Abstract

Ethnobotany is a branch of biology that studies the use of plants by an ethnic group in a certain area for life needs such as food, medicine, dyes, building materials, ritual ceremonies, myths, and so on. This study aims to describe the Ethnobotany of Java Acid plant (Tamarindus indica) in Pagatan Besar Village, Tanah Laut Regency. This research methods using qualitative descritives. The results of the study show an Ethnobotanical study of the Java Acid plant (Tamarindus indica) with a tree habit where the leaves are believed to be able to treat smallpox wounds and the fruit is used as a medicine for coughs and bruises (pharmacology). The Java Acid plant (Tamarindus indica) is used as a pisit at civil ceremony events (weddings) and as a condition for giving to midwives who assist in childbirth (socioanthropology). Java Acid plant (Tamarindus indica) is useful as greenery and shade (ecology). This plant is called Asam Kamal by the local community because it comes from the Banjar language, from the word Java Acid because it tastes sour and kamal which means lump or lump (linguistic) which is used as a mixture when cooking, a mixture of pickles, sour candies, and charcoal (economy).

Abstract

Textile industry wastewater treatment must be managed properly so as not to cause environmental pollution that has an impact on human health. Industrial wastewater treatment by utilizing microbial activity with the addition of zeolite with varying concentrations measured using UV-Vis Spectrophotometry. This study aims to find out the effect of variations in zeolite concentration on bacterial consortiums in reducing lead heavy metals (Pb) and find out the characteristics of bacteria reducing heavy metals Pb after added zeolite. The results of the study using UV-Vis Spectrophotometry showed that the concentration of zeolite 3% was able to reduce heavy metals Pb on the 14th day with consecutive levels of 0.473 with an initial lead content of 2,460 ppm. The most significant decrease occurred in the addition of a zeolite concentration of 3%. This is shown in its effectiveness value of 86.772%. From this study, it can be concluded that the administration of a concentration of 3% in a consortium of bacteria can lower the levels of heavy metals Pb. Based on the characteristics of bacteria in biochemical tests, namely the confectionery test (Maltose, Glucose, Sucrose) obtained positive results, negative Lactose test, red /red TSIA test, negative marker test, and positive. Basil-shaped gram-negative bacteria refer to the genus Desulfobacter.

Abstract

Based on the data from the National Waste Management Information System of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry in 2022, the waste production in Indonesia reached 54,455 tons per day. When calculated on an annual scale, Indonesia generated a total of 19.88 million tons of waste. 41.55% of this waste was composed of food scraps. One alternative to address the issue of organic waste is by processing it into eco-enzymes. Eco-enzymes are complex organic compound solutions resulting from the fermentation of organic waste, water, and sugar. The objective of this research is to produce eco-enzymes from fruit peels as a solution to organic waste management at the household level. This study is an experimental research that employs three types of substrate variations with the following formulation: water:fruit peels:sugarcane molasses = 10:3:1. The fruit peels used in creating these eco-enzymes are pineapple rinds (Ananas comosus), sweet orange rinds (Citrus sinensis), mango rinds (Mangifera indica L.), mangosteen rinds (Garcinia angostana L.), Kepok banana rinds (Musa paradisiaca Linn), rambutan rinds (Nephelium lappaceum L.), avocado rinds (Persea americana Mill), guava rinds (Psidium guajava), water apple rinds (Syzygium aqueum), cucumber rinds (Cucumis sativus), and kedondong rinds (Spondias dulcis). The research findings indicate that the fermentation process of eco-enzymes was successful. Based on the results of the organoleptic test, the characteristics of the eco-enzyme product produced in this study include a pungent and fresh aroma, and a murky brown color
