Abstract

The philosophy of mathematics, with its many contradictions and paradoxes regarding systematic truths, contributes to the creation of a systematic and absolute foundation of mathematical knowledge, with the aim of preserving that foundation. This research aims to answer the question of what efforts are needed to overcome the crisis, contradictions and paradoxes in mathematics, as well as introduce the philosophical foundations of mathematics that are currently often used in the teaching and development of mathematics. The research method used is descriptive research using Systematic Literature Review (SLR). In particular, the emergence of formalism in mathematics education is also a reaction to formalism's attempt to impose the thinking of mathematicians on all humanity, thus forcing mathematics to be presented deductively. Therefore, as a suggestion, mathematics education should pay more attention to the diversity of abilities and potential of individual learners, realize that learners are not as smart as teachers, and that undergraduate and graduate students are not as smart as teachers.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the obstacles faced by students learning from during the Covid-19 pandemic. The method used was descriptive qualitative approach, conducted at SMA 5 Palembang City involving 26 students as participants. This study used a questionnaire as a data collection tool, which was distributed to students online via WhatsApp using Google Form. The results showed that the main obstacles faced by students were related to the availability of facilities and inadequate internet connection. Some students do not have adequate access to support online learning, coupled with poor internet network quality, hindering their participation in online learning that requires a stable internet connection. In addition, in dealing with online learning, more creativity is needed from the teacher to prevent boredom and lack of motivation in students. Another obstacle is the limited communication between students and teachers. Which results in difficulties in understanding the learning materials.

Abstract

This study aims to conduct a literature review on students' ability to understand mathematical concepts when solving mathematical problems from primary to tertiary education levels. The method used was Systematic Literature Review (SLR), which reviewed 53 examples of research on students' ability to understand mathematical concepts. The sample consisted of indexed journals published between 2015 and 2022. Data were collected by documenting all articles related to students' understanding of mathematical concepts, including the year of the study, education level, sample size, and type of study. The results showed that in the last eight years, articles highlighting student characteristics and learning styles dominated, while articles on gender differences and learning media tended to be less popular among researchers. The majority of studies were conducted at the junior secondary level with sample sizes generally less than 30.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the impact of implementing Project Based Learning (PJBL) in improving students' creative thinking skills in mathematics learning at upper secondary schools. The research method used was a pre-test post-test control group experimental research design, which involved two groups of students: an experimental group that applied PJBL and a control group that received mathematics learning with conventional methods. The research instruments used were creative thinking ability test, observation, and interview. The results showed that students who engaged in mathematics learning with PJBL experienced a significant improvement in their creative thinking ability compared to students who followed conventional learning. In addition, interviews with students and teachers also showed that PPA provided a more interesting and relevant learning experience for students, and enabled the development of creative thinking skills effectively. These findings provide strong support for the use of PPA as an effective learning strategy in improving students' creative thinking ability in mathematics learning in the school environment.

Abstract

The purpose of writing this research is to find out that math learning has an important role in shaping students' understanding and numeracy skills. Teachers use various active learning strategies such as math games, math manipulatives, and creative projects to help students understand math concepts concretely. Students are also invited to see the connection between mathematics and daily life situations. This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach to explain the implementation of innovative learning in student character building in junior high school. The qualitative approach is used to describe naturally observed phenomena and to interpret the meaning behind them. The results of the study Mathematics is a fundamental branch of science, covering concepts such as numbers, counting, algebra, geometry, statistics, and calculus. Using symbols, formulas and rules, mathematics allows us to explain and model phenomena in a wide range of fields, from nature to science, technology and economics. More than just a tool for solving practical problems, math is also a means for the development of logical, analytical, and creative thinking skills.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach in geometry learning in secondary schools. Realistic Mathematics Education, which emphasizes mathematics learning through relevant contexts and students' real experiences, aims to improve students' understanding and skills in geometry. This study evaluates the effectiveness of the implementation of RME and identifies various challenges and potential solutions in its implementation. The method used is a literature review that includes studies related to the implementation of RME in geometry learning. The results of the analysis show that RME can improve students' understanding of geometric concepts by linking materials to everyday situations, thereby motivating and involving students more actively in the learning process. This approach helps students link theory to real practice, deepen their understanding, and develop problem-solving skills. There are challenges such as teacher readiness, limited resources, and limited time allocation, recommendations to improve teacher training, develop supportive policies, and provide adequate resources can help overcome these problems. With the right strategy and adequate support, RME has great potential to improve the quality of geometry learning in secondary schools and have a positive impact on student learning outcomes

Abstract

This study aims to assess the effectiveness of the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) approach in mathematics learning to improve students' critical thinking skills through a literature review method. The STEAM approach integrates various disciplines with the aim of creating relevant and innovative learning experiences, so as to support the development of critical thinking skills. This study utilizes a literature review method, where various sources such as scientific journal articles, academic books, and related publications are analyzed to identify the impact of the STEAM approach on improving students' critical thinking skills in mathematics learning. The analysis was carried out descriptively qualitatively by reviewing the results of previous studies that discussed the implementation of STEAM. Based on this study, it was found that the application of STEAM in mathematics learning consistently had a positive impact on improving students' critical thinking skills. This is due to the nature of the STEAM approach which encourages collaboration, analytical thinking, and the application of theoretical concepts to practical contexts. This study shows that the STEAM approach is effective in developing high-level thinking skills and can be used as an innovative learning model at various levels of education.

Abstract

This study explores the role of mathematics education in developing critical thinking skills in students within the context of Industry 5.0. As industries evolve and integrate human creativity with advanced technologies, the demand for critical thinking and problem-solving abilities has become more pronounced. Mathematics education, with its focus on logic, analysis, and problem-solving, is uniquely positioned to nurture these skills. The research employs a quantitative survey approach with a descriptive correlational design, analyzing the relationship between mathematics instruction and the development of critical thinking among high school and university students. A total of 150 respondents participated, all of whom had been exposed to problem-solving-based mathematics teaching methods. The study investigates the effectiveness of these methods in enhancing students’ critical thinking abilities and their relevance to meeting the challenges of Industry 5.0. Findings suggest a significant positive correlation between problem-solving mathematics education and the improvement of critical thinking skills. This research highlights the importance of integrating critical thinking into mathematics curricula to better prepare students for the digital and technological demands of the modern workforce.
