Abstract

Observing teachers especially experienced teachers can be a difficult task. Nevertheless, observation is an effective means to evaluate the effectiveness of teaching and learning practice of any course or program. Peer observation is one of the effective ways with relative ease. This paper discusses the findings of a study that involves three ESL (English as a Second Language) teachers at Changlon Secondary School in Kedah Malaysia. This study incorporates the use of Flanders? Interactional Analysis Category (FIAC) for Teacher Support Team (TST) program between Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) and the school. The paper begins first by explaining the involvement of the teachers and their feelings about peer observation. This paper then highlights teachers? feelings and perceptions towards FIAC as an alternative tool to observe and improve teaching effectiveness and how its use creates an awareness of the kind of teaching that takes place in their classrooms. The dogma of learner centered versus teachercentered teaching was evidently discussed. The paper concludes by providing ways to make the classrooms more learnercentred as opposed to the current practice of the teachers which are more teacher centered.

Abstract

The aims of this research are to know how to design and how to implement cooperative learning model, Team Assisted Individualization (TAI) through contextual approach in enhancing student's learning achievement of Economic Mathematics course on Economic Education Program FKIP UNS in academic year 2009/2010. Subjects were students attending Economic Mathematics course in the first semester. Data were collected in the form of information about student's learning outcomes including the scores of exercises and competency tests. Data were collected from various sources which include: (1) The informants, the teaching team and the students, (2) Places and events that were taking place at teaching learning process, and (3) documents including curriculum, syllabus, lesson plans, learning contracts and assessment books. Techniques used in collecting data are (1) Interviews (2) Observations (3) Test and (4) Documentation. The result of the research revealed that students showed liveliness and increasing learning achievement. Most students dare to express their opinions and become critic. 25 students (81%) had increased their skill in team collaboration, and four students (13%) showed adequate improvement. Besides, the result shows that the implementation of the action on the second cycle has been successful indicated by at least 80% of students have a minimum score, 70.

Abstract

Responding to the global challenge, education is expected to make an effort of service quality assurance of education (Quality Assurance) and produce graduate students who fulfill the standard. Implementation of quality assurance by higher education at university will be able to give the best academic service for the students. The result of the research is to inform that there are three study programs that have implemented quality assurance: Economics Education, Geography education and Mechanical Engineering Education. However, there are 10 steps in quality assurance which have not been already implemented. Reward and punishment have not been implemented for the lecturer yet.

Abstract

This study aims to determine: (1) the influence of divergent thinking training that is designed in a question and imaginative tasks, to improve the creativity of children. (2) To determine the influence of divergent thinking training is packaged in a question and imaginative tasks, can provide the atmosphere of excitement as the atmosphere of playing in children. The experiment was conducted in kindergarten Aisyiah Premulung Laweyan Surakarta in Academic Year 2009/2010. The subject of this study was student class B shares of 30 children. According to the study design or design of this study include Pre Experimental Design, also called quasi experiment, with the pattern: Pre-test and Post-test Design Group One as a data collection technique using keativitas test tech-niques to test the first hypothesis to test, while the second hypothesis using a technique observations with the instruments of observation and completed documentation form (photo). Based on statistical analysis to test the first hypothesis got result to> tt = 4.651> 2.76 (db.29), this means that the hypothesis that divergent thinking training that is designed in the questions and imaginative tasks, to improve the creativity of children TK, verified. Furthermore, to test the second hypothesis, based on the observation (teacher notes) and documentation (photos) records of activities, it can be concluded that divergent thinking pelafihan packaged in a question and imaginative tasks, proved to give the atmosphere of excitement as the atmosphere of playing in kindergarten.

Abstract

The objectives of research are: (1) to encourage the students history  of study program to  be more active in attending the lecture, (2) to improve the lecturer's capability in arranging the lesson plan, (3) to improve the lecturer's capability in implementing the learning procedure, and (4) to improve the lecturer's capability in managing the class. This research was a classroom action research. This research consists of actions aiming at improving the quality of system and practices within the system. This research is reflective in nature, aiming at improving the rational establishment of the action taken. This research was conducted in two cycles. In order to improve the learning quality, the researcher takes some measures: discussion of history learning effectiveness, discussion of class management, RPP preparation practice, peer teaching, and the use of group investigation learning model. From such measures, it can be seen that the learning quality improves from a cycle to another. This is reflected from: the increasing capability of the lecturer in preparing RPP, the increasing capability of the lecturer in implementing the learning procedure, and the increasing capability of the lecturer in managing the class. These improvements also lead to the improvement of students' learning activity. In addition, the capability of managing the class also results in the improvement of learning circumstance.

Abstract

This paper discusses about developing characteristics of being a citizen. The aim of this paper is to develop personality of citizens who are fully participating, competent, responsible, and having commitment to the values and objectives of the state in accordance with the vision of Indonesia in 2025. This can be done by developing a national perspective, which is fostering a sense of nationality through the study of civics education learning, the actualization of nationality through civics curriculum changes, and actualization of national spirit through the development of civics education materials.

Abstract

This study aims to know the children's insight toward the existence of school as educational institution and to improve their critical awareness toward the real meaning of education. This study uses descriptive qualitative method for identifying the meaning of school, the impact of that meaning and the implications for the development of the educational system in Indonesia. The results show that school, for children, is defined as the process of knowledge transferring, hence it will be useful to seek jobs. This concept is also supported with schooling-oriented thinking. It means that children have to go to their school in order to meet their duty toward their parents and country. In boarder sense, school (or schooling) works as the representation of socio-cultural phenomenon because it contains such policies and programs issued politically in which the act of those is forced and dominated by the leaders. The effect of these situations is that the children lack awareness of the truly meaning of schooling. It implies that the school children are less good in daily life behaving and less in paying attention and caring of their surrounding environment. Based on those arguments, we need to train the children to act critically and improve their critical awareness so that the school children have good morality and attitude that make them useful for the existence of our nation.

Abstract

This research tries out to implement Biology Science Learning Using Value Approach to enhance student's achievement and attitude by using experimental research. This learning process is part of Integrated Science Learning Models. It is an innovative effort in education which based on experiences since 1999. Methodology of its learning which applies value approach is based on understanding of practice values, so that its learning has multiple values, that give reinforcement to mastery concepts, and other life values including cognitive, psychomotor, and affective aspects. Its purpose is not only to enhance student's learning result, but also change student's attitude into human being. Results of the research conclude that biology learning which applies five values enhance concept mastery on Biology, and change student's attitude (Experiment Group is higher than Control Group). The learning process can support implementation of KTSP and National Education Goal that is forming Indonesian human being who has intellectual, skills, and enhancing faith and obedience to God.

Abstract

The objectives of the research is to know: (1) The knowledge and the confidence of the young generation on Indonesian language; (2) The valuation to the young generation on Indonesian language; (3) The inclination of the young generation to take measures in using Indonesia language; (4) The exist and unexist of the influence of gender variable, the education level and the education level and the back ground of mother language on the attitudes of young generation to Indonesian language. The sample research is 300 young generation, consist of 60 students of SMK, 120 students of SMU, 120 the university students from government and private universities. Which was taken by multiplestage cluster random sampling techniques. Based on the data analysis descriptively, it can be concluded: (1) The young generation have positive confidences on Indonesian language; (2) The young generation have positive valuation on Indonesian language; (3) The young generation have an inclination to take positive measures by using Indonesian language. While from the result of the data analysis by using T-examination technique, it can be concluded: (1) There is a gender influence on the language attitudes from the young generation; (2) There is an influence of the education level on the language attitudes from the young generation; (3) There is an influence on the back ground of mother language on the young generation attitude.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to know the correlation between the academies ability, achievement motivation, and the performance of candidate of elementary school teachers. The research was a correlation study using multiple correlations and multiple regression analysis to test hypotheses. The population was the fourth grade students of PGSD program of FKIP UNS in the year 2007/2008. The sample used was 100 students. The data were obtained by using likert scale model questionnaires, test, and portfolio. The result of research shows that there is a positive correlation between (1) the academic ability and the performance of candidate of elementary school teachers ( r = 0.297 p < 0.05), (2) achievement motivation the performance of candidate of elementary school teachers ( r = 221 p<0.05), and the academic ability and achievement motivation simultaneously, and the performance of candidate of elementary school teachers (R=0.404 p<0.05). The implication of this research is that in improving the performance of candidate of elementary school teachers, academic ability and achievement motivation, must be taken into consideration.
