Abstract

This article aims to discuss how humans can avoid trauma from the bad experiences they encounter in life, which can lead to a decline in mental health and disrupt the human mind. In human life, one cannot escape various kinds of incidents, such as the loss of a loved one in a tragic way, being robbed, accidents, bullying, and many more. By reframing memories or events that have occurred, it can be the most effective way to build holistic recovery. Because the recovery process from trauma requires methods that are considered appropriate and suitable, such as psychological approaches, which can help reduce trauma and build resilience. Therefore, this research aims to analyze how recalling memories can help people make peace with those memories, through photos, videos, and perhaps places that were once visited together.

Abstract

This study explores the application of pastoral counseling within the dynamics of Growing Together Groups (Kelompok Tumbuh Bersama – KTB) as an effort to build a faith-nurturing community at the Anugerah Misi Theological Seminary (STTAM) West Nias. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, this research analyzes how pastoral counseling—particularly through the integration of the Psychodelsi model (Psycho, Deliverance, Spiritual)—can contribute to students’ spiritual growth and maturity. The study reveals that many theology students still carry unresolved emotional wounds, particularly anger toward their parents, which hinder their spiritual development. By employing pastoral counseling integrated with the Psychodelsi framework, students are guided through personal reflection (life story), psychological typology assessment, and spiritual deliverance to identify the roots of inner bitterness and to experience genuine forgiveness. The results indicate that the pastoral counseling process not only reduces emotional distress and anger but also leads to deeper spiritual renewal, reconciliation, and transformation of character. Furthermore, the integration of pastoral counseling principles within KTB strengthens community bonds, enhances accountability among members, and fosters an environment where faith can flourish through shared experiences of healing and discipleship. In conclusion, the study highlights that the Psychodelsi-based pastoral counseling approach provides a holistic and contextual framework for spiritual formation in theological education, making it an effective model for developing faith communities that embody Christlike maturity, compassion, and wholeness.

Abstract

This research is a literature study that explores the role of social media in the context of the church's mission, especially in efforts to reach and influence apologists in the digital age. The digital age has changed the way people interact, learn, and seek information, and churches have had to adapt to be relevant in fulfilling their mission. This study uses a qualitative approach with content analysis of Christian mission content on TikTok with several digital mission actors. The aim is to understand how messages of faith are constructed, conveyed and received in the context of a multireligious society in the digital space. The results show that the practice of mission on TikTok presents two sides: great potential in reaching the digital generation and affirming faith, but also ethical risks when missions are carried out without considering the sensitivity of other religions. From an ethical review, this study confirms the importance of carrying out the mission in a relevant way and contextual awareness. Reflective, communicative, and exclusive missions not only demonstrate faithfulness to Christ, but also present a peaceful testimony in the midst of a diversity of religious identities. By analyzing the existing literature, this study tries to answer some key questions that pose ethical dilemmas: how to stay true to the call to mission without hurting or offending other religious identities? God's mission must be accomplished.

Abstract

The increasing number of dysfunctional Christian families, marked by emotional detachment, unresolved conflicts, communication breakdown, and spiritual disorientation, has led to a significant rise in pastoral cases related to family crises within local churches. Existing pastoral approaches often focus on moral correction or doctrinal teaching but lack a relational framework capable of rebuilding emotional bonds and repairing attachment wounds. This study aims to formulate a pastoral intervention model grounded in relational counseling techniques to restore trust, communication, and spiritual integrity in dysfunctional families. Using a descriptive qualitative method through theological literature review, pastoral counseling theory, family psychology, and biblical analysis of relational restoration texts such as Genesis 33, Hosea 11, Matthew 18, and Ephesians 4:25–32, this article develops the Relational Pastoral Counseling Intervention Model (RPCIM). The model integrates emotional regulation, empathic communication, relational reframing, forgiveness work, and spiritual covenant renewal. The findings show that relational counseling enables families to rebuild secure emotional attachment, clarify expectations, restore mutual dignity, and rediscover their identity as a covenantal community shaped by the love of Christ.

Abstract

Pregnancy outside marriage often produces deep psychological, moral, and spiritual crises accompanied by shame, fear, rejection, and identity confusion. Churches and Christian counselors frequently respond moralistically, failing to address the trauma and cognitive distortions experienced by young women in this situation. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach through literature review, biblical-theological analysis (Psalm 34:18; John 8:1–11), and a synthesis of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), bibliotherapy, and therapeutic journaling within a pastoral counseling framework. The research proposes the Christian Supportive Counseling Model for Crisis Pregnancy (CSCM-CP), consisting of holistic assessment, emotional stabilization, cognitive restructuring, narrative reconstruction through bibliotherapy, journaling for self-integration, and spiritual healing. The study affirms that counselors must function as empathetic companions, not judges, by integrating psychological techniques with Christian values of grace, restoration, and accompaniment

Abstract

Toxic parenting refers to destructive parenting patterns that negatively affect a child’s development. This harmful parenting style is characterized by behaviors such as excessive control, verbal abuse, emotional neglect, and unrealistic expectations toward children. These conditions can lead to various mental health problems in children, including low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, as well as aggressive or withdrawn behavior. Moreover, toxic parenting often persists across generations if left unaddressed. This article discusses a counseling case study of a family demonstrating toxic parenting practices, along with intervention efforts aimed at improving the parenting dynamics. The method employed is a descriptive qualitative single-case study, with data collected through observation and counseling interviews. The findings indicate that toxic parenting within the family led to emotional and behavioral problems in the child; however, through intensive counseling intervention, improvements were observed in parental communication patterns and behavior. The discussion relates the case findings to relevant literature, affirming that parental awareness and professional assistance can break the cycle of toxic parenting. The conclusion emphasizes the importance of positive parenting education, emotional regulation, and effective communication for parents as preventive measures against toxic parenting, as well as the need for counseling support for families experiencing harmful parenting patterns.

Abstract

The teaching of Ekam Sat Vipra Bahudha Vadanti “Truth is one, though the wise call it by many names”offers a meaningful framework for interreligious engagement in diverse societies. Rather than treating other religions as theological systems to be judged or criticized, this study shows that they are understood as authentic and meaningful expressions of spirituality. Such an understanding resonates with John Hick’s view of a transcendent reality that is encountered and interpreted through different religious and cultural traditions. The pluralistic outlook that emerges from this reflection is not merely theoretical but grows out of lived philosophical reflection and everyday social experience. In this way, the findings contribute to and enrich Paul Knitter’s typology of interreligious relations. The religious life of the Hindu community at Pura Jagadhita Taas illustrates a distinctive and dynamic form of religious practice, marked by a high degree of fluidity. Here, religious communication is shaped less by rigid doctrinal claims and more by shared ethical values such as harmony, moral virtue, and respect for human dignity. Seen in this light, Ekam Sat functions not as an abstract theological formula, but as a lived spiritual orientation one that encourages inclusive social attitudes and strengthens cohesion within pluralistic communities.

Abstract

Online game addiction has become a significant developmental challenge for adolescents, particularly in Indonesia with its rapidly growing population of digital game users. This study aims to analyze the phenomenon of online game addiction among adolescents by integrating recent empirical findings with a Christian pastoral-theological perspective. Using a literature review approach, this research examines the causes, symptoms, and psychosocial effects of gaming addiction and interprets their implications for character formation and spiritual maturity. Empirical studies indicate that addiction arises from a combination of internal factors—including the need for recognition, emotional escape, and low self-control—and external factors such as ineffective parenting, peer pressure, and reward-based game design. Its impact extends beyond emotional, social, and academic impairment, affecting adolescents’ spirituality through diminished spiritual disciplines and weakened identity formation. Theologically, addiction is understood as a distortion of freedom and relational wholeness, hindering the adolescent’s growth toward maturity in Christ. This study emphasizes the necessity of a holistic pastoral response through relational guidance, family involvement, and the cultivation of spiritual disciplines as essential strategies for recovery and the strengthening of adolescents’ spiritual identity in the digital age.

Abstract

This article examines the mission of the church within the context of religious and cultural pluralism in Indonesia by emphasizing interfaith dialogue as a relevant and contextual form of Christian witness. In a plural society vulnerable to identity-based conflicts and intolerance, the church is called to engage in mission not through exclusive or confrontational approaches, but through dialogical practices that respect human dignity and religious diversity. Grounded in the paradigm of Missio Dei, this study affirms that mission is the church’s participation in God’s ongoing work of love, justice, and reconciliation in the world. Through theological and biblical reflection, interfaith dialogue is understood not as syncretism or theological compromise, but as a faithful and incarnational expression of gospel witness. The article demonstrates that interfaith dialogue has strong biblical foundations and offers significant implications for contemporary churches, particularly in fostering interreligious relationships, social engagement, and transformative presence within Indonesia’s plural society.
