Abstract

Background: Hypertension is one of the diseases that contributes significantly to morbidity and mortality due to cardiovascular complications. In the Americas, the prevalence of hypertension has increased alongside modern dietary changes, including the rising consumption of ultra-processed foods (UPF) that are high in sodium, sugar, and saturated fats. Evidence on the relationship between UPF consumption and hypertension risk in the adult population of the Americas remains fragmented and varies according to study design, location, type of UPF, and follow-up duration. Objective: This study aims to analyze and synthesize scientific evidence regarding the relationship between UPF consumption and hypertension in the adult population of the Americas through cross-sectional and longitudinal cohort studies. Methods: A Systematic Literature Review was conducted in March 2026 following PRISMA guidelines. Literature searches were performed in ScienceDirect, PubMed, ProQuest, and ClinicalKey, yielding 2,552 initial articles. After deduplication, title and abstract screening, and full-text evaluation, five articles met the inclusion criteria: (1) explicitly addressing UPF consumption; (2) reporting hypertension outcomes; (3) using cross-sectional, prospective, or cohort study designs; (4) published in peer-reviewed journals; and (5) available in full-text English. Results: Thematic analysis identified five main findings: (1) high UPF consumption is associated with an increased risk of hypertension; (2) consumption of unprocessed or minimally processed foods (U/MPF) is associated with a decreased risk of hypertension; (3) sugar-sweetened beverages, processed meats, and margarine are major contributors to hypertension risk; (4) the relationship between UPF consumption and hypertension is consistent across North and South America; and (5) the effect of UPF consumption on hypertension is evident in medium- to long-term analyses. Hypertension risk increased by up to 60% in the highest UPF consumption group, whereas high U/MPF intake reduced risk by up to 28%. Conclusion: High UPF consumption is consistently associated with an increased risk of hypertension, while U/MPF consumption exerts a protective effect on blood pressure. Certain types of UPF, such as sugar-sweetened beverages, processed meats, and margarine, contribute more substantially to hypertension risk, and this relationship is consistent across populations in the Americas. Long-term dietary interventions should focus on reducing UPF intake and increasing U/MPF consumption, supported by public education and food policies that limit UPF availability to prevent hypertension among adults in the Americas.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between career adaptability and future time perspective with the work readiness of fresh graduates. This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational design and involves 193 fresh graduate respondents. The instruments used include scales of career adaptability, future time perspective, and work readiness that have been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis was performed using nonparametric tests with Spearman's Rho method. The results showed that career adaptability and future time perspective were significantly positively related to work readiness. These findings indicate that students with high career adaptability and future time perspective tend to be more prepared to enter the workforce, both in terms of technical skills and mental readiness. This study emphasizes the importance of developing these two variables in preparing students for the dynamic world of work.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of work-life balance on turnover intention, with job satisfaction serving as a mediating variable, through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. Data were synthesized from 13 scientific articles published between 2018 and 2025, sourced from the Google Scholar and ERIC databases. The results indicate that work-life balance exerts a negative influence on turnover intention. Furthermore, job satisfaction was found to mediate the relationship between work-life balance and turnover intention. Consequently, establishing a balance between professional and personal life, alongside enhancing job satisfaction, can effectively reduce employees' intention to leave an organization. These findings offer significant implications for organizational management in designing employee retention strategies by improving work-life balance and job satisfaction.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the relationship between gratitude and meaning in life with post-traumatic growth (PTG) in adolescents from broken homes. Broken home is a family condition that has the potential to cause traumatic experiences for teenagers, but it does not always result in negative psychological impacts. This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The research subjects consisted of 302 teenagers from broken homes who were selected using purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using the Post Traumatic Growth Inventory Scale, Gratitude Questionnaire (GQ-6), and Meaning in Life. They were then analyzed using multiple linear regression. The analysis results show that gratitude and meaning in life simultaneously contribute significantly to predicting PTG. Partially, gratitude and meaning in life also have a positive and significant relationship with PTG. This study concludes that PTG in adolescents from broken homes is influenced by positive psychological resources, particularly gratitude and the ability to find meaning in life, which help adolescents interpret traumatic experiences adaptively and encourage post-traumatic growth.

Abstract

Religiosity plays a significant role in shaping individuals' perspectives and behavior, particularly when faced with moral dilemmas, such as interfaith romantic relationships. This phenomenon often leads to spiritual and social conflict, where individuals are faced with the choice of maintaining love or obeying their religious teachings. This study aims to understand the meaning of religiosity among college students in interfaith relationships based on the five dimensions of religiosity according to Glock and Stark (1965): ideological, ritualistic, intellectual, experiential, and consequential. This study used a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method. The subjects consisted of three college students in interfaith relationships. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). The results show that interfaith relationships generate dynamics including self-growth and reflection, as well as self-conflict related to the conflict between love and religious teachings, the role of the partner and social support, and family pressures that influence individual decisions. Hope for the future of the relationship emerges through perceptions of the partner's flexibility. The implications of this research confirm that the meaning of religiosity is dynamic and influenced by emotional experiences, social support, and family norms. Therefore, support is needed, especially in relationship decision-making.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the influence of dancers' self-confidence on dance performance. Using a qualitative approach with phenomenological methods, this study involved in-depth interviews with four participants selected using purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) to understand the experiences and meanings given by the subjects regarding self-confidence in the context of dance. The results showed that motivation from the coach plays a significant role in increasing dancers' self-confidence, where the coach provides positive support and strategies to overcome anxiety. Furthermore, experience and thorough preparation are also proven to be key factors in building self-confidence. Dancers who have practiced well feel more prepared and able to overcome nervousness when performing. This study provides insight into the importance of self-confidence in dance performance and how coaches can contribute to the process, while emphasizing the need for acceptance of the performance results.

Abstract

This study explores the impact of gratitude on stress levels among young adults, emphasizing its relevance within Islamic psychology. Young adulthood, a period characterized by numerous challenges and pressures, is particularly susceptible to stress. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive approach, this literature review analyzed eight relevant studies. The findings consistently indicate that higher levels of gratitude correlate with lower stress levels, acting as a protective factor. For instance, research by Salim and Qurotul Uyun (2023) demonstrated a significant negative correlation between gratitude and psychological distress among final-year students. Additionally, gratitude serves as a moderator between stress and well-being, enhancing psychological resilience. Interventions such as Al-Ghazali's gratitude training effectively reduce stress in diverse populations, including healthcare workers and students. This research underscores the importance of integrating gratitude into psychological interventions to improve mental health and well-being, particularly for young adults facing academic and transitional challenges. Overall, the findings highlight gratitude not only as a positive attitude but also as a crucial protective factor that can be leveraged to mitigate stress and enhance psychological well-being.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the association between age, sex, occupation, smoking status, and body mass index (BMI) with the incidence of lumbar disc herniation (LDH) among patients with low back pain. This analytical observational study used a cross-sectional design with medical record data from 69 patients attending the Orthopedic and Traumatology Clinic at Dr. M. Djamil General Hospital, Padang, from 2020 to 2021. The results showed that 63.8% of patients were diagnosed with LDH. Smoking status (p=0.043; OR=3.21) and BMI (p=0.035; OR=3.39) were significantly associated with LDH, while age, sex, and occupation showed no significant relationship. These findings indicate that smoking and elevated BMI are important modifiable risk factors for LDH, highlighting their role in prevention strategies.

Abstract

Social media is now one of the main sources of political information, especially for Gen Z, who were raised in a digital era. This study aims to explore how social media influences the voting behavior of Gen Z. The method used is a literature review by analyzing 19 journal articles published between 2019 and 2025. The results show that social media has a strong impact on increasing Gen Z's political interest and participation, as they are more active in seeking information and engaging in online political discussions. However, social media can also have negative effects, such as the spread of misinformation and political polarization caused by algorithm-based content. In addition to social media, other factors like cultural background, education, and group identity also influence Gen Z’s voting decisions. Therefore, it is important for Gen Z to have good digital and political literacy so they can filter information wisely and participate responsibly in democratic processes.
