Abstract

Do Health and Safety, Readiness and Preparedness, and Support and Opportunities Predict Teaching Motivation? Objectives: The study determined the relationship of three motivational factors (Health and Safety; Readiness and Preparedness in Distance Learning; and Support and Opportunities) to the teaching motivation in the new normal of junior high school teachers. Methods: Regression analysis was used to measure the significant relationships among the three motivational factors and teaching motivation of 204 (34% male and 66% female) respondents who answered the online survey. Findings: The motivational factors such as health and safety (????=0.258; p-value=0.003) and readiness and preparedness in distance learning (????=0.217; p-value=0.024) revealed that these are significant predictors of teaching motivation. Conclusion: Even though the three motivational factors have a direct positive relationship to teachers’ level of motivation, it was revealed that the health and safety motivational factors result in the highest need of emphasis to level up a teacher's motivation to continue teaching. Keywords: teaching motivation, teachers’ motivational factors, health and safety, distance learning, support and opportunities.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v12.i1.202208

Abstract

Professional Development Vis-à-vis Teaching Effectiveness of Public Secondary Mathematics Teachers. Objectives: This study examined the relationship between professional development and students' perceptions of mathematics teachers' teaching effectiveness in one of the largest public high schools in Eastern Visayas, Philippines. Methods: Descriptive and correlational research designs were employed to address the study's objectives. The participants included 30 mathematics teachers and 314 randomly picked students from all the classes handled by the mathematics teachers. An adopted survey questionnaire collected the data on Teaching Effectiveness and Questionnaire Checklist. Findings: Results revealed a moderately significant positive relationship between teaching experience and participation in professional development activities, and mathematics teachers' commitment. The result suggests that commitment to the teaching profession necessitates teaching experience. The study likewise indicated a significant positive relationship between mathematics teachers' professional development activities and teaching for independent learning.  Conclusion: Exposure to such professional activities is an essential factor that influences teachers' development, sense of responsibility to their profession, and ability to assist their students in becoming independent learners. Abstract

Improving Teachers’ Organizational Citizenship Behavior Based on Emotional Intelligence and Psychological Capital. Objectives: This study investigates the effect of emotional intelligence on teachers’ psychological capital (PsyCap) and organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) and how PsyCap mediates emotional intelligence in affecting OCB. Methods: A questionnaire on the Likert rating scale collected data through the survey methods from 250 junior high school teachers in Indonesia. Data analysis uses path analysis supported by descriptive and correlational analysis. Path analysis was performed by Lisrel 8.80, meanwhile descriptive and correlational analysis by SPSS 22. Finding: Emotional intelligence had a significant effect on teachers’ OCB, directly and indirectly, mediated by PsyCap. Besides mediating the effect of emotional intelligence on teachers’ OCB, PsyCap also has a direct effect strongly than emotional intelligence. Hence, it shows the cruciality PsyCap for teachers’ OCB. Conclusion: A model regarding the effect of emotional intelligence on teachers’ OCB, mediated by PsyCap, was confirmed. Accordingly, the researchers and practitioners can discuss, adapt, and adopt an empirical model to improve teachers’ OCB based on emotional intelligence and PsyCap in various researchs fields in the future. Keyword: emotional intelligence, psychological capital, organizational citizenship behavior.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v13.i1.202305

Abstract

Teaching Indonesian for Foreigners Online: Pre-service English teachers Constraints. Objectives: Thus, the research aimed to know the constraints of teaching Indonesian for foreigners online. Methods: The researcher employed qualitative research. The research sample was  20 pre-service teachers who taught Indonesian for foreigners in online mode. The total foreigners were about twenty.The research used semi-structured interview to gather the data. Then, to analyze the data, several stages were done namely data reduction, data display, and conclusion. Findings: The result showed that in the pre-activity, the teacher did not know how to master the online application. Besides, the teacher was nervous to teach foreigners because the teacher was not usual to teach foreigner with different cultural background. In main activity, the teacher found that students were bored and also lack of Indonesian skill, like grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary. In the post-activity, the teacher did not know how to do online assessment for teaching indonesian. Conclusion: In short, the teachers’ constratins were existed in the teaching Indonesian for foreigners in online mode. Abstract

Action Research Training: Its Effect on the Research Attitude, Knowledge, and Performance of Teachers. Objectives:  This study aimed to determine the effect of action research training on the attitude, knowledge, and performance of teachers in research.  Methods:  This study used the mixed methods sequential explanatory design. Findings:  Action research training that involved collaboration, coaching, and research support from mentors did not significantly improve the attitude and knowledge in research, but was effective in enhancing the performance of teachers in action research proposal preparation. Moreover, the participants claimed that the action research training was useful, effective, and transformative.  Conclusions:   Training, collaboration, support from mentors, favorable attitude, and knowledge contributed to the increased performance of teachers in action research.     Keywords: attitude in research, knowledge in research, performance in research, teacher-researchers, action research training.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v13.i2.202314

Abstract

The Impact of Education Setup Towards Teachers' Capability and Development Priority Objectives: This study used a mixed research design to assess the performances of the Senior High School Physical Education and Health teacher's capability and professional development priorities. Methods: The study used qualitative and quantitative data collection methods. The survey data on teachers' capability and priority development needs were analyzed using simple statistics such as mean and standard deviation. Following quantitative data analysis, qualitative data collection involved transcribing and analyzing the data. Findings: Teachers demonstrated a strong capability in assessment and reporting and plus factors. The identified priority development needs were in content knowledge and pedagogy, learning environment and diversity of learners, assessment and reporting, and plus factors. Besides, facilitating learning, insufficient training, and low standards for addressing students' specific needs. It negatively impacts teachers' confidence, increasing job frustration and affecting their teaching performance. Conclusion: The new education setup challenges teachers' capability and increases the need for development due to limited knowledge and skills. How Elementary School Teachers Assess Students’ Affective Domain in the Classroom during Distance Learning?: A Phenomenological Study Objectives: This study aims to describe how elementary school teachers assess students' affectiveness, especially in social studies learning during distance learning. Methods: This research is phenomenology study, data collection techniques using interviews and document studies. Subject 5 elementary school teacher participants. The data analysis technique uses qualitative data analysis. Findings: The teacher conducts an affective assessment during social studies learning on student behavior, there still a problem, the teacher cannot monitor students directly so that the affective assessment in learning cannot be carried out optimally. However, affective assessment provides the benefit that the teacher can direct good attitudes and character to students. Abstract

The Principal Management in Improving Geography Teachers Performance at Public High School in Banda Aceh City. Objectives: The purpose of this research is to understand the program, implementation, evaluation, and obstacles faced by the principal in improving teachers’performance. Methods: This research was conducted by using descriptive method with qualitative approach. Data collection were conducted through interviews, observations, and documentation studies. The subjects of this research are principal, vice principal, head of subject teacher association, and geography teachers. The analysis data were conducted through data reduction, data display, draw a conclusion, and data verification. Findings: The results of this research shows (1) the planning of principal program was arranged at the beginning of school year by school development team and have been well documented. (2) the implementation of program started by giving instruction at the beginning of semester; (3) the evaluation was arranged at the end of semester and made as a follow up in determine the following program; and (4) the obstacles faced by principal in improving teachers’ performance is the lack of teachers understanding to attempts the improvement of teachers performance.Keyword: pincipal management, geography teacher, public high school.DOI: 10.23960/jpp.v10.i2.202007

Abstract

The Correlations among English Teachers’ TPACK, TISE, ITOE, and Teaching Implementation. Objectives: This research is correlational research that aimed to find out the correlations among Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK), Technology Integration Self-Efficacy (TISE), Instructional Technology Outcome Expectation (ITOE), and Teaching Implementation. Methods: TPACK-EFL Survey and Motivation of Technology Integration in Education Scale Questionnaires were distributed to 60 students of the English language teacher professional education program at Sriwijaya University in the academic year 2018/2019. Findings: The findings of this research showed that the students have a high understanding level of TPACK, high level of TISE, high level of ITOE, and good in teaching implementation, and there are positive significant correlations among TPACK, TISE, ITOE, and teaching implementation. Conclusion: Not only the technical equipment but also the qualified teachers who understand how to advance the ICT are very needed. Abstract

How Improving the Resilience of Special Education School Teachers in Forming Students’ Positive Characters. This research aims to determine and analyze the process of improving the resilience of special education school teachers in forming positive characters of students at SLB Negeri 1 Bantul Yogyakarta. In addition, this research is also to determine the forms of improving the resilience of teachers at SLB Negeri 1 Bantul Yogyakarta, and to determine the supporting and inhibiting factors of the process of improving the resilience of the special education school teachers in forming positive character of students at the school. The research approach used is a phenomenological study. The research subjects were determined by the researcher along with recommendations from SLB Negeri 1 Bantul Yogyakarta. The data were collected using data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews, and documentation. The data obtained were analyzed using phenomenological study data analysis techniques. The results show that the longer the teacher work and teach the students with special needs, the more comfortable and loving the teachers are with their jobs. This is indicating the process of self-resilience improvement. To form this self-resilience, the teachers need to perform several efforts, one of them is by pursuing divine connection with God Almighty, this is proven to lighten their workload. The supporting factors in the process of improving the resilience of teachers at SLB Negeri 1 Bantul Yogyakarta are the teachers themselves, students, and social support. Meanwhile, the inhibiting factors are the students and their parents. Keywords: self-resilience, special education schools, positive characters.
