Abstract

Introduction: Emergency Department is the main entry point for hospital services in providing first aid to patients. One of the common infections in hospitals is nosocomial infection. The success of controlling nosocomial infections in infusion procedures is not determined by advanced equipment but by the behavior of healthcare workers in properly caring for patients.. Objectives: This study aims to analyze the relationship between knowledge level and nurses' compliance with the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for Infusion Placement in the Emergency Department of RSU dr. H. Koesnadi Bondowoso.. Methods: The study was conducted in January 2016 at the Emergency Department of RSU dr. H. Koesnadi Bondowoso. A correlational design with a cross-sectional approach was used. The population consisted of all nurses in the Emergency Department, with a total sample of 18 participants, selected using total sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaires and observation sheets, then analyzed using SPSS "Spearman Rho" with a significance level of 5%. Results: The Spearman Rho test results at a 5% significance level (α) showed a P value of 0.001, concluding that p ≤ 0.05, so H1 is accepted, and Ho is rejected. This indicates a significant relationship between knowledge level and nurses' compliance with the SOP for Infusion Placement in the Emergency Department of RSU dr. H. Koesnadi Bondowoso. Conclusions: The findings demonstrate that nurses' knowledge is fundamental in adhering to the SOP for Infusion Placement, thereby preventing nosocomial infections.

Abstract

Introduction: Chemotherapy, while an effective cancer treatment, often brings significant side effects that can negatively impact patients' psychological well-being, including their self-concept. This issue is critical, as a disturbed self-concept may influence patients' overall health and their response to treatment. Objectives: This study aims to determine the relationship between the side effects of chemotherapy and self-concept disturbances in cancer patients. Methods: This research employed a descriptive correlational design using a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy in January 2016. Data collection used structured questionnaires measuring both the severity of chemotherapy side effects and the level of self-concept disturbance. The Chi-Square test was used for data analysis with a significance level of 5% (α = 0.05). Results: The majority of respondents (83%) experienced severe side effects of chemotherapy, and 67% of them showed negative disturbances in self-concept. The statistical test revealed a significant relationship between chemotherapy side effects and self-concept disturbance (p = 0.015), indicating that patients with more severe side effects tend to have more disturbed self-concepts. Conclusions: There is a significant relationship between the side effects of chemotherapy and self-concept disturbance among cancer patients. These findings highlight the importance of psychological support and counseling in cancer care to help patients maintain a positive self-concept during treatment.

Abstract

Introduction: Mycobacterium Tuberculosis germ resistance is a condition where Anti-Tuberculosis Drugs (OAT) are unable to kill Mycobacterium Tuberculosis germs. One type of resistance is Multidrug Resistant Tuberculosis. The consequences of being resistant to OAT are worsening health, increased costs, longer treatment, high rates of therapeutic failure and death.  Objectives: This study aims to analyse the effect of education about Multidrug-Resistant Tuberculosis (MDR-TB) with leaflet media on the level of knowledge of pulmonary tuberculosis patients at the Kanigaran Health Centre, Probolinggo City. Methods: This study used a Quasi-Experimental research design with a Pretest-Posttest with Control Group research design. The sample of this study was 60 people consisting of 30 Intervention groups and 30 Control groups with Purposive Sampling technique. Measurement of knowledge level using a questionnaire with 20 questionsThis study used the Wilcoxon test. Results: Pretest level of knowledge of respondents in the Intervention group in the Good category, namely 4 people (13.3%), posttest increased to 27 people (90.0%). Pretest level of knowledge of respondents in the Control group in the category of Less as many as 23 people (76.7%) and Posttest 24 people (80%). The Wilcoxone test found differences in Pre-test and Post-test knowledge in the Intervention and Control groups, namely P value 0.000 <0.05. Conclusions: There is an effect of education about Multidrug-Resistant Tuberculosis (MDR-TB) with leaflet media on the level of knowledge of pulmonary tuberculosis patients at Kanigaran Health Centre, Probolinggo City.

Abstract

Introduction:  Hypertension is a major global health concern, significantly increasing the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Various non-pharmacological interventions, such as relaxation techniques, have been explored to manage hypertension effectively. Listening to Quranic verses has been suggested as a relaxation method that may contribute to lowering blood pressure. However, empirical studies examining its effectiveness remain limited. Objectives:  This study aims to investigate the effect of listening to Quranic recitation as a relaxation technique on reducing blood pressure among hypertensive patients at Prajekan Public Health Center. Methods:  A quasi-experimental study with a pretest-posttest control group design was conducted. A total of 60 hypertensive patients were selected using purposive sampling and divided equally into an intervention group (listening to Quranic recitation) and a control group (standard treatment without relaxation intervention). Blood pressure measurements were taken before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using Wilcoxon signed-rank test . Results:  The findings showed a significant reduction in systolic and diastolic blood pressure in the intervention group compared to the control group (p < 0.05). The mean reduction in systolic blood pressure was 10 mmHg, and the diastolic blood pressure reduced by an average of 7 mmHg. This suggests that listening to Quranic recitation has a beneficial effect on blood pressure reduction. Conclusions:  Listening to Quranic recitation as a relaxation technique can be an effective complementary therapy for managing hypertension. Further research with larger sample sizes and different populations is recommended to confirm these findings

Abstract

Introduction: Hypertension is a significant non-communicable disease that is a global health priority due to its status as a major risk factor for cardiovascular conditions such as stroke, heart failure, and myocardial infarction. A lack of public awareness regarding the detrimental effects of hypertension remains a critical issue, compounded by non-compliance with dietary and medication regimens, which exacerbates the condition of hypertensive patients. Objectives: This study aims to identify the factors influencing dietary adherence and medication compliance among hypertensive patients. Methods: A cross-sectional design was employed in this study, which focused on hypertensive patients from Alasbayur Village and Campoan Village, totaling 500 individuals. Using the Slovin formula, a sample of 222 participants was selected. Data were collected through a closed questionnaire, where respondents indicated their answers by marking their responses. Data analysis included bivariate analysis using the Spearman test and multivariate analysis using logistic regression. The research was conducted between March and April 2023. Results: Among the factors tested, four independent variables were significantly associated with adherence to diet and medication: perceived severity (P = 0.005), perceived benefits (P = 0.017), cues to action (P = 0.019), and self-efficacy (P = 0.021). Two variables showed no significant association: perceived vulnerability (P = 0.34) and perceived barriers (P = 0.165). Conclusions: The study identifies four variables that are significantly related to dietary adherence and medication compliance in hypertension patients. Conversely, perceived vulnerability and perceived barriers are not significantly associated with adherence, suggesting that other factors may influence these behaviors.

Abstract

Introduction:  Stroke is a leading cause of disability worldwide, often resulting in impaired physical function and disrupted self-concept. Extremity weakness, as one of the most common sequelae of stroke, may significantly impact an individual's psychological adjustment. However, the relationship between functional dependency and self-concept remains underexplored in clinical practice.  Objectives:  This study aimed to investigate the association between functional status and self-concept in individuals recovering from stroke. Methods: A cross-sectional correlational design was employed involving 33 stroke patients selected through non-probability sampling. Functional status was assessed using the Barthel Index, while self-concept was measured with a validated self-concept questionnaire. Statistical analysis was performed using Spearman’s rank correlation test. Results:  The majority of patients exhibited total dependency (69.7%) and negative self-concept (60.6%). A significant positive correlation was found between functional status and self-concept (r = 0.578, p = 0.046), indicating that higher functional independence was associated with more positive self-perception. Conclusions:  Functional limitations in stroke patients are significantly associated with negative self-concept. These findings suggest the need for holistic rehabilitation strategies that integrate physical and psychological support to optimize recovery and quality of life.

Abstract

Introduction: The majority of DM patients have less knowledge about DM disease, including how to control blood sugar levels and lack of awareness of healthy living behavior, which is one of the causes of complications of DM disease, namely how to control blood glucose levels to avoid complications and this makes The patient becomes anxious about these complications.  Objectives: To determine the effect of ergonomic exercise on blood glucose levels and anxiety of clients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at the Jatibanteng Health Center Situbondo. Methods: This research method uses a quasi-experimental design. The population in this study were 150 diabetes mellitus patients at the Jatibanteng Situbondo Health Center. Samples were taken using purposive sampling technique as many as 109 respondents. Data were collected with the HARS scale questionnaire instrument for anxiety and GDA examination for the patient's blood sugar levels and tested by paired t test. Results: The results showed that there was a decrease in the average score in the experimental group by 19,783 greater than the control group = 6,633 so this indicated that ergonomic strings were more effective in reducing anxiety in people with diabetes mellitus. Based on the results of the Kolmogorov Smirnov normality test, it showed a value of ρ > α = 0.05 so that the data was normally distributed and the test used was the paired t test as a parametric test. The results of the paired t test showed a significant value for both groups ρ = 0.000 < α = 0.05 so that H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted, meaning that there is an effect of ergonomic gymnastics on the anxiety of diabetes mellitus patients at the Jatibanteng Health Center Situbondo. Conclusions: Ergonomic gymnastics can be used as an alternative to providing physical exercise for people with diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Introduction: Pre-procedural anxiety is a common psychological response among patients undergoing endoscopic examinations. This emotional state may negatively affect patient cooperation and procedural outcomes. Spiritual guidance is a non-pharmacological intervention that offers emotional and psychological comfort rooted in patients’ beliefs and values. Objectives: This study aimed to examine the effect of spiritual guidance on anxiety levels in patients prior to endoscopy. Methods: A quasi-experimental design with a time series approach was employed involving 20 adult patients. Participants received a spiritual guidance intervention consisting of structured sessions tailored to individual beliefs. Anxiety levels were measured before and after the intervention using a standardized scale. Data were analyzed using a paired t-test to determine statistical significance. Results: Prior to the intervention, 70% of patients had no family history of endoscopy and 75% had never received information about the procedure. The majority experienced moderate (45%) to severe (25%) anxiety. After spiritual guidance, anxiety levels decreased significantly, with 45% reporting no anxiety and another 45% reporting only mild anxiety. The mean anxiety score dropped from 2.90 to 1.65 (p = 0.000). Conclusions: Spiritual guidance was effective in reducing anxiety before endoscopic procedures. This finding supports the integration of spiritual care into holistic nursing practice, especially in culturally religious communities. Further research is needed to explore the long-term and broader clinical applications of this intervention.

Abstract

Introduction: The issues faced by HIV/AIDS patients are not only psychological but also spiritual, such as their relationship with others, themselves, and God. The negative labels received by HIV/AIDS patients can sometimes lead them to blame God for the trials they face, as each individual has different levels of spirituality. Objectives:The purpose of this research is to understand the spiritual experiences of HIV/AIDS clients at Waluyo Jati Regional Hospital, Kraksaan Probolinggo.  Methods: This study employs a qualitative research method with a phenomenological approach, using data collection techniques such as observation, interviews, and documentation. The number of informants in this study is five people, who have reached saturation. Results: The results of the study show that the spiritual experiences of HIV/AIDS clients involve drawing closer to God by praying and spending their free time reciting the Quran. However, in their relationships with others, HIV/AIDS clients keep their illness a secret because they fear being shunned by those around them, and they even hide it from their families. Conclusions: Therefore, further research is needed to address the social issues faced by HIV/AIDS patients.

Abstract

Introduction: Families of critically ill patients often experience psychological stress due to the uncertainty and emotional burden of intensive care environments. Objectives: This study aimed to examine the relationship between stress levels and coping mechanisms among family members of patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Methods: A quantitative analytic design with a cross-sectional approach was used, involving 30 respondents selected through quota sampling. Data were collected using structured questionnaires to measure stress levels and coping strategies, and analyzed using Spearman’s rho correlation. Results: The results showed that 60.0% of respondents experienced high levels of stress (Level IV), and 70.0% employed maladaptive coping mechanisms. A moderate positive correlation was found between stress and coping (r = 0.365, p = 0.024), indicating that higher stress levels were associated with an increased use of maladaptive strategies. Conclusions: The study concludes that family members of ICU patients are prone to psychological distress and often lack effective coping mechanisms, highlighting the need for family-centered interventions to support emotional resilience and adaptive coping.
