Abstract

Excavation activities require the support of heavy equipment to ensure effective and efficient field operations. The utilization of appropriate heavy machinery plays a crucial role in accelerating project execution and achieving predetermined construction targets. This research aims to analyze the productivity levels of various types of excavators and to estimate the duration of excavation work. The study employs both primary data, obtained through direct field observations, and secondary data, collected from interviews with relevant authorities. The research was conducted as part of the Lake Bakuok Revitalization Project (Phase III) in Aursati Village, Tambang District, Kampar Regency, Riau Province. The results indicate that the standard arm excavator achieved a productivity rate of 189.629 m³/hour, the long arm excavator recorded 97.332 m³/hour, while the amphibious excavator demonstrated a productivity of 48.150 m³/hour.

Abstract

Jalan Garuda Sakti is a provincial road that connects Pekanbaru City and Kampar Regency and serves as the boundary between inner-city and outer-city road segments. Road buildings and traffic equipment facilities are essential components in supporting road functionality, safety, and user comfort. This study aims to inventory the availability and identify the needs of road buildings and equipment facilities along both segments. A quantitative approach was employed through field surveys. The results indicate that no road buildings were available on either inner-city or outer-city segments. Of the nine types of road equipment facilities assessed, the inner-city segment was equipped with only two types, namely traffic signs and street lighting, while the outer-city segment had only traffic signs. The analysis of facility requirements shows that the inner-city segment requires roadside drainage channels, 17 street lighting units, 32 traffic signs, and two types of road markings. Meanwhile, the outer-city segment requires roadside drainage channels, 33 street lighting units, 28 traffic signs, and two types of road markings. Overall, the findings reveal that road buildings and equipment facilities are still inadequate in both segments, particularly in the outer-city area, highlighting the need for accelerated infrastructure development to improve traffic safety, comfort, and  mobility.

Abstract

This study analyzes the productivity of heavy equipment used in embankment and granular pavement works on Jalan Kampus Universitas Riau. The efficiency of heavy equipment utilization plays an important role in determining project duration and operational costs in road construction. This research compares two alternatives of heavy equipment usage: the configuration applied by the project contractor and an alternative proposed by the author. The methodology includes field observations, primary and secondary data collection, and quantitative analysis of equipment productivity, work duration, and operational costs. The results show that the productivity of field equipment includes an Excavator CAT 320 GX of 90.888 m³/hour, Dump Truck Mitsubishi FE SHD 136PS of 2.452 m³/hour, Motor Grader CAT 120 of 554.850 m²/hour, Vibratory Roller SAKAI SV526 of 255.15 m²/hour, Water Tank Truck Mitsubishi Colt Diesel FE 74 HD of 97.2 m³/hour, and Bulldozer CAT D4C of 37.583 m³/hour. The total project duration is 65 working days with an operational cost of Rp2,898,885.96 per hour. Comparative analysis indicates that the alternative equipment configuration offers better time and cost efficiency, making it suitable as a reference for similar projects.

Abstract

The Kampar River, which flows through Rumbio Village, Kampar Regency, Riau Province, plays a vital role in the hydrological cycle and the sustainability of the surrounding ecosystem. However, the river is prone to flooding, especially during the rainy season, which necessitates technical interventions such as the construction of bank protection structures. This study aims to analyze the cross-sectional capacity of the river after the construction of the bank protection and to evaluate the potential increase in flow capacity through cross-section modification on the opposite side of the constructed bank protection. The methods used include field surveys with echosounder instruments to obtain depth and flow velocity data, calculation of cross-sectional area using the Mean Section method, and analysis of river discharge. The results showed that the highest recorded discharge was 19.47 m³/s, with a cross-sectional capacity of 51.69 m³/s after the construction of the bank protection. Following the cross-sectional modification, the maximum discharge increased to 49.54 m³/s, with a modified cross-sectional capacity of 157.98 m³/s. The study concludes that cross-sectional modification can serve as an effective solution to increase flow capacity and reduce the risk of flooding in the area surrounding the Kampar River in Rumbio Village

Abstract

This study aims to utilize extracted Spent Bleaching Earth (SBE) waste as an additive material in the production of clay bricks. SBE waste is a by-product of the palm oil bleaching process, which is abundantly available and has the potential to cause environmental pollution if not properly managed. The variations of SBE content used in this research were 0%, 30%, 40%, 50%, and 60% of the total clay weight. Tests were conducted on the physical appearance, dimensions, porosity, and compressive strength of the resulting bricks. The results showed that the addition of SBE waste affected the color and surface texture of the bricks, where higher SBE content tended to decrease visual quality. The volume shrinkage values ranged from 35.24% to 39.34%, which still met the requirements of SNI 15-2094-2000. However, the compressive strength test results indicated a decrease as the SBE percentage increased, with the highest value of 2.70 MPa and the lowest of 1.76 MPa, both below the minimum SNI standard of 5 MPa (Class III). Overall, SBE waste can be utilized up to a 30% variation as an alternative additive material in brick production, but further optimization is required by reducing the mixture variation to meet the structural strength standards.
