Abstract

High feed costs remain a major constraint in the cultivation of Asian seabass (Lates calcarifer) in floating net cages (FNC), necessitating a more efficient feeding strategy without compromising fish growth performance. This study aims to analyze the effect of a combination of commercial feed and lemuru fish (Sardinella longiceps) on the feed efficiency and growth of Asian seabass, as well as to determine the most optimal feed combination. The research employed an experimental method utilizing a Randomized Block Design (RBD) consisting of three treatments and three replications: Treatment A (100% commercial feed), Treatment B (75% commercial feed + 25% lemuru fish), and Treatment C (50% commercial feed + 50% lemuru fish). The observed parameters included absolute length growth, absolute weight growth, specific growth rate (SGR), feed conversion ratio (FCR), survival rate (SR), and water quality. Data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) at a 95% confidence level, followed by the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test. The results indicated that the feed combinations significantly affected growth and feed efficiency (p < 0.05). Treatment B yielded the best performance with an absolute length growth of 5.07 cm, an absolute weight growth of 50.5 g, an SGR of 2.225% per day, and the lowest FCR of 1.877 g/g. The fish survival rate ranged from 90% to 93%, while water quality parameters remained within the optimal range throughout the study. Therefore, the combination of 75% commercial feed and 25% lemuru fish is the most effective formulation for improving the feed efficiency and growth of Asian seabass in the floating net cage system.

Abstract

Empowering coastal communities is an important strategy for improving the productivity and welfare of traditional fishermen. This study aims to formulate a model for empowering traditional fishermen that integrates technological modernization and institutional strengthening in North Lombok Regency. A Research and Development (R&D) approach was used, with data collected through surveys, interviews, focus group discussions, field observations, and documentation studies. The analysis was conducted descriptively for quantitative data and through data reduction techniques for qualitative data. The results show that modern technology is still rarely used, while fishermen's awareness and interest in adopting it are very high but hampered by capital constraints. On the institutional side, most fishermen are members of groups, but the functions of these organizations are not yet optimal in terms of capital, training, and collective marketing. Based on these findings, the study produced an empowerment model based on three pillars, namely technological modernization, institutional strengthening, and ecosystem support through access to capital, regulations, and multi-stakeholder partnerships. This model is expected to be a realistic and sustainable implementation framework to improve the productivity and welfare of traditional fishermen in the future.

Abstract

Port waters are coastal areas vulnerable to environmental pressure due to shipping activities, coastal settlements, and beach utilization. This study aimed to identify total coliform bacteria in the waters of Lembar Port and compare the results with the applicable seawater quality standard. The study was conducted from August to September 2025 at five sampling stations representing different activity zones, namely Lembar Port dock, Gili Mas dock, ship parking area, Cemare Beach, and a control area. Seawater samples were collected purposively at a depth of 10–20 cm and analyzed in the laboratory using the Most Probable Number (MPN) method. Temperature and pH were measured as supporting parameters, while data on ship activity and community sanitation were used as contextual information. The results showed that all sampling stations had total coliform values of <1.8 MPN/100 mL. These values were far below the seawater quality standard of 1,000 MPN/100 mL. Water temperature ranged from 29 to 30.7°C, while pH ranged from 7.71 to 8.19. Ship traffic remained active during the study period, but it was not followed by an increase in measurable total coliform. Limited interviews also indicated that households in the surrounding villages had toilets with septic tanks. Therefore, the microbiological quality of Lembar Port waters during the observation period still met the seawater quality standard for total coliform and may serve as baseline data for future port water quality monitoring.

Abstract

Pangandaran has significant capture fisheries potential; however, fresh fish is highly perishable, requiring processing to increase its value. One prominent processed product is salted jambal roti fish, which plays an important role in the coastal economy. This study aims to analyze value added, technical production performance, and economic feasibility of processing businesses in Fish Processing and Marketing Groups (Poklahsar) in Pangandaran Village. The methods used include Hayami value-added analysis, cost-benefit analysis, and technical evaluation based on GMP, SSOP, and HACCP standards. The results show that the value added generated is Rp7,937.5/kg with a ratio of 19.8%, categorized as moderate. Economically, the business is feasible, with a profit of Rp1,235,069 per production cycle, profitability of 15.44%, and a Benefit-Cost Ratio of 1.18. The payback period is 0.23 years, with a break-even point of 12.95 kg and a unit production cost of Rp67,649/kg. However, technical performance remains low, with only 47% compliance with GMP, SSOP, and HACCP standards. In conclusion, the salted fish processing business is economically viable but requires improvements in technical practices and food safety systems to ensure sustainability.

Abstract

Freshwater bawal (Colossoma macropomum) is a high-value fishery commodity, widely consumed due to its rapid growth and meat quality. However, bawal seeds sized 2-3 cm face high mortality rates, often influenced by stocking density. This study aims to determine the optimal stocking density to maximize the survival rate of these seeds. The research was conducted over 14 days (January 10–24, 2026) using an experimental method with a Completely Randomized Design (CRD), consisting of five treatments and five replications. The treatments involved different stocking densities: A (5 fish/L), B (15 fish/L), C (25 fish/L), D (35 fish/L), and E (45 fish/L). The specimens were fed commercial pellets three times daily. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA followed by an HSD (Honestly Significant Difference) test at a 5% significance level. The results indicate that stocking density significantly affects the survival rate. Treatment A (5 fish/L) yielded the highest survival rate at 98.0%. Water quality remained stable throughout the study, with temperatures at 27.5–27.9°C, dissolved oxygen at 3.8–4.0 ppm, and pH at 7.5–7.8.
