Abstract

Folklore is an important medium for preserving regional languages and transmitting cultural values to the community. However, most Lembak ethnic folklore has not been systematically documented, thus facing the potential for extinction as the number of speakers of the local language decreases. This study aims to identify the uniqueness of the language, document the folklore, and uncover the cultural values contained in Lembak ethnic folklore as a medium for local cultural literacy. This study uses a qualitative approach with vocabulary and linguistic element inventory methods, story documentation through transcription and transliteration processes, and content analysis to examine the cultural values contained in the story texts. The results show that the Lembak language has distinctive phonological, morphological, and syntactic characteristics, which are reflected in vocabulary, traditional expressions, and sentence patterns that represent the community's oral traditions. The documentation of the folklore also successfully captures local history, community cosmology, heroic values, and traditional beliefs as part of Lembak cultural identity. The content analysis reveals the existence of moral, social, religious values, and local wisdom that are relevant to strengthening character education. Thus, Lembak ethnic folklore has the potential to become an effective local cultural literacy medium to support the preservation of regional languages, strengthen cultural identity, and become a source of contextual learning in educational environments.   Cerita rakyat merupakan salah satu media penting dalam pelestarian bahasa daerah dan transmisi nilai budaya kepada masyarakat. Namun, sebagian besar cerita rakyat etnik Lembak belum terdokumentasi secara sistematis sehingga berpotensi mengalami kepunahan seiring berkurangnya penutur bahasa daerah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi kekhasan bahasa, mendokumentasikan cerita rakyat, serta mengungkap nilai-nilai budaya yang terkandung dalam cerita rakyat etnik Lembak sebagai media literasi budaya lokal. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode inventarisasi kosakata dan unsur linguistik, dokumentasi cerita melalui proses transkripsi dan transliterasi, serta analisis isi untuk mengkaji nilai budaya yang terdapat dalam teks cerita. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa bahasa Lembak memiliki karakteristik fonologis, morfologis, dan sintaktis yang khas, yang tercermin dalam kosakata, ungkapan tradisional, dan pola kalimat yang merepresentasikan tradisi tutur masyarakat. Dokumentasi cerita rakyat juga berhasil merekam sejarah lokal, kosmologi masyarakat, nilai kepahlawanan, serta kepercayaan tradisional sebagai bagian dari identitas budaya Lembak. Analisis isi mengungkap adanya nilai moral, sosial, religius, dan kearifan lokal yang relevan dengan penguatan pendidikan karakter. Dengan demikian, cerita rakyat etnik Lembak berpotensi menjadi media literasi budaya lokal yang efektif untuk mendukung pelestarian bahasa daerah, memperkuat identitas budaya, serta menjadi sumber pembelajaran kontekstual di lingkungan pendidikan.

Abstract

This study aims to explore recent Indonesian short stories written by women in their efforts to produce feminine metaphors as a form of resistance against the singular truth of masculinity. In narrating their short stories, female writers produce feminine metaphors shaped by the ecological conditions surrounding them. These feminine narratives are presented as an accentuation of women's defense against the ecological damage suffered by islands inhabited by humans. The patriarchal system combined with greedy capitalism and modernism has damaged the ecology of the islands where humans live. Through literary works, women carry out symbolic resistance by producing new metaphors as a representation of the mainstreaming of women in their involvement in creating an egalitarian relationship between humans and nature. This study uses the narrative theory approach from Helene Cixous which was then developed into feminine metaphors by Leslie Rabine. Based on an exploratory analysis of linguistic data in the short stories Mandi Mayah and Kesaksian di Titik Didih by Deasy Tirayoh, and Angin Berkabar Hujan by Dian Nangin, the results show that feminine metaphors are closely related to the ecological elements of the islands, including the sea, plantations, and agriculture. In this case, the sea, plantations, and agriculture are combined with efforts to resist patriarchy, capitalism, and modernism through the accentuation of symbolic and metaphorical language. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi cerita pendek Indonesia mutakhir yang ditulis oleh perempuan dalam upaya untuk menghasilkan metafora feminin sebagai bentuk perlawanan terhadap kebenaran tunggal maskulinitas. Dalam menarasikan cerpennya, penulis perempuan menghasilkan metafora feminin yang dibentuk dari kondisi ekologis di sekitar penulis sendiri. Narasi feminin ini disajikan sebagai penekanan pada pembelaan perempuan terhadap kerusakan ekologis yang diderita oleh pulau-pulau yang dihuni manusia. Sistem patriarki yang dikombinasikan dengan kapitalisme yang serakah dan modernisme telah merusak ekologi pulau-pulau tempat manusia tinggal. Melalui karya sastra, perempuan melakukan perlawanan simbolis dengan menghasilkan metafora baru sebagai representasi dari pengarusutamaan perempuan dalam keterlibatannya dalam menciptakan hubungan egaliter antara manusia dan alam. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan teori naratif dari Helene Cixous yang kemudian dikembangkan menjadi metafora feminin oleh Leslie Rabine. Berdasarkan analisis eksploratif data linguistik dalam cerita pendek Mandi Mayah dan Kesaksian di Titik Didih karya Deasy Tirayoh, dan Angin Berkabar Hujan karya Dian Nangin, hasil analis menunjukkan bahwa metafora feminin sangat terkait dengan unsur-unsur ekologis pulau, termasuk laut, perkebunan, dan pertanian. Dalam hal ini, laut, perkebunan, dan pertanian dikorelasikan dengan upaya untuk melawan patriarki, kapitalisme, dan modernisme melalui penekanan pada bahasa simbolis dan metaforis.

Abstract

Reading comprehension is an important skill that needs to be developed from elementary school level because it helps students understand information and interpret the meaning of texts. However, some students still experience difficulties in comprehending fictional texts during the learning process. This study aims to examine the effect of the Reciprocal Teaching model assisted by metaverse media on elementary school students' fiction reading comprehension. This study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method using a non-equivalent control group design. Participants consisted of 58 fifth-grade elementary school students divided into an experimental group (29 students) and a control group (29 students). Data were collected through pretests and posttests using a reading comprehension test instrument. Data analysis was conducted using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test to determine improvements within groups and the Mann-Whitney U Test to examine differences between groups. The results showed a significant difference in reading comprehension between the experimental and control groups (p < 0.001). In addition, the calculation of the effect size showed a strong effect (r = 0.61). These findings indicate that the Reciprocal Teaching model assisted by metaverse media is effective in improving elementary school students' fiction reading comprehension.

Abstract

Travel writing is a genre that flourishes not only in the West but also in the East. The narrators not only report the foreign areas they visit, including their languages, cultures, people, and customs, but also use travel writing as a medium to express who they are when they are in the foreign areas. This research aims to explore how Hanum Salsabiela Rais identifies herself or expresses her “selfness” when she is in Europe and America areas in her works including 99 Cahaya di Langit Eropa (2013), Bulan Terbelah di Langit Amerika (2014), Faith & City (2018), and Sangkala di Langit Andalusia (2022). This study is qualitative research. The data used include words, sentences, and dialogues relating to the narrator’s self-expression when she is in Europe and America. The data were collected through close reading and document analysis, including note-taking, while the data were analyzed using Creswell’s procedure combined with Carl Thompson’s principles in his book entitled Travel Writing: The Critical Idiom (2011). The results of the research show that Hanum can be categorized as a romantic individual and a tourist. In addition, this research found that the most prominent form of selfness is self-reflection. Hanum utilized her exploration in Europe and America to find or to reflect on herself as a Muslim.   Tulisan perjalanan menjadi genre yang tumbuh subur, tidak hanya di wilayah Barat tetapi juga wilayah Timur. Para penulis tidak hanya memberitakan wilayah asing yang dikunjungi meliputi bahasanya, budayanya, orang-orangnya, dan adat istiadat mereka. Akan tetapi, tulisan perjalanan menjadi media penulis untuk menunjukkan siapa dirinya saat berada di wilayah asing. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu mengeksplorasi bagaimana Hanum Salsabiela Rais mengidentifikasi diri atau menunjukkan ke-Diri-an saat berada di wilayah Eropa dan Amerika dalam keempat karyanya meliputi: 99 Cahaya di Langit Eropa (2013), Bulan Terbelah di Langit Amerika (2014), Fait & City (2018), dan Sangkala di Langit Andalusia (2022). Jenis penelitian dalam artikel ini yaitu kualitatif. Data dalam penelitian berupa kata, kalimat, dan dialog yang berhubungan dengan pengungkapan diri penulisnya saat berada di Eropa dan Amerika. Metode pengumpulan data berupa simak dan catat, sedangkan metode analisis data menggunakan langkah-langkah milik Creswell yang dipadukan dengan konsep Carl Thompson dalam bukunya berjudul Travel Writing: the Critical idiom (2011). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Hanum dapat dikategorikan sebagai diri romantik dan diri wisatawan. Di samping itu, temuan penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kedirian yang menonjol adalah diri refeksi atau self-reflection. Hanum memanfaatkan penjelajahan di Eropa dan Amerika untuk menemukan atau mereflesikan dirinya sebagai seorang Muslim.

Abstract

The growth of YouTube has created new spaces for the use of the Javanese language as a cultural and political practice. In this context, Javanese emerges as a form of language activism in the digital sphere. This study aims to analyze the forms of Javanese language activism in short films on YouTube. This research employs a qualitative approach. The data sources consist of 10 short films published on YouTube. Data were collected through documentation, transcription, and note-taking techniques. The data analysis follows an interactive model comprising four steps: data collection, data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing.The findings reveal 14 forms of language activism, including: (1) the use of local language, (2) translanguaging, (3) language as social criticism, (4) language as a medium for health advocacy, (5) strengthening identity and social cohesion, (6) humor, (7) delegitimization of opposing discourse, (8) ritual language, (9) historical narratives, (10) pedagogical activism, (11) language as a tool for mobilization, (12) economic language, (13) criticism of technology use, and (14) symbolic reframing. These findings indicate that social media has become a new ecology for regional language activism. Moreover, it serves as a socio-political arena that enables Javanese to function as an instrument of advocacy, resistance, and identity formation. This study contributes to the development of language activism in digital spaces and offers implications for language preservation policies.   Perkembangan YouTube membuka ruang baru bagi penggunaan bahasa Jawa sebagai praktik kultural dan politis. Dalam konteks ini, bahasa Jawa hadir sebagai bentuk aktivisme di ruang digital. Studi ini bertujuan menganalisis bentuk-bentuk aktivisme bahasa Jawa dalam film pendek di YouTube. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah 10 film pendek yang dipublikasikan di YouTube. Pengumpulan data penelitian ini dilakukan dengan metode dokumentasi, transkripsi, dan dilanjutkan teknik catat. Analisis data penelitian ini menggunakan metode interaktif yang meliputi empat langkah, yakni pengumpulan data, kondensasi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan simpulan. Hasil penelitian ini menemukan 14 bentuk aktivisme bahasa. Kelima belas bentuk aktivisme tersebut meliputi: 1) penggunaan bahasa daerah, 2) translanguaging, 3) bahasa sebagai kritik sosial, 4) bahasa sebagai medium advokasi kesehatan, 5) penguatan identitas dan kohesi sosial, 6) humor, 7) delegetimasi wacana lawan, 8) bahasa ritual, 9) narasi sejarah, 10) aktivisme pedagogis, 11) bahasa sebagai alat mobilisasi, 12) bahasa ekonomi, 13) kritik terhadap penggunaan teknologi, dan 14) reframing simbol. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa media sosial menjadi ekologi baru dalam upaya aktivisme bahasa daerah. Selain itu, menjadi arena politik-kultural yang memungkinkan bahasa Jawa sebagai instrumen advokasi, perlawanan, dan penguatan identitas. Studi ini berimplikasi dalam pengembangan aktivisme bahasa di ruang digital dan memberikan kontribusi pada kebijakan pelestarian bahasa.

Abstract

Food security is generally understood as a matter of economics, technology, and public policy. However, cultural and literary values ​​also play a significant role in building public awareness of food sustainability. Nusantara folktales feature mythological female figures who symbolize fertility, sustainability, and natural resource management, yet these meanings have not been widely studied in the context of modern Indonesian literature. This study aims to construct the meaning of mythological women as upholders of the food security system by reading modern Indonesian literary texts derived from the folklore of Dewi Sri, Dewi Sinta, and Ratu Kidul. The study used a qualitative approach with a dialectical hermeneutic method and a demythologization perspective. Data were collected in the form of words, phrases, sentences, and narratives representing mythological women in modern Indonesian poetry, prose, and drama. Analysis was conducted through heuristic reading, hermeneutic interpretation, and the construction of contextual meaning. The results show that Dewi Sri symbolizes food production and sustainability, and Dewi Sinta symbolizes moral resilience and sustainability. In contrast, Ratu Kidul and Nawang Wulan represent resource management and harmony between humans, nature, and spirituality. These findings show that modern Indonesian literature not only reproduces traditional myths but also transforms them into cultural discourses relevant to contemporary food security issues.   Ketahanan pangan umumnya dipahami sebagai persoalan ekonomi, teknologi, dan kebijakan publik, padahal nilai-nilai budaya dan sastra juga memiliki kontribusi penting dalam membangun kesadaran masyarakat mengenai keberlanjutan pangan. Berbagai cerita rakyat Nusantara menghadirkan figur perempuan mitologis yang berperan sebagai simbol kesuburan, keberlanjutan hidup, dan pengelolaan sumber daya alam, namun makna tersebut belum banyak dikaji dalam konteks sastra Indonesia modern. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengonstruksi makna perempuan mitologis sebagai penegak sistem ketahanan pangan melalui pembacaan terhadap teks sastra Indonesia modern yang bertransformasi dari folklor Dewi Sri, Dewi Sinta, dan Ratu Kidul. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode hermeneutika dialektis dan perspektif demitologisasi. Data berupa kata, frasa, kalimat, dan narasi yang merepresentasikan perempuan mitologis dalam puisi, prosa, dan drama Indonesia modern. Analisis dilakukan melalui pembacaan heuristik, interpretasi hermeneutik, dan konstruksi makna kontekstual. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Dewi Sri merepresentasikan simbol produksi dan keberlanjutan pangan, Dewi Sinta merepresentasikan ketahanan moral dan keberlanjutan hidup, sedangkan Ratu Kidul dan Nawang Wulan merepresentasikan pengelolaan sumber daya serta harmoni antara manusia, alam, dan spiritualitas. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa sastra Indonesia modern tidak hanya mereproduksi mitos tradisional, tetapi juga mentransformasikannya menjadi wacana budaya yang relevan dengan isu ketahanan pangan kontemporer.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to uncover the flora and fauna lexicons in village nomenclature in North Aceh Regency that represents ecological knowledge and cultural values of an agrarian community. This study proceeds on the basis of the premise that toponymy is more than a two-dimensional code for administration but, rather, represents a language system where the mutual human-environmental relationship has been historically recorded. The study utilized a qualitative ethnolinguistic methodology supplemented by descriptive quantitative documentation and semi-structured interviews. For data analysis, the study used the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which consists of data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. Results reveal that in the settlement’s names, flora components over dominate fauna ones by villagers reflecting agrarian interest and stable vegetation scenery. There are monomorphemic as well as polymorphemic forms and there is a prevalence of the [locational marker + natural lexicon] combination. Semantically, the flora and fauna lexis bear denotative meanings which refer to not only biological matters but also connotative meanings like fertility, protection, authority, trade as well as food security. This evidence suggests village naming in North Aceh is a patterned and functional linguistic system that functions as an ecological archive of the past, and as an index of group identity. The flora and fauna lexicons in the North Aceh village names mentioned above, can thus be seen as a document on ecology and culture important to conserve local knowledge.   Tujuan Penelitian ini adalah mengungkap leksikon flora dan fauna dalam penamaan desa di Kabupaten Aceh Utara sebagai cermin pengetahuan ekologis dan nilai budaya masyarakat agraris. Asumsi yang mendasari kajian ini bahwa toponimi bukan semata label administratif tetapi merupakan sistem linguistik yang merekam relasi historis manusia dan lingkungan. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif-etnolinguistik dengan dukungan data kuantitatif deskriptif melalui dokumentasi dan wawancara semi-terstruktur. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan model Miles dan Huberman yang meliputi kondensasi data, penyajian data, serta penarikan dan verifikasi kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menemukan bahwa unsur flora mendominasi nama desa dibandingkan dengan unsur fauna, yang mencerminkan orientasi agraris dan stabilitas lanskap vegetatif. Sekaligus secara morfologis, ditemukan pola monomorfemis dan polimorfemis dengan struktur dominan [penanda lokasi + leksikon alam]. Secara semantik, leksik flora dan fauna tidak hanya memiliki makna denotatif sebagai entitas biologis namun juga memuat makna konotatif seperti kesuburan, perlindungan, otoritas, perdagangan, dan ketahanan pangan. Temuan ini mendukung bahwa penamaan desa di Aceh Utara merupakan sistem linguistik yang terstruktur dan fungsional sebagai arsip ekologis serta identitas kolektif masyarakat. Dengan demikian, leksion flora dan fauna desa di Aceh Utara dapat dipahami sebagai dokumentasi ekologis dan kultural yang relevan dalam konteks pelestarian pengetahuan.
