Abstract

Developing curriculum for education faces philosophical problems when improvement of education quality is related to the curriculum coverage, the method of curriculum development, and the benefits of the curriculum. This article describes the philosophical problems in developing curriculum for education. The problems include how the curriculum sees human beings, how the curriculum is implemented, and what benefits education can offer.

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to obtain information among teachers of Physical Education (PE) in Special Capital District of Jakarta concerning their teaching practice. The sample, 79 in number, was taken from a population of teachers of PE in elementary schools, graduating from senior high schools and from PE program of SGO, DIII, and S1. The results reveal that the teaching practice emphasized the development of children’s physical aspect (48.27%), followed by cognitive and affective aspects. Teaching materials were suited to child development and teaching activities included planning, teaching (warming-up, exercise, core exercise, and closing or cooling down), and evaluating.

Abstract

The focus of this qualitative study is to describe the attempts made by Brawijaya University in developing its lecturers’ competence. Using snowball sampling, this study included data in the form of informa-tion from source people in the university and of relevant documents. The study revealed that the university encouraged its lecturers to further their study to both masters and doctoral degrees. In addition, the university offered certain rewards to the lecturers having their articles published in journals.

Abstract

The Relevance of Carl Gustav Jung's Philosophy on Androgynity to the Gender Equality in Education. Androgynity concept means that everyone carries within them the feminine and masculine aspects as two eternal images, coexisting as equal and complementary parts of balanced cosmic system. Androgynity concept functions as a pair of opposites complementary, profoundly influencing the relation of all men and women with each other. Based on the research, understanding androgynity concept is important to make both man and women become consciuos of each other's psychic reality and have consciousness of gender equality, mainly in education. Androgynity concept is needed as alternative solution to gender inequality problem in education.

Abstract

This research investigated nutrition knowledge level and nutrition status of junior secondary school students in Malang city. Subjects of the research were 253 male students and 248 female students. The research found that nutrition knowledge level and nutrition statues of junior secondary school students in Malang city were not in the good criteria.

Abstract

Media massa sering menyoroti perilaku negatif sebagian remaja, terutama di kota-kota besar, antara lain berupa perkelahian dan pengeroyokan antara sesama pelajar yang menyebabkan jatuhnya korban jiwa, perusakan benda milik umum atau pemerintah, pemerasan, pencurian, pergaulan bebas, penyalahgunaan obat terlarang, dan yang lainnya. Perilaku remaja itu merupakan perilaku negatif (indisiplin) yang dapat merugikan berbagai pihak, antara lain mengganggu kelancaran proses pendidikan di sekolah. Oleh karena itu diperlukan penanganan yang serius, yang dapat dimulai dengan pembinaan disiplin sekolah.

Abstract

Study on Strategic Challenges in Realizing the Educational Decentralization. This study was aimed to obtain data on the implementation of educational decentralization. A meta-analysis was applied in this study, by combining primary and secondary data. The data were obtained from studies held on 1993, 1999, and 2000 by the Ministry of National Education and by the Department of Law. The result revealed that our regional conditions did not contribute to the implementation of educational decentralization. The school management was ineffective and inefficient. Budgets for education were inappropiate. The parent participation was relatively low, but the quantity and quality of human resources in the schools were good enough.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui ide anak-anak tentang gaya yang bekerja pada benda diam dan benda bergerak. Subjeknya adalah murid SD berumur 8-10 tahun. Data dikumpulkan dengan kuesener yang menanyakan gaya yang bekerja pada benda diam dan benda bergerak, yang melibatkan manusia atau tidak. Data dideskripsikan dan dikategorikan untuk dicari keteraturan ide anak, dan selanjutnya dibandingkan dengan pendapat ilmuwan. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa anak-anak memiliki ide tentang gaya sebelum mendapat pengajaran di kelas. Sukar atau tidaknya anak mengenal gaya yang bekerja tergantung pada contoh gambar. Terdapat perbedaan dan persamaan antara ide anak-anak dan ilmuwan.

Abstract

This globalized era is signified with competitions in almost all life sectors. These talented individuals, however, needs specific education and guidance which can help them realize their talents optimally. Abstract

The movement on building excellent schools has developed recently. Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (Islamic Elementary Schools, MI), which used to be managed traditionally, has also been developed to that direction. The criteria of excellent education are based on the academic quality and the goals of MI. The excellent MI is indicated by the effectiveness of managing the invisible conceptual principles such as values, philosophy, and ideology. Such an effectiveness can trigger the support of the internal and external community of MI. This becomes the key of the success in managing the visible symbols and expressions like conceptual, material, and behavior manifestation. In addition, excellent MI is also indicated by its vision about the future through the strategic planning refering to self-management.
