Abstract

This research focuses on the implementation of stunting prevention policies in Enggano Island, North Bengkulu Regency, with special attention to policy determinants in remote areas. To understand the complexity and dynamics of interactions between factors that influence the success of health policies in this hard-to-reach area, this research uses a qualitative explanatory approach with case study methods and dynamic system modeling. The results show that the success in reducing stunting rates on Enggano Island cannot be separated from the active involvement of various parties, including the government, health workers, and community leaders, who all work together in monitoring, educating, and providing additional food to children at risk of stunting. In addition, utilizing local wisdom has been shown to play an important role in strengthening households' adaptive capacity to this health problem, which in turn contributes to reducing stunting rates. Policy support complemented by good management also allows for more effective collaboration between actors, thus facilitating policy implementation. This research provides new insights into the importance of integrating local values and cross-sectoral cooperation in addressing health challenges in remote areas. The findings also emphasize that a holistic and adaptive policy approach is necessary for successful stunting management, especially in areas with limited access and resources.

Abstract

The inaccuracy of the disease diagnosis code is one of the problem affecting the quality of health services. Based on the preliminary result, 89 outpatient diagnosis codes in a medical record found 30 inaccuracies data from SIMPUS result of general poly at Purwoharjo Health Center. The impact of this inaccuracy has been influenced by the accuracy of disease data that resulted from making report data. The purpose of this study was to analyze the inaccuracy of disease diagnosis codes for outpatient medical records with SIMPUS at Purwoharjo Public Health Center. It was a descriptive study with observation, interviews, and documentation data collection. The object of this study was 95 outpatient medical records with simple random sampling. The result of this research was found 42% inaccuracy code of outpatient medical records with SIMPUS. The cause of these problems was the coder less careful in enforcing the disease diagnosis code because of the high workload of the coder and there’s no job description in SOP, so the advice that can be given to Purwoharo Health Center is to hold a division of tasks evenly and can be written in the SOP job description.

Abstract

This study aimed to assess the Quality of Life (QoL) of family caregivers of older persons with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) at home. The study utilized the 33-item Quality of Life Index to evaluate the QoL of 394 family caregivers caring for older persons with T2DM under the six Community Health Centers working area in City of Medan, Indonesia. Data analysis involved descriptive statistics and chi-square tests. The study found that the caregivers aged between 60 and 74 years reported a significantly higher prevalence of poor QoL (78.9%). Male caregivers were more likely to report poor QoL (84.7%) compared to female caregivers (45.0%). Unmarried caregivers have good QoL (100%) compared to widowed and married status (24% and 48.7%). Low level of education has poor QoL 83.1%. Spouse caregiver has poorer QoL compared to child and other relative’s relationships. Those caring for older persons with T2DM for less than 5 years (68.7% for 1-2 years and 71.9% for 3-5 years) reported poorer QoL compared to those caregiving for more than 6 years (44%). Caregivers who look after older adults with two and more than three chronic illnesses and complications tend to have a lower QoL. This study highlights that older age, male gender, married/widowed, elementary school, caregiver spouse, shorter caregiving duration (less than 5 years), and having comorbid and complication tend to have poorer QoL.

Abstract

Education plays a pivotal role in national development, and assessing its quality is crucial. One widely recognized international assessment is the OECD's PISA, which evaluates mathematics, science, and reading abilities among 15-year-old students globally. In 2018, Indonesian students scored below the OECD average, highlighting deficiencies in the education system. This study investigates the determinants influencing Indonesian students' PISA scores using 2018 data. Multiple linear regression is employed to analyze three models: mathematics, science, and reading scores as dependent variables. Independent variables include age, gender, study time in mathematics, science, and reading, economic, social, and cultural status, family wealth, home ICT ownership, teacher feedback, and school discrimination perception. The findings reveal varying influences on PISA scores across domains: age does not affect mathematics scores, gender does not affect science scores, and all variables significantly impact reading ability scores at the 5% confidence level.

Abstract

Indonesia's youth hold promise for economic growth, but disadvantaged youth in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) face hurdles in education and employment. It is not surprising if the NTB's Human Development Index (HDI) lags the national average, reflecting educational shortcomings. There are still many youths lack access to quality education and often lack undergraduate degrees due to language barriers. While scholarship programs like Bidikmisi exist, financial limitations discourage participation, the NTB government's Beasiswa NTB program offers financial aid, but resource constraints limit its reach and scholarship amounts. Fact shows enrolment rates in higher education are significantly lower in rural areas and for less affluent youth. Thus, the NTB government acknowledges these disparities but needs further action to address them. This is a qualitative research examining the NTB government's strategies through a self-administered survey and document analysis. Findings depict that there are two key programs; Beasiswa NTB, which supports high-achieving students domestically and internationally, and Rumah Bahasa, which offers language training, particularly English, to increase access to international scholarships. The government can address these disparities through targeted programs, scholarships, mentorship, and collaboration with NGOs and private entities. The NTB government collaborates with universities abroad through shared funding to support disadvantaged students. Limited funding, reaching remote areas, and ensuring adequate financial support are challenges for the NTB government. While NTB’s scholarship programs and collaborations promote educational equity, further efforts are required to bridge the gap and empower disadvantaged youth.

Abstract

The infusion of technology in teaching and learning has opened up new ways to engage and educate and stimulated discussions over its role in perpetuating social divides while creating uneven distributions of power. In doing so, this study provides a theoretical lens on the potential ways in which ChatGPT and critical digital pedagogy intersect around technology affordances to support community-engaged, critically oriented teaching practice. Grounded in critical pedagogy and a theoretical framework informed by the basic tenets of ChatGPT, this research seeks to explore how it addresses issues that underpin critically oriented digital teaching practices rooted in dialogue & empowerment, and social justice. This scholarly contribution addresses an existing gap in the literature by exploring the interplay between ChatGPT and critical digital pedagogy, providing discerning contemplations on how technology can stimulate more engaged, vital, and socially equitable educational modalities. Drawing on previous research and methodologies, the present study unpacks associations between ChatGPT and critical digital pedagogy. Key findings from this exploration show ChatGPT as an essential benefit of reflection practices for empowerment and justice in the digital learning area. The implications of these findings are substantial for educators, researchers and policymakers wishing to foster more equitable educational practices in the digital age.

Abstract

Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS) cases continue to increase and are becoming a top global public health problem. When weight loss is more than 10% below the previous body weight, the relative risk of death is going to increase almost 6-fold. A viral load checkup is a test to measure the amount of HIV in the blood. The increase in nutritional needs and tissue catabolism is caused by the increase in viral load in the body. Malnutrition screening is necessary to evaluate nutritional status so that this treatment can be recommended if the patient is malnourished. This research is an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design. Analysis was carried out on 109 people living with HIV who received treatment at RSUD Dr. M Yunus Bengkulu. The independent variable in this study is the viral load level, while the dependent variable is screening for malnutrition and the nutritional status of people living with HIV/AIDS—data analysis using the Spearman Rank test. The study results showed no correlation between viral load levels and nutritional status with a value of p=0.243 (p>0.05), and there was a correlation between viral load levels and malnutrition screening with p≤001. The viral load of HIV patients at Dr. M Yunus Bengkulu does not correlate with nutritional status, but it correlates with malnutrition screening.

Abstract

Health services are undergoing changes in terms of digitalization. Electronic Medical Record (EMR) is one form of change in the impact of digitalization in the health service sector. It is hoped that the existence of EMR in the health services sector can improve the performance of health workers in providing services to patients so that it can improve the level of public health. However, with EMR there are still problems in its use. Many health service institutions apply several methods to adapt to changes or novelties in the field of EMR, one of which is by providing training on the use of EMR to health workers. This research aims to determine the effectiveness of EMR training on the readiness of health workers in using EMR in health services. This research uses meta analysis and systematic review methods with the PICO model (P = EMR users, I = EMR training, C = Non EMR training, O = readiness to use EMR). Articles were obtained through searching articles in the PubMed database. The articles used are full-text articles from 2019 to 2024. Articles were selected using the PRISMA flow diagram. Articles were analyzed using the RevMan 5.3 application. A total of 5 articles analyzed came from Ethiopia. The study results show that EMR training can increase the readiness of health workers to use EMR to support health services (aOR = 1.87; CI 95% = 0.92 – 3.79; p = 0.08). Health workers who receive EMR training will be 1.87 times better prepared to use EMR in health services than health workers who do not receive previous EMR training.
