Abstract

The low ability to understand mathematical concepts among SMPN 4 Magelang students is caused by the model and media used in learning. The purpose of this study is to analyze student learning completeness and determine which learning model is better between the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) model assisted by Q-Cardsox media and the direct learning model based on students' mathematical concept comprehension abilities. This research is a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental type of research and uses a post-test only control group design. Samples were taken using the cluster random sampling technique, resulting in VII C as the experimental class and VII F as the control class, each consisting of 30 students. The research results show that the students' ability to understand mathematical concepts taught using the direct learning model did not achieve classical completeness. Meanwhile, those taught using the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) model assisted by Q-Cardsox achieved classical completeness. The ability to understand mathematical concepts of students taught with the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) model assisted by Q-Cardsox is better than the ability to understand concepts of students taught with the direct learning model.

Abstract

The ability to translate among mathematical representations is one of the 21st-century skills that students need to have. This ability is often challenging for students, especially in translating verbal to symbolic or visual forms. One of the materials that requires translation skills is argument validity analysis. This study aims to explore the mathematical translation process of students use in completing argument validity analysis. This study is a qualitative study with an exploratory approach. The subjects of the study were 3 Mathematics Education students who were selected through purposive sampling and analyzed in depth using Polya's problem-solving stages and Bosse's translation process. The results showed that the problem-solving process went hand in hand with mathematical translation activities. Subjects who carried out the mathematical translation process correctly and completely tended to solve problems better. Subjects made several mistakes in the translation process, including misinterpretation and implementation errors that resulted in inaccurate argument validity analysis. These findings indicate that mathematical translation skills are an important basis for solving argument validity analysis problems. Therefore, learning strategies that support the improvement of mathematical translation skills need to be developed to strengthen students' critical thinking skills in analyzing the validity of arguments at the higher education level.

Abstract

Mathematics is a fundamental compulsory subject in various fields of life and technology. However, many students consider mathematics difficult and boring, so many students have difficulty learning. This study aims to overcome the gap in mathematical understanding of class VII C students of SMP Negeri 1 Balung through the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) approach and the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model. The method used is Classroom Action Research (PTK) with two cycles. Each cycle involves the planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. This study was conducted on 31 students with statistical data presentation material. The results showed an increase in the average value from 79.4 in cycle I to 82.7 in cycle II. The increase in the lowest value from 54 to 67 indicated a reduction in the gap in understanding. In addition, the number of students who achieved completeness increased by 12.5%. The TaRL approach combined with PBL is effective in improving learning outcomes and reducing the gap in student abilities. However, this approach requires more preparation by teachers, including grouping students and creating learning materials that are appropriate to the level of student ability. TaRL can also be used to increase student interest, motivation, and learning activity.

Abstract

The research was conducted to improve mathematical literacy skills in the content of the growth phenomenon in class VIII C MTs Miftahul Huda through the development of learning videos based on the collaborative metacognition learning model assisted by CapCut. The research method used is the Research and Development Plomp model through three phases, namely preliminary analysis, prototyping, and assessment. Preliminary analysis produces the need for packaging mathematics learning that can invite students to understand mathematics material easily and solve contextual problems appropriately, so that students' mathematical literacy skills can be improved. Prototyping is carried out by designing a learning video that contains a video opening, problem presentation, problem solving, mathematical concept discovery, and video closing. The assessment was carried out by means of feasibility tests, practicality tests, and learning video effectiveness tests. The results of the video feasibility test from media experts were 0.97 and material experts were 0.97 which stated that they were very valid (feasible). Students rated the videos as very easy to use, useful, engaging, and encouraged metacognitive (practical) activities. Students' mathematical literacy increased in the medium category after using learning videos based on the collaborative metacognition learning model. Students need to get used to building mathematical concepts through contextual problem-solving even though their application takes a relatively long time. On this basis, advanced researchers need to consider the advantages of online learning that provide students with learning flexibility in building their mathematical understanding.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the results of observations that indicate that the critical thinking skills of students at SMAN 2 Yogyakarta still need to be improved. This is seen during learning practices, where they are still fixated on the formulas they have memorized to solve problems, so that not many students can provide further explanations about solving the problem. On the other hand, the pretest results also show that the average value of students' critical thinking skills is still very low, namely 30.76% with 1 student having high critical thinking skills and 33 others still classified as low and very low. Therefore, this Classroom Action Research (CAR) is a study that aims to improve critical skills in high school mathematics through discovery learning assisted by LKPD. This research was conducted in two cycles, each cycle consisting of four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The results of the study show an increase in critical thinking skills from cycle I to cycle II. In cycle I, the average percentage of students' critical thinking skills reached 73.64% (medium category), while in cycle II, it increased to 80.72% (high category). Thus, this classroom action research succeeded in achieving the expected goal, namely, improving critical thinking skills in secondary school mathematics through the application of the Discovery Learning model assisted by LKPD

Abstract

The 21st century demands that education implement student-centered learning, involve technology, and present learning that stimulates 4C abilities (critical thinking, creative thinking, collaboration, and communication). However, mathematics learning in formal education has not been able to meet the existing demands. Many the mathematics learning in formal education has not honed students' 4C abilities. As a solution, researchers took the initiative to develop MATHMART learning media that contain the material of the Two-Variable Linear Equation System (SPLDV) for grade VIII SMP/MTs students. Unlike other learning media, MATHMART has integrated the STEM approach and the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model in its development. The type of research is Research and Development with the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). The results of this study are an average percentage of validation at the development stage by media experts of 80.5% and material experts of 86%, both of which are categorized as very valid with slight revisions. After the revision, a practicality test was conducted on 22 students at Mifathussa'adah Middle School in Kudus, and an average percentage of the practicality questionnaire was 85%, with a convenient category. MATHMART learning media helps students better understand SPLDV material and develop students' 4C abilities. Thus, MATHMART learning media can be used to help educators and students in achieving the demands of the 21st century.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effects of self-regulated learning and learning motivation on mathematics learning outcomes among students residing in boarding schools and at home. The study used a quantitative approach with a survey method. The sample consisted of 90 students of Madrasah Aliyah in Yogyakarta, which was taken using a purposive sampling technique, with 45 students living in boarding schools and 45 students living at home. The research instruments included questionnaires to measure self-regulated learning and learning motivation, as well as midterm assessment test results to evaluate mathematics learning outcomes. The data were analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results showed that self-regulated learning and learning motivation had an influence of 7.9% on the learning outcomes of students living in boarding schools and 8.5% on students living at home. Learners at home exhibited a stronger positive relationship between learning motivation and learning outcomes compared to learners in boarding schools. Learning motivation, especially intrinsic ones, is an important factor in supporting learners' learning outcomes at home, while the structured environment in boarding schools tends to make other factors, such as teaching methods and facilities, more dominant.
