Abstract

This study aims to describe the conceptual understanding of two-dimensional shapes in students with special needs based on Pirie Kieren's theory in terms of learning motivation. This research is a case study with the research subject is 1 students with special needs of class IV at SDN Pademawu Timur V The results of this study are low learning motivation with layers of understanding on the square starting from Image making then head to property noticing to ineffective folding back to image making and do ineffective folding back again to primitive knowing. In solving the square problem, the subject doubled back to ineffective image-making and primitive knowing. Meanwhile, in the rectangular problem, the subject does one folding back to image making. There are similarities in solving square and rectangular problems, for example, the subject describes the two-dimensional shape first before image making and folding back because they don't know how to calculate the area of a square and rectangle. From the similarities and differences in the thinking flow of students with special needs in squares and rectangles, educators are expected to be able to pay attention to their understanding abilities and learning motivation before carrying out learning.

Abstract

Numeracy is a person's ability to implement mathematics in the home, work and community environments. This research aims to measure the practicality and effectiveness of using E-LKPD in a socio-cultural context assisted by GeoGebra workbooks in improving students' numeracy skills in pyramid material. The type of research used was a quasi-experiment (Quasi-experiment) with research subjects 21 class VIII students at SMPN 1 Kalisat Jember. The practicality of E-LKPD is assessed from the results of student response questionnaires, while the effectiveness of E-LKPD is assessed from the results of students' numeracy ability tests. The use of E-LKPD is said to be practical if the average percentage of students' questionnaire responses is at least in the practical category, and effective if students' numeracy skills are at least in the medium category. Based on the practicality analysis, the results of the student response questionnaire regarding the use of E-LKPD obtained a percentage of 81.67% or were in the practical category. In addition, the use of E-LKPD shows an increase in students' numeracy skills on all numeracy indicators. This can be seen based on the results of the numeracy ability test which obtained an N-Gain score of 0.51 or at a medium effectiveness level. Therefore, the use of E-LKPD in a socio-cultural context with the help of GeoGebra workbooks is practical and effective for improving students' numeracy skills, especially in learning surface area and volume of pyramids.

Abstract

Good classroom management is very necessary for teachers to achieve learning objectives. However, previous research states that classroom management in the implementation of mathematics learning on rational inequality material is still less than optimal. This is caused by the lack of the teacher's ability to manage the class. As a result, students are less interested in participating in learning activities. Therefore, this study aims to describe the teaching profile of mathematics teachers on classroom management skills on rational inequality material based on the Teaching and Learning Activity Plan (RKBM). This research uses descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The participants of this study were a mathematics teacher of MAN 2 Malang City and 36 students of S1 IPS-1 (Grade 10). Data collection techniques were observation, interview, and documentation. Data analysis techniques were carried out in several stages, namely data collection, data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that RKBM-based mathematics teacher teaching could support good classroom management including, the majority of students being enthusiastic in participating in learning activities and students orderly carrying out the instructions given by the teacher. The results of this study can be used as a reference for teachers to design creative and interactive learning activities

Abstract

Geometric transformation material requires the role of imagination to link theoretical concepts with real examples. The PBL model can be a means for students to be more active in solving geometric problems, but abstract geometric concepts need to be combined with surrounding objects. One of the surrounding objects that has the concept of geometric transformation is the Jombangan batik cloth. The aim of this research is to determine the effectiveness of problem-based learning assisted by Jombangan batik ethnomathematics cards in increasing junior high school students' learning motivation on geometric transformation material. This research uses a quantitative approach type one-group pretest-posttest design. The research subjects were 32 students in class 7A of Al-Furqon Middle School. Researchers used Jombangan batik ethnomathematics card media as a medium for PBL learning on geometric transformation material. Furthermore, the research instruments used were pretest and posttest learning motivation questionnaires and learning outcomes tests. The data analysis technique used is the paired sample t-test from the results of the learning motivation questionnaire and is supported by learning outcome test scores. Based on the results of the hypothesis test, a significance value of 0.001 (0.001 < 0.05) was obtained, so it can be concluded that PBL learning assisted by Jombangan batik ethnomathematics cards is effective in increasing students' learning motivation on geometric transformation material. The results of the hypothesis test are supported by the results of student learning tests where 90% of students obtained a score above 75.

Abstract

Using manipulative media can help children who are having trouble learning mathematics. In addition to simplifying the learning process, this manipulative media helps pupils develop their capacity for original thought. Creative thinking abilities are crucial because it inspire students to try different approaches to addressing problems, promotes creativity, and raises their level of involvement in class activities. Despite the significance of creative thinking abilities, prior studies have shown that Indonesian students still need to improve their levels of these capabilities, particularly regarding integer operations. Thus, to fill this gap, this research developed Media Tangkas Operasi Bilangan Bulat (METABUL). This media used the ADDIE paradigm in research and development (R&D) to stimulate students' capacity for creative thinking. Interview guidelines, learning media validation questionnaires, and teacher and student response questionnaires are the data collection instruments used in this research. The research participants were six class VII junior high school students in Malang City with three validators (one practitioner and two experts). Research findings show that developing METABUL manipulative media has a high level of validity of 93.17% and a good response from teachers at 86% and students at 87.41%.

Abstract

This research aims to uncover layers of students' mathematical understanding and provide scaffolding to achieve all layers of Pirie-Kieren's mathematical understanding. This study is qualitative research with a multiple case study design. The research subjects are categorized into three types: (1) S1A and S1B are students who write structured problem-solving steps and their answers are correct, (2) S2A and S2B are students who write structured problem-solving steps but make mistakes in some steps resulting incorrect answers, and (3) S3A and S3B are students who write unstructured problem-solving steps but their answers are correct. Two subjects are chosen from each category to generate saturated data. The results of this research indicate that (1) S1A and S1B experience folding back to the inner layers, then systematically reach all layers of mathematical understanding after scaffolding, (2) S2A and S2B reach certain outer layers of mathematical understanding after scaffolding, (3) S3A and S3B reach certain inner layers of mathematical understanding after scaffolding. This research found that each subject reaches all layers of Pirie-Kieren's mathematical understanding after scaffolding through three methods: (1) providing prompting questions, (2) providing problem-solving examples, and (3) providing constructive feedback on subject answers. The teacher’s understanding of students' Pirie-Kieren mathematical understanding layers can be used to improve learning.

Abstract

Measuring student discipline is crucial because it helps create an orderly and conducive learning environment and teaches responsibility and self-control. This study aims to develop an effective non-test instrument for measuring student discipline using Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and the Partial Credit Model (PCM) from Item Response Theory (IRT). The instrument was analyzed using EFA, which successfully identified five main factors corresponding to aspects of discipline: self-control, compliance (adherence to rules), concentration ability, strong determination, and responsibility. IRT analysis with the PCM model revealed that the items in the instrument had varying levels of difficulty and discrimination, with nine out of 15 items showing good discriminatory power. This instrument can provide accurate and reliable measurements of student discipline, assisting educators in identifying areas needing improvement and designing appropriate interventions to support character development. This study demonstrates that combining EFA and IRT PCM can produce a valid, reliable instrument with good discriminatory power.
