Abstract

The ability to translate from foreign languages is important, especially for English Education which is closely related to foreign languages. Translation is needed because students have to get information and knowledge for everyday life. The objective of this research is to describe the English-Indonesian translation procedures were used in translating narrative text. This research has used descriptive qualitative method. This research has been conducted at STKIP Muhammadiyah Bogor with the population of 6th semester students of English Education Department and consists of 5 samples taken using a purposive sampling technique. This study used students’ translation results and interview for data collecting technique. The result of this study, the writer found 266 translation procedure has used by participant, consist of transposition 159 cases, modulation 51 cases, adaption 11 cases, transference 0 case, addition 22 cases, reduction 15 cases, descriptive equivalent 5 cases, and naturalization 3 cases, and the difficulty in translating the text is the discovery of new vocabulary and the arranged of a word into a sentence.

Abstract

There are two main competences that should be developed during the language learning process, Grammatical Competence and Communicative Competence. The former deals with the ability to generate and construct some types of grammatical sentences, while the latter is the actual use of language in a real situation, and in various kinds of language use in different context. Once the students can master the rules of sentence structure, but they are not sucessful at being able to use the language in menaingful communication. For those reasons, the language teacher should design the learning process that encourage their student to speak and communicate actively. Daily language activities is one way which is hoped that both competences, especially the communicative competence can be reached in foreign language learning. The students, then, understand how to vary the language use according to the setting and their purpose to speak. This qualitative research aimed to describe the language teaching model through daily language activities implemented in Pesantren, in order to help the students master the communicative competence well. In collecting the data the researcher used observation and indepth interview to know the real condition of the teaching method and strategies used by Pesantren in teaching the foreign language, and some factors affecting the success of language teaching. Finally, the findings showed that the daily language activities can improve the students’ communicative competence.

Abstract

This research is qualitative research. The objective of the research is to determine the students' ability in writing application letters and analyzing grammatical error in writing application letters. The subject of the research is twelfth grade students of SMK Pertiwi, located in Cibungbulang-Bogor. The purposive sampling is sample to determine the class that would treatment. Purposive sampling is sampling based on certain considerations such as population characteristics or previously known characteristics. The sample of the research is the twelfth-grade students consisting of 10 students from two classes. The data collecting technique of the research used questionnaire and writing test. The result of the research from the data, the writer described the percentage based on the type of error. First, omission, there were 10 errors of omission that found on the students` writing application letter. The percentage of omission error was 77%. Second, There were 6 errors of misformation. The percentage of misformation error was 46%. Third, addition. There were 4 errors of addition. The percentage of addition error was 31%.. Last, misordering. There were 2 errors of misordering. The percentage of misordering error was 15%. Based on the results that the students still have so many lack of vocabulary, lack of understanding on grammar, they though English was very difficult because it was a foreign language. Students also realized that they still had luck of grammar mastery, and practice

Abstract

The objectives of this research is to describe the students' perceptions, and to find out the obstacles that students face in using Quizizz as online learning during the COVID-19 Pandemic. This study was designed a descriptive qualitative. The participants of this research are 25 students at the eight grade of SMPN 1 JASINGA. The participants of this research were selected using purposive sampling technique. The data were obtained through distributing questionnaires to the participants. The results of this study had shown the students’ perception on the use of Quizizz as online learning during the Covid-19 at SMPN 1 JASINGA had a positive perception based on the variables such as; attractiveness, efficiency, perspicuity, dependability, stimulation, and novelty

Abstract

A gale of change is blowing in the pedagogy of English Language Teaching (ELT) ICT has initiated new possibilities into classroom. The role of the teacher, the nature and the context of learning, as well as the function and relative importance of course cotent have all been challenged and redefined. This research paper aims at sharing practical experiments wth ICT in teaching English language and literature. It deals with the pragmatic aspects of using ICT with the student community of business management and humanities. The extensive use of web 2.0. components, internet, blogs, e-groups, SMSs, emails. Socializing portals, e-dictionaries, e-encyclopedia, power point presentation, webcasting, and audio-video, as teaching tools have been mad in the classroom. The student community was motivated to make use of cyber cafes and GPRS mobiles to interact with the teacher. The paper is divided in two parts. in the first part of the paper deals with the experiments carried out to develop Business English skills. The second part is dedicated in teaching literature, while the third part deals with general inferences of these experiments, its limitations and opportunities

Abstract

The objectives of this research are to know the difficulties faced by English teachers in teaching writing descriptive text and to know what strategies are used by English teachers to teach writing descriptive text using the blended learning method. This research method is a qualitative descriptive method. The population of this research is English teachers in Senior High School 1 Cigudeg. The sample consisted of 3 English teachers in 10th grade at Senior High School 1 Cigudeg. The writer conducted this research in terms of the teaching difficulties in teaching writing the descriptive text of English teachers at Senior High School 1 Cigudeg. The data in this research was collected using observation, field notes, and interviews. In teaching writing descriptive text, the teachers faced seven difficulties. Those difficulties were related to the teachers, students, and writing itself. It was also found that the teachers used strategies to overcome those difficulties.

Abstract

This study investigates how extensive reading strategies affect tertiary level EFL students’ English reading attitudes, reading comprehension and vocabulary acquisition. A case study of ten Indonesian EFL learners at STKIP Muhammadiyah Bogor Teacher Training Institute who followed an extensive reading program for 12 weeks is presented. Students’ attitudes to the extensive reading strategies implemented were collected using qualitative data using documentation and interviews. Factors affecting motivation to read, such as time management, interest level and ease of reading material will be discussed. The study showed that the proficiency level of Indonesian EFL students in extensive reading is particularly affected by time management and the appropriateness of the level of reading materials. Students responded positively to extensive reading for a variety of reasons and extensive reading can motivate them to read more widely in English. The findings support Day and Bamford’s (2002) ten principles for extensive reading.

Abstract

This research aims to investige the main factors that cause the students` English pronunciation errors on fricative sound and to identify the types of the students` English pronunciation errors on fricative sound pronounced by Sundanese students at STKIP Muhammadiyah Bogor. The writer collects data and does the following: through interviews with Sundanese students by record the pronunciation and analyze the errors based on the concept of Error Analysis of multiple sources. Research findings indicated that factor and types of error. Firstly, the data found that the most apparent causes or factors of pronunciation errors are: first, the interlingual transfer that affected students` mother tongue Second, the intralingual transfer that focused on students’ target languagegeneralization, inaccurate rules and misunderstand the rules. Third, context of learning that covered in social and classroom situation. Secondly, the writer drew the conclusion based on the analysis of test : It is proven that students make four kinds of errors, namely: Types of English fricative consonant errors made by students are omission errors (28), addition errors (41), formation errors (17), and arrangement errors (6) .

Abstract

The main objective of this research is to investigate the technique of teaching vocabulary in English learning using picture pocket game to enrich elementary[1]age students' vocabulary in the classroom. This research was taken at 3 elementary schools, namely SDN Cibatok 03, SDS Al-Husna Leuwiliang and SDIT Bumi Putera Pamijahan. The method of this research is qualitative descriptive method that using purposive sampling. The instruments of this research used observation, field note, interview and documentation in collecting data. The result of this research shows that picture pocket game was a proper technique of teaching English vocabulary to enrich elementary-age students. Furthermore, the picture pocket game can encourage students’ interest and motivate in learning English, also make a pleasant atmosphere in the classroom. The English vocabulary materials selection given by a teacher through a picture pocket game were adapted to the students' ability and selected according to indicators of students’ language daily use

Abstract

This was qualitative research. The objective of this research is to investigated the using animation videos toward students’ vocabulary mastery. There were 36 participants involved at seventh grade of SMP Hayyun Sasmita (Junior High School) Bogor. Observation and documentation employed as data collecting technique. The observation conducted to know student learning attitude while using this animation video strategy and the documentation date attached to proving student vocabulary performance during using animation video strategy. Based on thus technique collecting data, the result revealed that, students’ vocabulary was increasing by using video animation strategy. The student communicative, interested, and mastering vocabulary as the variable result during research conducted.
