Abstract

Abstract: Matthew's citation of Isaiah 7:14 is one of the thorny issues in biblical studies. The problem is when Matthew interprets the word almah into parthenos to be attributed to Mary. The Opponents argue that Matthew has deliberately changed the word almah in Isaiah 7:14 so that the original meaning of the verse has been corrupted. For the cons, almah cannot mean virgin. The author uses a semantic approach and textual analysis to understand the conversion of almah into parthenos. Through this article. The author concludes that Matthew's interpretation of almah to parthenos is correct. Matthew did not corrupt the original meaning of Isaiah 7:14. There are 2 arguments from the author. First, almah can be interpreted as parthenos or virgin because the two terms in the Old Testament are interchangeable. The criteria that describe almah is a woman who is not yet married or married but has never had sexual intercourse with man. This criterion is suitable for Mary. Secondly, Isaiah 7:14 which retains the word parthenos has been around for a long time, 200 years before Jesus was born. So, Matthew's use of the word parthenos is pure without damaging the original text. Isaiah 7:14 text because the content of Matthew 1:23 is very similar to the Septuagint version of Isaiah 7:14.

Abstract

Abstract: This research discusses what God has joined together and what man should not divorce in Matthew 19:6 (exegesis study). This command of God refers to the concept of marriage and divorce. In reality, many Christian couples face various problems that sometimes lead to divorce, and some to adultery. God clearly says that "they are no longer two, but one. Therefore, what God has joined together, let no man put asunder." Therefore, the purpose of writing this article is to give Christians a deeper understanding of God's intent and purpose in marriage. Marriage is seen as a sacred thing, done once in a lifetime. In this research, the author used a qualitative method and conducted a literature review as a source of material by looking at various books related to the topic, the Bible, journals and the internet. The approach taken was exegesis with word analysis and syntax analysis using the help of Bible Works 10.

Abstract

Abstract: Colossians 2:3 by examining the historical, literary context, as well as translating and evaluating the text from the original language. The Epistle to the Colossians, believed to have been written by Paul during his first imprisonment in Rome, aims to counter heresies and affirm the supremacy of Christ. In the literary context, Colossians 2:3 highlights that all wisdom and hidden knowledge are in Christ. Analysis of the Greek text shows that the word ἀπόκρυφοι means “hidden,” which is consistent with the New Living Translation (NLT) translation. The analysis of the Greek text shows that the word ἀπόκρυφοι means “hidden,” which is consistent with the New Living Translation (TB) and the Private Translation (TP), while the BIMK Translation renders the word as “uncovered,” which is not entirely appropriate. Word and grammatical analysis show that Christ is the ultimate source of all wisdom and knowledge. Interpretive help confirms that Christ is the center of God's previously hidden mysteries. The exegetical conclusion underlines that in Christ there is all the wisdom and knowledge necessary for a life in accordance with God's will. The relevance for today includes the importance of Christ as the ultimate source of knowledge and wisdom and the direction of a meaningful life in relationship with Him.

Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to identify and analyze the phrase "My hour has not yet come" uttered by Jesus in John 2:4 in a theological context. This phrase appeared when Jesus responded to Mary, his mother's request to help solve the problem that occurred at the wedding in Cana at that time, namely the lack of wine. This research uses a qualitative approach with a literature review to examine this phrase. In conclusion, from the research conducted by the researcher by paying attention to and analyzing the original text, and various historical and literary contexts, it can show that the phrase "my hour" refers to the moment of the revelation of Jesus' glory and part of the full realization of his divine mission. It also explores the eschatological and theological significance of the phrase, and gives its relevance for today. In addition, this study also discusses how this phrase is used in the gospel of John, which has or discusses the theme of salvation and redemption. Through this study, the researcher seeks to provide deeper insights into how divine time is understood and expressed in the context of Jesus' ministry life, as well as its relevance for Christian life today.

Abstract

The book of Esther presents a deep understanding of God's providence, even though the Lord's name is not explicitly mentioned. This raises the question of how God's hidden actions can be understood and applied to present-day situations, especially in the face of seemingly random or unexpected challenges. This article aims to explore how God's providence is revealed through events in the Book of Esther and how these principles can be applied in the context of contemporary life, providing an understanding that God always works through individuals and events to fulfill His purposes. This research utilized a qualitative method with a literature review approach. Data was collected from primary sources such as the Book of Esther and secondary references including relevant theological books, Bible commentaries, journals and online articles. Analysis was conducted using inductive reasoning to understand the events in the Book of Esther in the context of God's providence. The results show that God's providence is seen in seemingly coincidental events, such as Esther's appointment as queen, King Ahasuerus' change of heart, as well as the revelation of Haman's evil plan. The book emphasizes that God, although not directly visible, is always present to lead and care for His people. In today's context, this providence inspires courage, faith, and trust in God, especially in difficult or uncertain situations.

Abstract

The earthquake that struck Palu on 28 September 2018 was one of the biggest natural disasters in Indonesia, causing devastating impacts, both in terms of casualties and material losses. But behind the tragedy, many saw God's providence, which is God's intervention that is not seen directly but is full of meaning and wisdom. This research aims to examine and reflect on how God's providence was seen in the Palu earthquake, both in terms of finding the meaning behind the event. The method used is a qualitative approach with phenomenological analysis of the experiences and reflections of affected communities. The results showed that although disasters brought suffering, many people felt the presence of God who provided protection, strength and recovery through the events that occurred after the earthquake. The research also highlighted the importance of awareness of God's greatness and sovereignty in the face of natural disasters and how it strengthens the relationship between humans and God, as well as between each other.

Abstract

The sovereignty of God is a classic topic that is always relevant when faced with the many challenges and obstacles experienced by every human being. For example, in human life, especially believers. Sometimes God is always there despite the fact that mankind does not care about Him. It is almost the same as what happened in the OT era where the Israelites did not care about the love that God gave them but God still continued to take care of His people. This is quite a unique thing why God always keeps His power over His people even though He is often ignored by His people. Therefore, the discussion below is about the sovereignty of God or the totality of God in guarding and protecting His people.

Abstract

Miracles and magic are two things whose meanings are often related in people's lives. Both lead to a miraculous act that sometimes people find it difficult to distinguish which miracles are from miracles and which are from magic. This study analyzes the two words in the context of the Acts of the Apostles and their relevance in the contemporary context. The research method used is qualitative research with a pragmatic linguistic approach to understand the meaning that arises from the context at that time. The results showed that the use of the word "miracle" in the text of Acts is a miraculous event centered on the transformation of faith and aims to glorify God. Whereas the word "magic" is used for miraculous events but for wrong or evil purposes, reflecting spiritual perversion and exploitation, and incompatible with the teachings of Christianity. In addition, this research seeks to provide a clear understanding in dealing with issues in the contemporary context, such as magical practices using Tarot cards conducted through social media and various practices of "smart people" and "shamans" in Indonesia. Based on the pragmatics of Acts, only God has power over the future and miracles are the result of the relationship between humans and God, not from various mystical tools or practices.
