Abstract

The productivity of peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) is greatly influenced by the quality of the soil in which it is cultivated. Poor soil structure and low organic matter content are among the main limiting factors for optimal peanut growth. One potential solution is the use of rice husk charcoal (biochar) as a soil amendment. Rice husk charcoal has been shown to improve the physical and chemical properties of soil, such as enhancing porosity, cation exchange capacity (CEC), and soil pH. This study is based on a literature review of various scientific sources discussing the application of rice husk charcoal in crop cultivation, particularly legumes such as peanuts. The review indicates that rice husk charcoal can increase nutrient availability, improve soil aeration and water retention, and support root development and pod formation. Several studies also report yield increases of up to 20–30% in peanuts when appropriate doses of rice husk charcoal are applied. Therefore, rice husk charcoal can be recommended as an environmentally friendly soil amendment for sustainable peanut farming systems.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the use of organic farming technology in the cultivation of environmentally friendly food crops. The research method is based on a review of previous studies, using a literature study approach. The data collected came from literature sources, through the process of reading, recording, and managing research materials. The data sources were taken from existing journals or articles and books related to agriculture. The observations focused on plant growth and soil conditions during the planting period, as well as assessing the extent to which organic technology was successfully applied in various regions in Indonesia. The results showed that organic farming provides positive benefits to soil health, such as increasing organic matter content, increasing microbial activity, and improving soil structure. In addition, this agricultural system also has a high economic value because its products can be sold at higher prices, both in domestic and foreign markets. Socially, the implementation of organic farming encourages people to participate in activities such as composting and natural pest management training. Thus, organic farming not only helps keep the environment sustainable, but also strengthens the economic and social resilience of farmers in a sustainable manner.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effect of the draining technique using a spinner on the quality of the Teriyummy product, a coin-shaped anchovy rempeyek. The draining technique plays a crucial role in determining the sensory quality, moisture content, and ash content of processed food products. This research employed two draining methods: manual and spinner-based, with three different draining durations (9, 12, and 15 minutes). The parameters tested included sensory attributes (appearance, aroma, taste, and texture), moisture content, and ash content. Sensory evaluation showed that all treatments met the SNI 2346:2015 quality standards, except for texture. The spinner method performed better in taste and texture, while the manual method excelled in appearance and aroma. Moisture content tests revealed a significant difference, with the lowest moisture value observed in the 12-minute spinner treatment (0.016%), indicating efficient moisture reduction. Ash content tests showed no significant differences between treatments; however, the spinner method provided more consistent and hygienic results. ANOVA analysis confirmed that the spinner method had a statistically significant effect on moisture content but not on ash content. Thus, the spinner draining technique is more effective in improving the overall quality of Teriyummy products.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the microbiological quality and nutritional content of snakehead fish crackers (Channa striata) produced by UD Bunda Foods. The parameters analyzed include Total Plate Count (TPC) as an indicator of microbiological safety, and protein content as a measure of nutritional value. Laboratory testing was conducted using the Standard Plate Count method (for TPC) and the Kjeldahl method (for protein content), with results compared to the standards set by SNI 8272:2016. The findings showed that the TPC values ranged from 3.7 × 10³ to 3.9 × 10³ CFU/g, which is well below the maximum allowable limit of 1.0 × 10⁴ CFU/g. Protein content ranged from 6.91% to 6.96%, exceeding the minimum requirement of 5%. These results confirm that the fish crackers are microbiologically safe, nutritionally valuable, and comply with national food quality standards. The study highlights the importance of hygienic production practices and the use of high-quality raw materials in ensuring product safety and competitiveness, particularly in the small and medium fish-processing enterprises (SMEs) sector.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the relationship between soil hydraulic conductivity and irrigation management in dryland areas. Soil hydraulic conductivity, which is a measure of the soil’s ability to transmit water, was measured at several locations with varying soil types. The results showed that sandy soils have higher hydraulic conductivity (an average of 1.2 cm/hour) compared to clay soils (0.15 cm/hour). In addition, a survey of 100 farmers indicated that more efficient irrigation practices were applied by those who understood their soil characteristics. Regression analysis showed that 67% of the variation in irrigation management efficiency can be explained by soil hydraulic conductivity. These findings highlight the importance of understanding hydraulic conductivity to improve irrigation management practices and agricultural productivity in dryland areas.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of vegetative ground cover in reducing erosion rates and increasing water infiltration on sloped lands. The method employed was a field experiment with three treatments: bare land without cover, land planted with vetiver grass, and land planted with leguminous cover crops. The results indicate that vegetative ground cover significantly reduced erosion rates by up to 65% and increased water infiltration rates to more than twice that of bare land. Vetiver grass was found to be more effective than legumes in strengthening soil structure and improving soil physical properties. These findings highlight the importance of utilizing vegetative ground cover as a conservation strategy to maintain soil productivity and preserve water resources. The implementation of vegetative cover is highly recommended for sustainable land management, especially in erosion-prone areas.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of different protein levels in feed on the growth performance of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). The experiment was conducted at the Fish Hatchery Center (BBI) of Sleman Regency for 45 days using a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of three protein levels—25%, 30%, and 35%—each with three replications. Observed parameters included weight gain, specific growth rate (SGR), feed conversion ratio (FCR), and survival rate (SR). The results showed that different protein levels significantly affected the growth of Nile tilapia (p < 0.05). The feed containing 30% protein produced the highest specific growth rate and the lowest FCR value. It can be concluded that a protein level of 30% in feed is optimal for promoting growth and feed efficiency in Nile tilapia.
