Abstract

Malang City, as one of the educational centers in East Java, faces challenges in managing organic waste, including within school environments. SMPN 15 Malang produces daily organic waste from its canteen and student activities, such as food scraps, fruit peels, and vegetables, which have not been optimally utilized. Previous studies have shown that organic waste has the potential to be used as an alternative raw material for fish feed, such as pellets derived from biogas sludge. This study aims to engineer school-based organic waste into fish pellets and to analyze their physical, mechanical, and nutritional properties. The materials were tested through a series of analyses including dimensions, expansion ratio, density (true density and single pellet density), porosity, color, Water Absorption Index (WAI), Water Solubility Index (WSI), water stability, and angle of repose. The organic waste was fermented and formulated together with protein-rich ingredients, then processed into pellets in accordance with SNI 9043-4:2025.

Abstract

Carp (Cyprinus carpio) is one of the freshwater commodities with the highest production and is widely cultivated in Indonesia. From 2010 to 2017, carp production increased by 33,954 tons. This increase in production will be accompanied by an increase in feed demand in fish farming. The high price of feed is a constraint in the cultivation process. Therefore, other alternatives are needed to reduce feed production costs, such as the utilization of agricultural waste. The agricultural waste used was corn cobs fermented using cow rumen fluid. The study was conducted with the aim of analyzing the use of fermented corn cob meal as a carbohydrate source for carp (Cyprinus carpio). The method used in the study was an experimental method using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 5 treatments with different doses and 3 replications. The treatments given consisted of P1 (control, without corn cob meal), P2 (25% TBJ substitution), P3 (50% TBJ substitution), P4 (75% TBJ substitution), and P5 (100% TBJ substitution). The results showed that the substitution of corn meal with corn cob meal had a significant effect on P5 with an absolute weight value of 3.57 g, and an absolute length of 1.30 cm. Meanwhile, the survival rate parameter of 73.3% had no significant effect between treatments. So, the use of fermented corn cob meal up to 100% can be used to increase carbohydrate utilization without reducing growth performance in carp.

Abstract

Abstract

The shrimp paste produced in Kaukau Village is widely marketed, indicating a high level of consumer acceptance. However, scientific information regarding the chemical and sensory quality profile of shrimp paste produced in Kaukau Village remains limited. This study aimed to analyze the chemical and sensory quality of shrimp paste processed using two different processing methods, namely a grinder and a traditional pounding tool. Purposive sampling was applied to collect shrimp paste samples from local producers. Sensory evaluation was conducted by 30 panelists assessing appearance, color, odor, taste, and texture. Chemical analyses included determination of moisture content, protein content, acid-insoluble ash, and salt content. The data were analyzed descriptively and presented in tables and figures. The sensory evaluation results indicated that shrimp paste produced using both processing methods exhibited good sensory quality, with appearance scores of 7.4–8.8, odor scores of 6.8–7.2, taste scores of 6.8–7.2, and texture scores of 6.8. The chemical composition of shrimp paste from both processing methods showed moisture contents of 24.53–25.05%, protein contents of 63.36–63.38%, acid-insoluble ash contents of 0.58–1.35%, and salt contents of 0.58–0.75%. In conclusion, shrimp paste processed using a grinder and a traditional pounding tool exhibited relatively similar chemical and sensory qualities, except for acid-insoluble ash content, which tended to be higher in shrimp paste processed using the traditional pounding method.

Abstract

This study analyzed the Fish Farmers’ Terms of Trade (FTT) of tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) and milkfish (Chanos chanos) polyculture farmers in Babulu Laut. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and questionnaires from nine purposively selected farmers. The average annual income from aquaculture reached IDR 1,864,014,889 per farmer. Meanwhile, the average annual aquaculture production cost was IDR 470,447,421, and household consumption expenditure was IDR 134,006,667, resulting in a total annual household expenditure of IDR 604,454,088. The calculated household FTT value was 308, indicating that farmers’ income was 3.08 times higher than their total household expenditure. In addition, the aquaculture business FTT reached 396, showing strong profitability at the production level. These findings demonstrate solid economic performance and favorable household welfare among polyculture farmers. The diversification of commodities, supported by high market prices of tiger shrimp and stable milkfish production, contributes to income stability and strengthens the role of coastal aquaculture as the primary economic support for farming households. Further development through post-harvest value addition is recommended to enhance income sustainability.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effect of feeding methods on growth performance, feed efficiency, and survival rate of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). Two feeding methods were compared: broadcast feeding and central point feeding. The experiment was conducted for seven weeks, and the observed parameters included absolute length growth, absolute weight growth, Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR), Survival Rate (SR), and water quality parameters (temperature, pH, salinity, EC, and TDS). Data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative methods. The results showed that the broadcast method produced more stable length and weight growth with FCR values ranging from 0.93 to 1.93. The central point method showed more fluctuating growth patterns, with lower FCR values in the early weeks (0.18–0.35) but higher variation in certain periods. Both methods resulted in a 100% survival rate. Water quality parameters in both treatments were within optimal and similar ranges, indicating that differences in production performance were mainly influenced by feed distribution strategy rather than environmental factors. Overall, the broadcast method supported more uniform growth, while the central point method potentially improved feed efficiency under certain conditions

Abstract

Fish-processing MSMEs in Bengkulu City face increasing pressure to adapt to digital transactions within business payment systems characterized by high transaction intensity and rapid product turnover. This study aims to analyze the level of financial literacy and accessibility and to examine their effects on the decision to use digital transactions. A quantitative approach was employed through a survey of 100 fish-processing MSME actors in Bengkulu City. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics and Structural Equation Modeling based on Partial Least Squares. The results show that financial literacy is in the moderately high category with an average TCR score of 60.25 percent, while accessibility is also in the moderately high category with an average score of 66.26 percent. The financial management skills indicator recorded the lowest score among all indicators, indicating a gap between financial understanding and the practical implementation of financial administration. Structural analysis reveals that financial literacy has a positive and significant effect on the decision to use digital transactions, with a path coefficient of 0.526 and a t-value of 9.030, while accessibility also has a positive and significant effect with a path coefficient of 0.433 and a t-value of 6.990. Financial literacy is proven to have a more dominant influence than accessibility, indicating that readiness in financial understanding and financial management capability is the primary driver of digital transaction adoption among fish-processing MSMEs in Bengkulu City. The study implies the importance of strengthening practice-based financial literacy and providing simple digital payment systems that align with the characteristics of MSME businesses.
