Abstract

The diversity of cultures, religions, and ethnicities in Indonesia is a valuable asset but often becomes a source of conflict, especially in elementary school environments. Multicultural education is an essential approach to addressing discrimination and intolerance among students by instilling values of respect for diversity from an early age. This study aims to analyze the role of multicultural education in mitigating discrimination and intolerance through structured implementation in elementary school settings. The research method used is qualitative with a case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and document analysis from three elementary schools with diverse student backgrounds. The results of the study indicate that systematically designed multicultural education can enhance students' understanding of diversity, reduce negative stereotypes, and build stronger tolerance among students. This research contributes to the development of multicultural-based curricula and teacher training to create inclusive learning environments.

The current challenges of character building include moral and ethical crises due to technological advances, as well as gaps in values and labor market needs. The transformation of character education is important in realizing Indonesia's vision towards the Golden Generation 2045. For data collection, this study involved a digital literacy test consisting of a pre-test and post-test, along with observations and questionnaires that explored students' perceptions regarding their experiences. The results of the analysis showed a significant increase in digital literacy scores for the experimental group compared to the control group. The average score on the post-test of the experimental group was recorded at 82.5, while the control group only had an average score of 72.3. Through the t-test, a significant difference was found (p 0.05), indicating that the learning method with interactive games was proven to be more effective in improving students' digital literacy.
