Abstract

This paper attempts to identify and analyze the Indonesia-Paraguay bilateral trade potentials based on their respective export competitiveness. The analysis uses the Revealed Comparative Advantage Index for year 2012 obtained from World Integrated Trade Solution (WITS). The paper reveals that there are huge opportunities for both countries to further strengthen bilateral trade relations.Based on the RCA Index analysis, the paper revealed that in general both countrieshave exported their commodities based on theirrespective comparative advantages, but however both countries current exports still do not reflect their potentials as most for Indonesia (none for Paraguay) of the top ten commodities with the strongest comparative advantagewereunable to penetrate both sides market. This study suggests both countries should remove trade barriers starting by providing access for the top 10 export commodities with the strongest comparative advantage to penetrate in both countries. This step could be a stepping stone towards strengthening bilateral trade relations. Keywords: Comparative Advantage, Export Competitiveness, Bilateral Trade Relation JEL classification numbers: F14, F15, F17

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the post-conflict peace education model developed by the Aceh Government to realize a peace culture as the efforts to establish sustainable positive peace in Aceh. Many experts believe that peace education is able to reduce or even eliminate the violence and foster a peace culture. For this instance, Aceh had implemented peace education which initiated by UNICEF during the conflict. Many senior high schools in Aceh region had been assisted by UNICEF to implement peace education by providing training to the teachers. After the conflict period the same thing also has been implemented by the Department of Culture and Tourism of Aceh Government. However, this study found that the implementation of peace education at schools has not implemented in accordance with the concepts of peace education developed by peace experts and international organizations such as UNESCO. Therefore, this study will analyze the peace education developed in Aceh to build sustainable positive peace.

Abstract

In 2010 the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) re-issued a new version by changing the methodology of calculating the Human Development Index (HDI) from Adult Literacy Rate (ALR) to Expected Year of Schooling (EYS). This improvement is expected to be able one of important indicators in the effort to build the quality of human life and improve the standard of Human Development Index. This study aims to see the impact of unemployment, per capita income, education, and health in influencing the human development index in North Sumatra. The method of analysis that used in this research is Error Correction Model (ECM) method to see the short and long term influence among research variables. The results showed that the value of ECT coefficient on the model have significant and negative of -0.337459 for estimation of Human Development Index. The ECM results also showed that in the short and long term the variables that used in this study significantly influence the human development index, with Adjusted R-squared 0,638 or 63,8% and the remains is 36,2% influenced by other variables outside the study.

Abstract

Teacher as the main role in learning process tend to communicate with student directly in the classroom. The utterances are categorized as directive illocutionary acts. This can be analyzed by using a sociopragmatics approach. This descriptive research is titled “Directive Illocutionary Acts as Teaching Method Relating to Status Scale Dimension in Sociopragmatics Study”. The object of this research is utterances that contain directive illocutionary acts. The aim of this research is to describe and analyze types of directive illocutionary acts uttered by teachers in the classroom in relation to status scale dimension. The research method used in the research is descriptive.  The writer uses a theory about types of directive illocutionary acts proposed by Searle in Cutting (2002). This research also relates directive illocutionary acts with status scale dimension as proposed by Holmes (2002). Another supporting theory is context theory put forward by McManis, et al. (1987) and direct and indirect speech theory by Yule (1996). The result shows that teachers tend to use commanding, requesting, and forbidding directive illocutionary acts. The dominant status scale dimension is superior in a teacher-student relationship which shows that the teacher has power in the classroom. The contexts that influence the utterance are physical, linguistic, epistemic and social contexts.

Abstract

The use of word to describe Palestine becomes the background of this research. The Qur'an and other holy books use the word Palestine equivalently to Al-Quds, Al-Aqsa, the blessed country, the holy city, the Promised Land, and Darussalam (Jerusalem). However, lately in the global world, social media, and international forums, the Palestinian capital has been widely replaced with Jerusalem. This study aims to understand and analyze the shift in meaning and the discourse that was built in it. The data contained in this study comes from documents Republika online. This study uses critical discourse analysis theory from Norman Fairclough and the theory of translation shift from Abdul Chaer. From the analysis, it is concluded that the Al Quds or Jerusalem allegations are inseparable from the geopolitical dominance of Israel and the mastery of mass media information which is oriented towards either Israel or Palestine. In addition, if it is equated linguistically, Jerusalem is a translation of the word Darussalam. Darussalam in the terminology of the Qur'an is a land of full of blessings, so that be said the use of the word of Jerusalem is linguistically accurate. This research concludes that Republika online uses more of ‘Al-Quds’ word compared to ‘Jerusalem’ in news publication about Palestine. This research also found that there has been a narrowing of meaning interpretation the word ‘Al-Quds’ to become ‘Jerusalem’. This research hopes that pragmatics theory would be developed in as much as many of unwritten things dominate more, formality of linguistic units even give birth to new semantic. Keywords:Al Quds, Jerusalem, semantic change, critical discourse analysis.

Abstract

Knowledge sharing plays an important role in the domain of business services. It leads to knowledge creation and decision making among its business professional. Although Knowledge Sharing Behaviour (KSB) among other professionals is acknowledged as important by scholars, understanding of what influence this behaviour among the business professional remains limited especially from Malaysia’s Business perspective. The Malaysian Government announced six Strategic Reform Initiatives (SRIs), the second critical component of the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) in addition to the 12 National Key Economic Areas (NKEAs), to boost Malaysia’s global competitiveness. The ETP was conceptualized with two key thrusts of focus, through the 12 NKEAs and competitiveness, to be delivered by the SRIs. The Human Capital Development (HCD) is one of the SRIs while Business Services are one of the 12 NKEAs. For this reason, the professional workings in business services of NKEAs were surveyed using the online web survey for this exploratory study. In this exploratory study, The Theory of Planned behaviour (TPB) was applied as the theoretical backbone of the conceptual framework. Understanding the determinants of this behaviour is important as it helps to encourage sharing of knowledge among business services professional community and should be an interest to academics and human capital development practitioners in this domain.

The purpose of this research is to analyze the effect of disclosure of environmental responsibility against the financial performance and stock performance. This research is quantitative research with case studies on the 24 companies prone environments listed on the Indonesia stock exchange. The company is a corporate environment prone activity of operations utilizing natural resources and give impact on the environment. Companies that operate in a prone environment tend to reveal the social and environmental information. The data in this study is secondary data obtained from the official website of the Indonesia stock exchange. This research uses the simple regression model with testing two hypotheses. The results showed that the influential environmental responsibility disclosure significantly to financial performance amounted to 30.4%. This condition indicates that environmental responsibility by revealing then can enhance the financial performance of the company. But the disclosure of environmental liability does not have a significant influence on performance shares. This condition indicates that the disclosure of environmental responsibility in this observation does not affect the performance of the stock due to the strong influence of external factors.
