Abstract

This article discusses the phenomenon of pro-existence between religious communities as the key to building social harmony, particularly in Woromarto Village, Kediri Regency, which is inhabited by the NU and LDII communities. The main focus is to understand how dialogue in the village serves as a means of conflict resolution and as the foundation for creating a friendly and open society towards differences. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method by conducting in-depth interviews with the village head and community leaders. The findings show that interfaith dialogue in Woromarto Village occurs not only in theological realms but also in economic cooperation, mutual assistance, and joint activities. Additionally, the article refers to the thoughts of figures like Quraish Shihab on the importance of moderation as a critical step towards peace between civilizations. The geographical and economic conditions of Woromarto Village, which are dominated by farming livelihoods, further strengthen the dialogue between communities in daily activities. The article highlights the role of local figures, such as the village head and religious leaders, in fostering harmony and cooperation between religious communities. Patterns of interaction in daily life, especially during religious rituals, religious celebrations, and holidays, show that the people of Woromarto Village have created a cultural habitus that facilitates tolerance and harmony.

Abstract

This study examines the interpretation of the meaning of the ‘aqīqah hadith using the hermeneutic approach of Muhammad Syahrur's hudud theory. The study analyzes the understanding of hadiths about ‘aqīqah narrated in the primary hadith collections, using the theoretical framework of boundaries (naẓariyyat al-hudūd) developed by Muhammad Syahrur. Through a qualitative research method with a library approach, this study reveals that interpreting the aqiqah hadith from the perspective of Syahrur's hudud theory results in a more contextual and flexible understanding. This theory views the stipulation of aqiqah animals (two for boys and one for girls) as the maximum limit (ḥadd al-a'lā), not a rigid requirement. The timing of the aqiqah is also understood more flexibly within the minimum boundary (ḥadd al-adnā), the seventh day after birth, extending to the maximum limit adjusted to one's ability and welfare. This research contributes to a new perspective on understanding the ‘aqīqah hadith, which is more adaptive to contemporary contexts while still adhering to the principles of Sharia.

Abstract

The massively growing Salafi-Wahabi movement in Indonesia has received rejection from various elements of society, including within Muhammadiyah and traditionalist groups such as Nahdlatul Ulama (NU). Salafi-Wahabi is considered to bring a different understanding of Islam and is often not in line with local culture and Indonesian values. In the context of Muhammadiyah, resistance arose because of the infiltration of Salafi-Wahabi ideology, which was considered to weaken the decisions and direction of the Muhammadiyah movement itself. Ideological differences and approaches to preaching are the primary sources of tension between the two. Meanwhile, NU firmly rejects the purification ideology adopted by Salafi-Wahabi, because it is considered to damage the diversity of religious traditions in society. Salafi-Wahabi preaching, which tends to blame the practices of NU members, also strengthens the organisation's rejection of them. This study uses a qualitative method, namely library research. The results of the survey show that Salafi-Wahabi, as a transnational Islamic movement, needs to be watched out for because it often does not follow the moderate and tolerant character of Nusantara Islam. Resistance from Muhammadiyah and NU is a form of defence against Islamic values that are contextual and rooted in local culture.

Abstract

This study examines the phenomenon of industrial culture reflected in the trend of Javanese koplo dangdut music popularized by Mas Dho among Indonesian millennials. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were gathered through interviews with Mas Dho’s listeners and content analysis of social media platforms. Guided by the Critical Theory of the Frankfurt School and Islamic ethical perspectives, the findings reveal that the popularity of Mas Dho’s songs exemplifies cultural commodification, where music is transformed into a market-driven product within the capitalist system. This commodification fosters a false consciousness among consumers, subtly aligning their cultural tastes with industrial interests. From an Islamic viewpoint, music consumption is not merely an aesthetic act but a moral engagement that demands adherence to spiritual and ethical values. The research emphasizes critical awareness in consuming popular culture and calls for balancing artistic freedom with Islamic principles of morality, modesty, and social responsibility. In this light, the study invites a rethinking of how cultural products should foster moral consciousness rather than serve solely as instruments of capitalist commodification.

Abstract

The portrait of religious life within the pluralistic society of Kayen Kidul Subdistrict, particularly in Jambu Village, Sumberejo Hamlet, Kediri Regency, serves as the focus of this study. The community, consisting of adherents of Islam, Christianity, Catholicism, and Hinduism, coexists to foster harmonization in religious practices. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation complemented by audiovisual materials. The research subjects were determined through purposive sampling, selecting participants based on criteria from each religious group. The analysis utilizes Pierre Bourdieu’s theory of habitus as a framework to understand the phenomenon of harmonization amid the diversity of Sumberejo Hamlet. The findings reveal that social cohesion is shaped through the community’s habitus, reflected in collective participation in social activities and involvement in interfaith religious practices. Tolerance, supported by social, economic, cultural, and symbolic capital, enables the emergence of local cultural richness and diversity. This study contributes significantly to understanding how habitus shapes interfaith interactions and illustrates the mechanisms through which social cohesion and mutual respect are maintained in a pluralistic rural community, while simultaneously preserving the distinct cultural and religious identities of each group.

Abstract

The hadith narrative that women are created from ribs is often used to legitimize social constructions that place women subordinately in gender relations. In the context of the digital era, this narrative not only develops in oral tradition and printed texts but is also reproduced and contested through new media. This article aims to analyze the patterns of understanding and discourse that develop in three online Islamic websites in Indonesia -almanhaj.or.id, nu.or.id, and mubadalah.id- towards the hadith of the creation of women from a rib. This research uses a qualitative approach based on discourse analysis and integrating hadith, gender, and media studies. The results show that each site constructs the meaning of the hadith following the religious ideology adopted: almanhaj.or.id represents a textual-conservative approach with the reinforcement of women's domestic role and inferiority; nu.or.id combines a moderate literal and contextual approach; while mubadalah.id carries a progressive interpretation with a mubadalah perspective that emphasizes equality in gender relations. All three show how digital media has become essential in contesting the meaning of religious texts and forming public opinion. This study concludes that the interpretation of hadith in online media is neither theologically nor ideologically neutral but rather determines the dominant narrative that develops about women in Islam. The findings contribute to developing contemporary hadith studies, especially in digital media and gender discourse.

Abstract

In this paper, the author reveals the challenges of AI and its solutions based on the verses of the Qur'an in a descriptive-analytical manner. To build a solid theological-practical framework for the development of science and society. This qualitative research uses a literature review and approaches a thematic interpretation of the concept of artificial intelligence. The material object of this research is several related verses of the Qur'an, while the formal object is thematic AI challenges and their solutions. The results of this study show that five Qur'aniy solutions can at least answer AI challenges. Among them are: a) QS. al-Mujadilah:11 is about the claim of mastery of AI technology; b) QS. al-'Arāf: 31 relates to the use of AI not excessively; (c) QS. al Hujurat: 6 about the ethics of filtering before sharing knowledge; d) QS. Saba': 11 alludes to the limits of religion that cannot be violated in the mastery of AI; e) QS. al-Ra'd: 11 questions the guarantee of the critical position of humans in the onslaught of AI technology. From these five points, it can be concluded that the main challenge in developing AI technology is the readiness of human resources. Both users, creators, and providers must have a strong commitment to science, good morals in controlling technology, and a firm belief that humans as servants of God still play a greater role than technology itself. This further confirms that the essence of human intelligence is the most complex grace of God's creation, as a control over artificial intelligence.

Abstract

The phenomenon of fatherlessness is defined not only as physical absence but also as emotional and educational neglect by fathers. This has become a problem in modern society. This study explores how the Qur'ān, through the story of Luqman, provides insights and guidance to overcome this problem through the lens of maqāṣidī interpretation from the perspective of Abdul Mustaqim. Using the thematic interpretation method, this study attempts to analyze the related verses using content analysis. The findings reveal three main messages: first, society should not be fixated on socio-cultural stereotypes of gender roles, but should return to Qur'anic principles that are applicable across time and place (ṣāliḥ li-kulli zamān wa makān). Second, fathers are urged to adopt an open-minded approach by challenging rigid cultural norms and actively engaging in parenting and education. Third, there is a need to reconstruct fathers' mindsets regarding cause-and-effect relationships-recognizing that neglecting emotional engagement may encourage children to seek attention from the external environment. This research emphasizes the importance of strengthening the father-child bond and contributes to a theoretical framework for educational interventions rooted in Qur'anic values.
