Abstract

This research aims to contribute to the development of a holistic understanding of worship theology, which integrates spiritual and social dimensions in the life of believers and encourages churches in Indonesia to play an active role in fighting for justice and truth in a pluralistic society. The research uses a qualitative descriptive method with a literature study approach. The research findings show that in Isaiah 1:10-17 there are three interrelated theological implications relevant to the current context of churches in Indonesia, namely the integration of worship with social ethics, holistic transformation in repentance, and social justice as a concrete manifestation of faith. Thus, this presents a new paradigm in understanding the relationship between religious rituals and social responsibility. These findings provide important contributions to the development of contextual theology in Indonesia, particularly in responding to various social injustice issues that still persist.

Abstract

In discussing this research, the researcher uses a qualitative method, and conducts a literature review as a source of material, namely by looking at various books related to the topic discussed, the Bible, journals and the Internet. The approach used is an exegetical study with word analysis and syntax analysis with the help of the Bibleworks 10 application. In the discussion of exegesis, it cannot be separated from the background of the letter 2 Corinthians, the interpretation and results of the exegesis. After conducting exegesis in the text contained in the letter 2 Corinthians 12: 6-7, it provides four important statements: First, If I want to boast, I will not be a fool, I will speak the truth. Second, But I will restrain myself, so that no one believes in me more than what they see and hear. Third, Therefore, an angel of Satan was given to me in my flesh to tempt me. Fourth, So that I do not exalt myself. Therefore it is true that the expression of the apostle Paul needs to be understood using common sense by today's servants of God. So that in his service every servant of God does not exalt himself and boast because of the advantages he has. But Jesus Christ is the one who is exalted. A servant of God should be obedient and submit to his Master.

Abstract

God is a living, independent person who is fully sovereign over all of His creation. Meanwhile, human beings and the rest of creation are completely dependent on Him. Without God's providence and control, all things would perish. Within the framework of His providence, God actively carries out His will to fulfill the divine purpose. This study is motivated by the importance of understanding how divine action and human responsibility work synergistically, especially in the narrative of the Book of Joshua. This study aims to examine the relationship between God's providence and human responsibility theologically and narratively, and examine its implications for the understanding of contemporary Christian faith. It uses a qualitative approach with theological and narrative analysis methods, which allow for an in-depth exploration of the text of the Book of Joshua in its historical and theological context. The results show that God's providence does not negate the role of humans, but rather invites people to be actively involved in His plan. God's promises in the Book of Joshua were fulfilled through the concrete actions of the obedient and believing people of Israel. Thus, the synergy between God's sovereignty and human responsibility is key in understanding how God's plan of salvation is carried out. This narrative affirms that true faith is always manifested in action, and that human participation is not only essential, but also desired by God in His covenant relationship.

Abstract

The era of disruption, marked by the acceleration of digital technology and globalization, has significantly transformed the way humans interact and build social relationships. While digital technology, including social media, facilitates fast and broad communication, it also presents risks such as rising individualism and social alienation. This study aims to analyze the meaning and urgency of true friendship as reflected in Ecclesiastes 4:9–10 and to evaluate its relevance in addressing social challenges in the digital disruption era. The research employed a qualitative method using an exegetical approach and literature review. The findings reveal that although digital technology enhances virtual connectivity, it cannot replace the need for emotional closeness and meaningful interpersonal engagement. Quality friendship provides essential emotional and spiritual support in navigating modern life pressures. The conclusion of this study emphasizes the need for Christian communities to build relationships grounded in love, loyalty, and honesty. By balancing the use of digital technology with meaningful face-to-face interactions and placing God at the center of relationships, individuals can live a more holistic and harmonious life.

Abstract

This research discusses the concept of God in the three major religions of Islam, Christianity and Hinduism, highlighting the differences and similarities in their theological teachings. Islam emphasizes the concept of Tawhid, which teaches the absolute oneness of God without partners. Christianity introduces the concept of the Trinity, which is one God in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Meanwhile, Hinduism has the concept of Brahman as the ultimate reality that is formless, but can be manifested in various deities, including the Trimurti (Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva). This research uses a qualitative study method with a comparative theological approach, which aims to understand how the three religions define God as well as their doctrinal and philosophical implications. The main sources used include the holy books of each religion, namely the Qur’an, the Bible, and the Vedas, as well as related academic studies. Through this research, it is hoped to provide a broader understanding of the differences and common ground of the concept of God in the three religions as well as the importance of interfaith dialogue in building tolerance and social harmony.

Abstract

This study offers a comprehensive exegesis of 2 Corinthians 5:17, a key verse in Paul's theology concerning the transformation brought about by the gospel. Although traditional interpretations tend to limit the new creation (kainē ktisis) to individual (anthropological) transformation, the main argument of this study is that the concept should be understood multidimensionally, which also includes eschatological (cosmological) and communal (ecclesiological) dimensions. Using an integrated exegetical approach (historical-critical, grammatical-lexical, and intertextual), this study shows that the new creation is a cosmic reality inaugurated by Christ that is first realized in believers and then manifested in the Church community. A lexical analysis of the term kainē shows that this transformation is an act of divine qualitative creation, not merely an improvement in human morality. The results obtained in this study confirm that becoming a new creation is a grace that binds believers to the death and resurrection of Christ (ἐν Χριστῷ) and has strong pastoral implications. The new creation is motivated to engage in the mission of reconciliation, to continually experience renewal of mind, and to maintain a life of spiritual discipline in grateful response to its new identity.

Abstract

This article explores the theological and spiritual meaning of Jesus’ statement, I am the light of the world (John 8:12), through a historical-grammatical exegesis approach. The study highlights the historical context of Jesus' declaration, namely the Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot), where He presented Himself as the fulfillment of light symbolism in Jewish tradition and Messianic prophecies. An in-depth analysis of the Greek text reveals the linguistic power of the ἐγώ εἰμι (ego eimi) claim affirming His divinity, as well as the οὐ μὴ (ou mē) promise guaranteeing absolute freedom from darkness and the gift of the light of life. The findings demonstrate that John 8:12 shifts the focus of Christian faith from legalism to a personal relationship with Christ as the living God. The article also discusses its theological and spiritual relevance, affirming Jesus as the source of guidance, certainty, and meaning in facing life’s darkness.

Abstract

This article discusses cross-cultural mission communication from a socio-theological perspective. In the context of globalisation and cultural diversity, the church is required to convey the message of the Gospel in a relevant manner without compromising theological truth. This study uses a qualitative method based on literature review to explore contextual theology approaches in mission communication. The findings indicate that effective mission communication must consider the social and cultural context of the recipients. Contextual theology, as explained by Stephen Bevans through his six models of approach, serves as an important framework for the church in developing contextual and transformative communication strategies. Additionally, the case study in Simalungun demonstrates that the success of mission efforts depends on the ability to understand local social structures, language, and symbols. Reinterpretation of meaning is also a natural part of cross-cultural communication that requires a theological response.Contextual theological education that is responsive to social change has proven to support impactful mission communication. In the digital age, the church must develop a theology of communication that can address technological challenges while maintaining spiritual depth. In conclusion, cross-cultural mission communication requires a dialogical, reflective, and contextual approach. The integration of theological understanding and social sensitivity is the key to mission success in an ever-changing world.

Abstract

This article aims to examine and formulate a consistent church stance on the issue of same-sex marriage, a topic that has generated significant debate among Christians. Using an in-depth library study, this research analyzes a variety of relevant theological texts and resources, all obtained from reliable library references. We explore the doctrinal foundations, beginning with the Old Testament creation narrative, which fundamentally establishes marriage as a unique bond between a man and a woman. This study also extends to the New Testament, where the writings of the Apostle Paul, particularly Romans 1:26-27 and 1 Corinthians 6, explicitly and consistently condemn homosexual practices. The results of this research clearly demonstrate that the Bible, in both the Old and New Testaments, consistently rejects and does not recognize same-sex marriage as a legitimate relationship. Therefore, the conclusion drawn is that a church faithful to and aligned with the biblical foundation must firmly reject the legalization or celebration of same-sex marriage. This rejection is based on the deep conviction that the church cannot set aside the teachings of Scripture to accommodate contemporary cultural norms but must adhere to God-revealed truth as the foundation of its ethics and doctrine.
