Abstract

Background: Anemia during pregnancy is a health problem that can have serious consequences for the mother and fetus. One way to prevent and treat anemia is through enteral nutrition based on local foods rich in iron and balanced nutrition. Utilizing local foods as enteral nutrition is an alternative to increase nutrient intake, especially iron. Purpose: To develop and evaluate an enteral nutrition formula based on catfish, white sweet potato flour, and moringa leaf flour for pregnant women with anemia. Method: An experimental study using a completely randomized design (CRD) approach was conducted to develop an enteral nutrition formula based on catfish, white sweet potato flour, and moringa leaf flour. The study subjects consisted of three formula groups: F0 = commercial enteral powder (peptisol) as the control formula, and formulas F1 (71%) and F2 (57%). Test parameters included nutritional value, osmolality, flowability, pH, water content, color intensity, and organoleptic testing. The evaluation was conducted by measuring and assessing acceptability by 15 panelists consisting of dietetics students from the Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk statistical test, followed by one-way ANOVA if the data were normally distributed, and if there was an effect, followed by the least significant difference (LSD) test. However, if the data were not normally distributed, the non-parametric Kruskal-Wallis statistical test was used, followed by the Dunnett post-hoc test. Results: The statistical test for color intensity (L*) yielded a p-value <0.000, for color intensity (a*) yielded a p-value <0.088, for color intensity (b*) yielded a p-value <0.000, for osmolality yielded a p-value <0.000, for fluidity yielded a p-value <0.000, for acidity yielded a p-value <0.007, and for water content yielded a p-value <0.104. Based on statistical test results, the color category obtained a p-value <0.000, the aroma category obtained a p-value <0.002, the texture category obtained a p-value <0.000, the taste category obtained a p-value <0.003, and all categories obtained p-values <0.001. Formulas F1 and F2 met the energy, protein, fat, carbohydrate, and iron requirements of pregnant women with anemia. F1 had a higher omega-3 and omega-6 content, a faster flow rate, a whitish-green color, a better aroma, and a sweeter taste than F2. F1 was preferred by panelists and had a lower production cost than the commercial formula. Conclusion: Based on cost calculations, enteral formulas based on catfish, moringa leaf flour, and white sweet potato flour are more affordable than commercial enteral formulas. Suggestion: Future research can modify the raw materials or formula manufacturing techniques to meet viscosity standards and reduce osmolality to meet enteral formula standards.   Keywords: Anemia; Catfish; Enteral Nutrition; White Sweet Potato; Moringa Leaf Flour; Pregnant Women.

Abstract

Background: Rabies is a zoonotic disease that remains a public health problem in Indonesia, with a high mortality rate, despite being preventable through vaccination and post-exposure care. Indonesia is a rabies-endemic country with a high bite rate from rabies-carrying animals, low animal vaccination coverage, delayed post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), and a lack of public awareness, all of which contribute to the increased risk of death. Purpose: To conduct a systematic review of the incidence, risk factors, and mortality rates of rabies in Indonesia. Method: This systematic literature review (SLR) study used the PRISMA guidelines and the PICOS approach. The literature search was conducted from Google Scholar, PubMed/MEDLINE, and ScienceDirect databases for the period 2015-2025. Inclusion criteria included a cross-sectional design, Indonesian and English versions, and full-text access. Of the 4,344 articles searched, only 8 met the inclusion criteria and were reviewed. Results: The incidence of rabies in Indonesia remains high, particularly in endemic areas such as Bali, East Nusa Tenggara, and North Sulawesi, with most rabies cases caused by dog bites. Key risk factors include low dog vaccination coverage, delayed or incomplete PEP, low public awareness, dense stray dog populations, and limited access to health services. Rabies deaths are still reported annually, with a near 100% mortality rate after the onset of clinical symptoms, largely due to delayed treatment and a lack of public awareness of the importance of immediate action after a bite. Conclusion: Rabies in Indonesia remains a significant public health problem, with high incidence and mortality requiring serious attention. Strengthening mass vaccination programs for infected animals, improving access to and compliance with PEP, and ongoing public education are strategic steps to support the target of eliminating rabies deaths.   Keywords: Incidence; Mortality; Rabies; Risk Factors.

Abstract

Background: Background: Tuberculosis (TB) remains a major public health problem worldwide, particularly in developing countries, including Indonesia. This disease impacts not only individual health but also social and economic aspects of society. The high incidence of TB leads to an increased need for health services, long-term treatment, and the strengthening of sustainable disease control systems. Health financing is a critical component of the success of tuberculosis (TB) control programs, particularly in ensuring access to services and the sustainability of treatment. Purpose: To evaluate health financing in tuberculosis programs. Method: This study is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) approach. A systematic literature search was conducted in several international scientific databases, namely PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, Web of Science, and Google Scholar. The search process was conducted from January to March 2026 using a combination of keywords and Boolean operators (AND, OR) to identify relevant articles. Results: The review findings indicate that health financing contributes to increased TB service coverage, treatment success, and strengthened disease surveillance programs. However, the implementation of TB program financing still faces various challenges, such as budget constraints, dependence on external donors, unequal access to services, and a high financial burden borne by patients. Conclusion: A sustainable, integrated, and needs-based health financing system is needed to effectively support tuberculosis eradication.   Keywords: Evaluation; Financing; Health Programs; Tuberculosis.

Abstract

Background: Oxidative stress contributes to the pathogenesis of degenerative diseases by decreasing the activity of endogenous antioxidant enzymes, including catalase. Gambier leaves (Uncaria gambir Roxb.) from Babat Toman, South Sumatra, contain bioactive compounds with potential antioxidant activity. Purpose: To analyze the bioactive compounds of gambier leaf extract from Babat Toman and evaluate their effect on catalase enzyme activity in Wistar rats experiencing oxidative stress induced by the Forced Swimming Test, and to determine the most effective dose. Method: This experimental study used a post-test-only randomized control group design with 25 male Wistar rats divided into five groups: negative control (K1), Forced Swimming Test control (K2), and treatment groups given gambier extract at doses of 50 mg/kgBW (K3), 75 mg/kgBW (K4), and 100 mg/kgBW (K5). The extract was obtained from Babat Toman gambir leaves through a maceration method using 96% ethanol. Bioactive compounds were analyzed using GC-MS, while catalase activity was analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests. Results: GC-MS showed that gambir extract was dominated by n-hexadecanoic acid (27.24%), hexadecanoic acid ethyl ester (24.80%), and heptadecanoic acid ethyl ester (12.03%). Catalase activity showed a significant difference between groups (χ² = 10.453; p = 0.033), with the Mann-Whitney test indicating that catalase activity in group K5 was significantly higher than in group K2 (p = 0.028) and approached the level of group K1. Conclusion: Gambir leaf extract from Babat Toman effectively increased catalase enzyme activity in rats experiencing oxidative stress due to the Forced Swimming Test, with 100 mg/kgBW being the most effective dose.   Keywords: Antioxidant; Catalase Enzyme; Gambir Leaf Extract (Uncaria gambir Roxb.); Oxidative Stress; Rats.

Abstract

Background: Human resource development in the health sector has driven the implementation of a free health screening program aimed at fostering a healthy, productive, and globally competitive Indonesian population, as mandated by the Minister of Health Decree Number HK.01.07/MENKES/33/2025. Although the Wenang Community Health Center has implemented this program, various technical and non-technical obstacles persist, potentially affecting patient satisfaction. Healthcare service quality is a crucial factor due to its direct impact on patient satisfaction. Purpose: To analyze the service quality of the free health screening program using the servqual method and to examine the relationship between service quality dimensions and patient satisfaction. Method: This study employed an observational analytic quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. A sample of 72 respondents was selected using Slovin's formula. Data were collected via a structured questionnaire that had undergone validity and reliability testing. Data analysis included gap measurement using the Servqual method, as well as statistical analysis using the Chi-Square test (bivariate) and logistic regression (multivariate) to identify variables significantly influencing patient satisfaction. Results: The average gap scores were negative. Chi-Square analysis yielded p-values < 0.05 for the variables of tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, and empathy. Logistic regression analysis showed that the empathy variable had an Exp(B) value of 23.9. Average gap scores were negative, while the Q-value was < 1. Conclusion: All dimensions of service quality are associated with patient satisfaction. However, when analyzed simultaneously in a logistic regression model, only the empathy variable demonstrated a significant influence on patient satisfaction regarding the free health check-up program. Furthermore, service quality remains suboptimal. These research findings can serve as a reference for improving healthcare service quality, particularly concerning free health check-up programs at community health centers.   Keywords: Free Health Check-Ups; Patient Satisfaction; Service Quality.
