism in Book I of the KHI is grounded in (a) social plurality; (b) the sustainability of the national legal system; (c) the values of justice; and (d) legal adaptability. The procedural steps of madhhab-based eclecticism in the KHI involve: (a) identifying issues of Islamic law to be compiled, (b) examining textual evidences and madhhab opinions, (c) selecting the most beneficial view (maslahah), (d) harmonizing it with the national legal system, and (e) conducting academic validation and social feasibility testing.

Abstract

This article discusses the importance of implementing Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS)-based learning evaluation in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) subjects. This topic is very crucial considering that PAI in the modern era is not sufficiently delivered through conventional methods such as memorization and lectures, but must encourage students to think critically, creatively, and reflectively towards religious teachings. The method used in this writing is a library research with a qualitative descriptive approach, reviewing relevant literature related to HOTS and its implementation in PAI learning evaluation. The results of the study indicate that HOTS-based evaluation is able to develop students' abilities in analyzing, evaluating, and creating solutions to contextual problems, thus supporting the formation of adaptive and highly reasoned religious characters. The implication is that the application of HOTS-based evaluation in PAI learning contributes significantly to students' cognitive development and is very relevant in the study of developmental psychology, especially in forming balanced intellectual and emotional intelligence.
