Abstract

To analyze the security practices of Higher Education Institutions in the province of Ilocos Norte, Philippines during the surge of the COVID-19 disease is the objective of this study. The researcher used qualitative methodology using action research design through the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) approach. Study participants were members of security management of three HEIs selected thru purposive sampling. The result of the study showed that the security management of the Institutions guarantees the security of all stakeholders in all areas of security covered in the study by complying with all COVID-19 health and security protocols. However, the upsurge of the COVID-19 pandemic causes dangerous threats to the institutions' areas of security. It can be concluded that the SWOT of Higher Educations Institutions' security practices is diverse on all areas of security. There are challenges that the security management of HEIs encountered during the outbreak of COVID-19. Keywords: COVID-19, security practices, higher education institution, pandemic.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v12.i3.202235

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine the role of the argument-based science inquiry (ABSI) learning model in improving scientific argumentation skills. Methods: The quasi-experimental method used in this study was a one group pretest posttest design. The population in this study were high school students in the city of Bandung with a sample of two classes selected by cluster random sampling with a total of 100 students. Findings: The results of the study confirm that the ABSI learning model has a very significant effect on students' scientific argumentation skills. The improvement can be seen in the depth, organization, and accuracy scientific argumentation.  Conclusion: Students' argumentation skills increase because they are trained to organize thoughts completely, scientifically, and systematically. Keywords: argument-Based Science Inquiry (ABSI) learning model, Scientific argumentation ability, critical thinking ability.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v12.i3.202223

Abstract

Flipped Classroom Learning: Mathematical Creative Thinking Skills Basen on Mathematical Resilience Using Augmented Reality. Objectives: This study aims to determine the effect of the augmented reality (AR)-based flipped classroom learning (FCL) model on mathematical creative thinking skills (MCTS) in terms of mathematical resilience (MR). Methods: This research is a quasi-experimental quantitative research. The population of this study were students of SMAN 105 Jakarta with the research sample being the experimental class students and the control class selected purposively. Data analysis in this study used the Mann Whitney U Test, Cohen's d Effect Size Test and Spearman Correlation to determine the difference. Findings: Subjects on experimental group have mathematical creative thinking skills that are superior to subjects with conventional mathematics learning. Conclusion: The AR-based FCL model has a significant effect on the MCTS owned by subjects. In addition, KBKM has a significant relationship with MR. Keywords: flipped classroom learning, mathematical creative thinking skill, mathematical resilience, augmented reality.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v12.i3.202217

Abstract

Profile and Level of Performance of Elementary School Heads in Leading Strategically: Basis for the Development of Policy Recommendations. Objectives: This study determined the profile of elementary school heads in relation to their level of performance in leading strategically covering School Year 2021-2022. Methods: Descriptive-correlational research design with survey using researcher-made questionnaire as its research instrument was used. Frequency count, percentage weighted mean and chi-square for association were used as statistical tools in the tabulation, analysis and interpretation of data gathered.  Findings: The computed chi square on the relationships between the profile and the level of performance of the school heads along the 7 key result areas in leading strategically ranges from 0.03 to 9.38 which did not exceed the tabular values at 2 and 4 degrees of freedom and tested at .05 level of significance. Conclusion and Recommendation: There are no significant relationships between the profile of the school heads and their level of performance along the 7 key result areas of the first domain of the national standards for school heads. The proposed policy recommendations on improving school heads’ profile, career stage and strategic leadership can be adopted and implemented upon review and approval of the higher authorities in the Department of Education. Keywords: school heads, leading strategically, professional development, standards for school heads, policy recommendation.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v12.i3.202234
