Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is a positive and significant correlation between interest in reading with the ability to write complex procedure texts in Indonesian subjects in Grade VII students of SMP Negeri Sumber Rejo, Musi Rawas Regency. The research method uses a simple correlation method. Data collection techniques using questionnaires and tests. The population in this study was 81 students, sampling from the entire population divided by the number of students multiplied by the prediction set at 10%, then obtained 45 students. Analysis of the data used is the Pearson Product Moment Test. The results showed that there was a positive and significant relationship between interest in reading with the ability to write procedural texts in Grade VII students of SMP Negeri Sumber Rejo, Musi Rawas Regency. This is evidenced by the correlation coefficient of 0.01 smaller than 0.05 at a significant level of 5%. This proves that at a significant level ? = 0.05 or at the level of confidence of 95% there is a significant relationship between interest in reading and the ability to write complex procedural texts in SMP Negeri Sumber Rejo, Musi Rawas Regency.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to describe the assertive, directive, expressive, commissive, and declarative illocutionary speech acts on the December 2018 Mata Najwa talk show program. The research method used is descriptive qualitative method. Data collection techniques using documentation techniques obtained from the Mata Najwa video program December 2018 edition taken using a handphone. Data analysis techniques are done by reducing data, presenting data, interpreting data, and conclusions. Test the validity of the data by validating pragmatic experts and member checks. The type of illocutionary speech acts in the Mata Najwa talk show program mostly use expressive speech acts that contain congratulations, thanks, praise, and criticism. Assertive speech acts aim to say, report, and mention. The directive speech acts contain speech of asking, asking, demanding, suggesting, and opposing. Commissive speech acts contain speech promising, swearing, and threatening. Then, declarative speech acts contain speech deciding, canceling, prohibiting, permitting, and forgiving. From the results of this study, it shows that in making talk show programs it is better to use variations in illocutionary speech acts and the most dominant percentage of their use should use expressive speech acts so that events are more interesting.

Abstract

Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan tindak tutur lokusi, ilokusi, dan perlokusi dalam iklan layanan masyarakat yang bertemakan Covid-19 pada media televisi nasional. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah observasi dan dokumentasi. Teknik analisis data menggunakan langkah-langkah: (1) observasi, (2) transkripsi data, (3) pengkodean data, (4) identifikasi data, (5) klasifikasi data, (6) menganalisis data, (7) menarik kesimpulan. Tuturan lokusi bertujuan untuk memberikan informasi, menyatakan, menyampaikan pendapat, mengucapkan salam, dan menjelaskan. Tuturan ilokusi bertujuan untuk mengajak atau menyuruh pemirsa menjaga prokes dalam menghadapi pandemi. Tuturan ini terdiri dari asertif, direktif, komisif, dan ekspresif. Bentuk tuturan asertif bertujuan untuk menjelaskan, menyatakan, dan mengusulkan. Tuturan direktif digunakan untuk memerintah, memberi nasihat, bertanya, dan menyetujui. Tuturan komisif digunakan untuk menawarkan. Sedangkan tuturan ekspresif digunakan untuk mengucapkan terima kasih, mengucapkan salam, dan memuji. Tuturan perlokusi selain berguna untuk menyuruh mitra tutur, secara psikologis berguna merubah pola pikir masyarakat. Tuturan ini bertujuan untuk menimbulkan efek berupa rasa takut, membesarkan hati, meyakinkan, mempengaruhi, menganjurkan, dan mengilhami.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the reading ability of class VII students of SMPN 3 Rejang Lebong. This research method is a quantitative descriptive method. The population in this study were class VII SMPN 3 Rejang Lebong with the research sample being class VII E and VII H which were taken by random sampling. Data collection technique is done by testing technique. Students are tested with objective questions in the form of 4 discourses and each discourse consists of 3-6 questions. The results showed that the reading ability of class VII students of SMPN 3 Rejang Lebong regarding the text of the observation report was seen from several aspects, namely the structural aspect obtained an average value of 96.4 classified as very good criteria, aspects of linguistic elements obtained an average value of 72 including good criteria , aspects of the main idea of paragraphs obtained an average value of 72 including good criteria, aspects of the conclusion of paragraphs obtained an average value of 70.5 including good criteria, and aspects of analysis obtained an average value of 78 including good criteria. Overall, the aspect of students' reading ability with an average score is good, between 70-79% and each student has a different understanding of texts one to four.

Abstract

Indonesian is studied and used as a language in ASEAN because Indonesian is the lingua franca. In WordPress posts, the Indonesian language ranks third after English and Spanish. However, the attitude of native Indonesian speakers is still negative, so the Indonesian language UN scores (30% do not pass) are lower than the English national examination scores (only 5% do not pass). The purpose of this research is to describe the tendency of using Indonesian in ASEAN. The research data is in the form of information about the use of Indonesian in ASEAN. The data were collected online from members of 5 (international) communities, such as MLI, KSLI (alumni), AMCCA, and lecturers who had assisted students during internships through SEA teachers, SEAMEO, and youth exchanges with partner universities. This research data analysis using the Delphi technique and inter-subjectivity test. The findings are based on the panelist reliability test with a value of 0.7441 greater than 0.70, it is concluded that the model is consistent. Besides, the model reliability test was also carried out, and the result was that the value of r11 = 0.874 was greater than 0.70, so the model was reliable. The tendency in the use of Indonesian in ASEAN carries native speakers of conditioning results (nurture nativism) with the tendency as mentioned above is valid and reliable.

Abstract

This study explores the effectiveness of Themed English Teaching Materials, specifically integrating Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) and Problem-Based Learning (PBL) within a TAGANA (short for Taruna Siaga Bencana, or Disaster Preparedness and Response Volunteer Team) theme to bolster junior high school students motivation and proficiency in English. Addressing the need for innovative educational methods in English teaching, this research fills an existing gap by developing and assessing TAGANA-themed materials that incorporate a HOTS-PBL approach. The study carefully selected 24 English teachers from Bengkulu, Indonesia, using purposive sampling to ensure diverse representation in qualifications, experience, and teaching methods. This study evaluates the materials content validity and instructional efficacy using the five-stage ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) model. The results show that incorporating HOTS and PBL into thematic teaching materials greatly enhances students English proficiency and motivation, especially with themes like TAGANA. Expert validation affirmed the strong content validity of the materials, and data from both the experimental and control groups demonstrated significant improvements in learning outcomes. The integration of HOTS and PBL into thematic teaching materials provides valuable insights into global educational practises. By fostering students higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills and incorporating the theme of TAGANA, this approach offers a progressive methodology for English education. This model makes significant contributions to educational practises globally.

Abstract

Criticizing others research in discussion section of research article is important to show the writers confidence in presenting the result of their research. However, it has not really noted by Indonesian writers. This recent research is aimed at finding the use of ACUs as the strategies to refer to others result in discussion section of research articles write in Bahasa Indonesia and in English by international writers in the field of linguistics and literature. 40 RADs were analysed to find out the ACUs used in RADs and the linguistics features of each units. The analysis is based on the Academics Conflict Units framework proposed by Sadeghie and Alinasab : 2020. The result revealed that the ACUs used in the RADs is different in number between the same field of study in different language used. In linguistics study the occurrences is quite similar in number but different in the type of ACUs used. Interestingly in literature study, Indonesian writers used more ACUs than international writers but both Indonesian and International writers only used Proposing Claims as the strategy to present their findings. It might due the different research area and topic of each research. These findings offer theoretical and pedagogical insight into the academic writing (especially research articles writing) instruction for Indonesian. Since the corpus of the data were only 40 RADs, further research with larger corpus of the data will be beneficial to get general pattern of ACUs used in RADs.

Abstract

University students learning English as a Foreign Language (EFL) often struggle with speaking anxiety, limited practice opportunities, and performance pressure. This paper explores the challenges and attitudes of EFL university students towards Project-Based Learning (PBL) implemented in a speaking class at the tertiary level in the Indonesian context. The study included 35 university students from a public university in Indonesia. The researchers employed a mixed-methods approach to examine students' attitudes and challenges. Data were gathered through a questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. The analysis of the questionnaire revealed predominantly positive attitudes towards PBL. The interviews uncovered challenges, such as lack of confidence, pronunciation difficulties, time constraints, heavy workload, and performance anxiety. Despite these challenges, the students had positive attitudes, emphasising PBL's potential for enhancing speaking skills. The study recommends targeted interventions to address lingering challenges and refine PBL implementation.

Abstract

The integration of digital activities into language learning has transformed traditional instructional methods, increasing engagement and interactivity. This study explores the experiences and perceptions of fourth-semester students in the English Education program at State Islamic University Fatmawati Sukarno Bengkulu regarding the use of digital tools for language acquisition. Employing a qualitative research design, the study investigates students’ evaluations of digital resources, their perceived benefits, and the challenges they encounter. Findings reveal that students frequently utilize digital tools such as educational videos, online reading platforms, and social media to enhance vocabulary acquisition, listening comprehension, and interactive language practice. Digital activities, particularly those incorporating gamification, are perceived as engaging and motivating. However, students also identify key challenges, including a lack of structured guidance, limited feedback, and technological barriers such as poor internet connectivity. While digital tools effectively support receptive skills (listening and reading), their impact on productive skills (speaking and writing) is limited without instructor support. This study contributes to research on digital learning by highlighting both its pedagogical advantages and constraints. The findings emphasize the need for structured pedagogical interventions, such as blended learning models that integrate digital tools with instructor-led guidance and feedback. Addressing technological barriers is also crucial to ensuring equitable access to digital learning resources. Future research should examine the long-term effects of digital learning on productive language skills and explore strategies for optimizing digital learning outcomes. By understanding students’ experiences, educators and institutions can refine digital learning approaches to enhance engagement and language acquisition.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mendeskripsikan bentuk campur kode dan mendeskripsikan faktor yang menyebabkan terjadinya campur kode pada penyiar di radio Setiawana 97, 2FM Kecamatan Argamakmur Kabupaten Bengkulu Utara. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif. Teknik yang digunakan dalam pengumpulan data di dalam penelitian ini adalah teknik rekam dan teknik wawancara. Langkah-langkah yang dilakukan dalam menganalisis data ada lima tahap yaitu pentranskripsikan data, penyeleksian data, pengklasifikasiandata, penafsiran dan penyimpulan data. Dalam penelitian ini ditemukan adanya bentuk campur kode yang berbentuk kata berupa kata nomina dasar, nomina turunan, verba dasar, verba turunan, ajektiva dasar, numeralia dasar, konjungsi, reduplikasi dan kategori fatis. campur kode yang berbentuk frasa berupa frasa nomina, verba, reduplikasi, ajektiva dan preposisi. Dan campur kode yang berbentuk klausa, serta faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi  terjadinya campur kode pada bahasa yang digunakan oleh penyiar radio pada saat melakukan siaran. Hasil analisis data ditemukan bentuk campur kode yang berasal dari enam bahasa yaitu, BKL, BING, BJW, BPM, BAR, BGR. Bentuk campur kode berupa kata misalnya nak, lagunyo, siapo, request, urung, break, Bentuk campur kode berupa frasa misalnya jugo kksnyo, mintak lagunyo, idak ado,  dan bentuk campur kode berupa klausa misalnya request samo kawan kito, punyo mete tapi kalo misalnyo,  misalnyo idak ado mete ko. Faktor-faktor  yang menyebabkan terjadinya campur kode yakni (1) kebiasaan penutur, (2) pengaruh lingkungan tempat tinggal, (3) konteks situasi agar lebih santai dan akrab dengan pendengar, (4) menggunakan istilah yang lebih populer agar terlihat lebih keren, (5) untuk membangkitkan  rasa humor, dan (6) latar belakang suku / asal penutur. Kata kunci: campur kode, bahasa, penyiar, radio setiawana 97,2 FM
