Abstract

The background of this research is based on the fact that social media often serves as a space for the dissemination of extreme religious narratives, which has the potential to create misunderstandings of aqidah among Generation Z. The main research question is how social media and aqidah are understood from the perspective of students in the formation of aqidah comprehension. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method involving 2021 cohort students of the Faculty of Ushuluddin and Islamic Studies at UIN North Sumatra who actively use social media. The findings indicate that platforms such as TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram have become effective tools to enhance the understanding of aqidah, connect religious concepts with contemporary issues, and inspire the application of spiritual values in daily life through content delivered by religious figures such as Ustadz Adi Hidayat, Prof. Syahrin Harahap, Ustadz Hanan Attaki, and Ustadz Felix Siau. Nevertheless, a critical attitude is required in filtering information due to the potential presence of distorted content, oversimplification, and provocative narratives.

Abstract

This study focuses on Muhammad Abduh’s thought on taqlid. The aim of the research is to examine and analyze the concept of taqlid as understood and criticized by Muhammad Abduh. The research problem addressed is: How is the concept of taqlid understood and critiqued within the framework of Muhammad Abduh’s rationalism? This study employs a qualitative library research method, which involves collecting data, information, and various sources available in the literature. The background of this research lies in the notion of taqlid, which refers to following the opinions of scholars without understanding the underlying evidence or arguments a subject of long-standing debate. On the one hand, taqlid is seen as a means to preserve the continuity of Islamic legal tradition (fiqh). On the other hand, it has been criticized for hindering intellectual progress and the exercise of ijtihad. The findings of this study reveal that Abduh’s criticism of taqlid was not aimed at abolishing the authority of scholars altogether. Rather, it sought to ensure that scholarly authority is grounded in scientific competence and contextual understanding. Accordingly, the key points of Muhammad Abduh’s critique include: excessive veneration of teachers, the proliferation of legal texts, the weakening of the Islamic state (daulah Islamiyah), the political authority of the sultan, the finality ascribed to mujtahid positions, the lack of attention to scientific knowledge, and the emergence of multiple legal schools (madhhab).

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of the Majelis Sholawat Al-Banjari (MSB) within the Banjar community in Serdang Bedagai. MSB has become an essential part of Banjar identity, which is widely recognized as a community deeply devoted to shalawat, influenced by the teachings of Tuan Guru Syaikh Zaini bin Abdul Ghani (Abah Guru Sekumpul). This research employs a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach, involving participatory observation and the researcher’s direct engagement in MSB activities. The findings reveal that the etno-religious identity of the Banjar people in Serdang Bedagai has long been shaped by the tradition of Aruh Maulud, practiced well before the establishment of MSB. The presence of MSB has further reinforced this identity through the recitation of Maulid Simtudduror. Beyond serving as a medium for preserving religious traditions, MSB also functions as a space that strengthens the ties of Banjar migrants and acts as a “reminder” of their ancestral homeland in Kalimantan. This etno-religious identity becomes even more deeply embedded through the practice of shalawat inherited from Abah Guru Sekumpul, making shalawat not only a form of spiritual expression but also a symbol of the Banjar people’s collective identity in Serdang Bedagai.

Abstract

This article discusses the practice of hibah (voluntary giving) in interfaith social donations carried out by students of Islamic Economic Law (HES) as part of a community service program. The main focus lies in how the concept of hibah in fiqh muamalah can be applied within the context of multicultural social life, particularly in Indonesia, which is known for its religious diversity. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method with a field study approach, in which students directly participated in interfaith donation activities at the community level. The findings reveal that hibah, as a form of voluntary giving, can serve as a medium of da‘wah bil hal (preaching through action) while simultaneously strengthening social relations among people of different faiths. The article further emphasizes that fiqh muamalah is not only relevant in the field of economic transactions but also plays a significant role in fostering social harmony through the instrument of hibah.

Abstract

Abstract

The development of digital technology has had a significant impact on children’s cognitive development. This study aims to analyze the knowledge, attitudes, and effects of gadget use on early childhood development in Paranbatu Village, as well as to formulate effective socialization strategies for the community. The research employed a qualitative descriptive approach through interviews, observations, and documentation involving parents, early childhood education (PAUD) teachers, and community leaders. The findings show that most parents have insufficient digital literacy; 60% use gadgets primarily for entertainment, 30% as learning tools, and 10% do not understand how to control content or manage children’s screen time. The positive impacts of gadget use include improved cognitive skills and creativity, while the negative effects involve reduced social interaction, the emergence of aggressive behavior, and decreased physical activity. These findings reinforce the importance of parental supervision supported by educational, religious, and community-based approaches to foster digital awareness and guide children in using technology wisely.

Abstract

The family plays a crucial role in shaping relationships among its members. This study aims to describe the process and outcomes of a socialization program on Islamic communication in Paranbatu Village as an effort to strengthen family resilience through the Kampung Keluarga Berkualitas (Quality Family Village) program. The research employed a descriptive-participatory qualitative method involving 30 participating families, including parents, adolescents, and village cadres. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman. The findings indicate an increase in participants’ understanding of open, empathetic, and respectful communication among family members. The socialization activities were conducted through programs involving micro-modules, role-play, family huddles, and family digital literacy. The results suggest that families are expected to develop communication skills and strengthen household harmony. This program is considered replicable and has the potential to be implemented in other villages to support the realization of quality, harmonious, and empowered families within the framework of national development.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the phenomenon of bullying in rural elementary schools and to develop prevention strategies through a participatory approach in Paranbatu Village. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method, utilizing interviews, observations, and documentation involving teachers, students, and parents. The findings indicate that bullying cases in rural elementary schools still frequently occur in the form of teasing, exclusion, and minor physical violence, which are often perceived as normal by the community. The lack of awareness and limited teacher training are identified as the main factors behind the ineffective handling of such cases. Through socialization activities involving teachers, students, and parents, there has been a noticeable improvement in understanding, concern, and collaboration in preventing and addressing bullying. This participatory approach has proven effective in creating a safe and conducive learning environment while strengthening the relationship between schools and families in fostering an anti-bullying culture within rural communities.
