Abstract

The State Islamic University of Sunan Ampel Surabaya (UINSA), previously known as the State Institute of Islamic Studies (IAIN) Sunan Ampel, has undergone significant changes since its establishment in 1965, culminating in its transformation into UINSA in 2013. UINSA introduced the "twin towers" concept as a multidisciplinary scholarly development model integrating religious sciences with social sciences and natural sciences. This study employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach to describe the social dynamics before and after the establishment of the twin towers at UINSA. Data were obtained through literature studies and interviews with academic staff and administrative personnel. The research was conducted around the Twin Towers on March 19, 2024. The findings indicate that the construction of the Twin Towers has triggered significant social changes in several aspects: technology and infrastructure, economy and commercial activities, culture and social interactions, as well as politics and policy. Additionally, the community identity around the Twin Towers has undergone transformation, including changes in collective identity, socialization processes, and the influence of external and internal factors. Conflict theory, symbolic interactionism, structuration theory, and social change theory were used to analyze these dynamics. These changes have created a more modern and globally connected environment, but also bring challenges in resource management and social integration.

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the implementation of asynchronous learning conducted by the Tadris IPS study program at IAI Al-Fatimah Bojonegoro. Asynchronous learning refers to virtual (online) face-to-face learning facilitated through the internet. It is also commonly referred to as online learning. The evaluation of asynchronous learning was carried out using the CIPP (Context, Input, Process, Product) model. This evaluation research employed a simple experimental method by distributing questionnaires to lecturers and students of Tadris IPS, who have been using asynchronous learning for the past two semesters. The research data were collected through a questionnaire completed by 30% of the 37 students enrolled in the Tadris IPS study program. The evaluation focused on the level of agreement or disagreement among students, as beneficiaries of asynchronous learning, regarding the content, the presentation of materials, the adequacy of resources in supporting the quality of asynchronous learning, and the achievement of learning objectives. The results indicate that asynchronous learning is sufficiently effective and can be continued for future academic sessions. It was also proven that students are able to comprehend the materials presented, meaning that learning objectives were achieved. However, several shortcomings were identified, including the limited use of visual content such as images, videos, and audio, which could enhance learning references. Furthermore, there is a need for policies to support the provision of paid applications to improve the resources available for asynchronous learning

Abstract

This research aims to find out and analyze (1) the extent to which gen-z teenagers are overshadowed by the social phenomenon of drug abuse in their social environment; (2) education about the dangers of drugs for the lives of gen-z teenagers; and (3) supporting the drug-free gen-z campaign for Golden Indonesia 2045. This research uses a qualitative method, located in West Surabaya, and analyzes the dramaturgy theory by Erving Goffman. The results showed that Gen-Z adolescents are in the shadow of drugs, as seen from the process of introduction to drugs divided into two groups in their daily lives, namely the user group and the non-user group. To play themselves in the social environment, the five informants in this study practiced things according to the dramaturgy theory of front stage and backstage. The behavior shown by the five informants during the front stage is to maintain the best possible attitude so as not to be seen as a drug user by showing, manipulating, and regulating behavior in such a way as to blend in and look like a normal teenager so that their existence can be accepted by their social environment. On backstage, the five informants in this study show a freer personality; their original character is seen; they do not play a role; they even have a very different side when they are on the front stage, namely being more joking, socially active, and becoming a person who is easily provoked by emotions. It is hoped that through this paper, Gen-Z youth will be more careful in choosing friendships and social environments and be good at filtering all available information as an impact of globalization
