Abstract

Landslides are one of the major hazards in areas with hilly topography and high rainfall, such as Nias Island. Landslide risk is influenced not only by physical environmental factors but also by community perceptions of potential hazards. This study aims to analyze community perceptions of landslide risk in Nias and identify the factors that influence these perceptions. The research employs a quantitative approach with data collection techniques through questionnaires and interviews involving 120 respondents selected randomly from landslide-prone areas. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive and inferential statistics to determine perception levels and relationships between variables. The results indicate that community perception is at a moderate level, with education, experience, and access to information significantly influencing perception levels. Additionally, local wisdom plays an important role in supporting disaster mitigation efforts. Therefore, it is necessary to enhance education, socialization, and community involvement in community-based mitigation programs to improve preparedness for landslide risks in Nias.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the types and structural systems of traditional residential houses in Nias and to understand their characteristics, functions, and cultural values. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation conducted in several traditional villages on Nias Island. The results show that traditional houses in Nias are generally classified into two main types, namely Omo Hada and Omo Sebua, which differ in terms of size, structural complexity, and social function. The structural system utilizes a stilt-house construction with wood as the primary material and joinery techniques without nails, providing high flexibility against dynamic loads such as earthquakes. Furthermore, the use of local materials such as hardwood and thatched leaves reflects local wisdom in sustainable construction practices. However, modernization and changes in community lifestyles have led to a decline in the number of authentic traditional houses. Therefore, preservation efforts are needed through an integrative approach that combines traditional values with modern technology to ensure the sustainability of residential architecture in Nias.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of a mobility exercise program on improving the functional movement of individuals with autism disabilities. This research used a quantitative method with a pre-experimental design through a one-group pretest–posttest approach. The research subjects consisted of four individuals with autism aged 18–25 years who participated in a training program at the Share Fit inclusive fitness center. The instrument used in this study was the Functional Movement Screen (FMS), which consists of seven movement components: deep squat, hurdle step, inline lunge, shoulder mobility, active straight leg raise, trunk stability push-up, and rotary stability. The mobility training program was conducted for 8 weeks with a frequency of three sessions per week. Data analysis techniques included the Shapiro–Wilk normality test and the paired sample t-test for hypothesis testing. The results showed an increase in scores in most FMS components after the mobility training intervention. The statistical test results indicated a significance value (p < 0.05), meaning there was a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores. Therefore, it can be concluded that mobility exercises have a significant effect on improving the functional movement of individuals with autism disabilities. This study recommends the use of mobility exercises as part of an adaptive sports training program to improve movement quality and physical fitness in individuals with disabilities.
