Abstract

This study aims to analyze the principal's application of transformational leadership in driving innovation programs at SDS IT Candra Buana, an integrated Islamic elementary school located in a rural area. Transformational leadership is understood as a leadership style that emphasizes role modeling, inspiration, intellectual encouragement, and individual attention in creating change and an innovative culture in the school environment. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data collection techniques were carried out through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation of the principal, teachers, students, and the school committee. Data were analyzed using the steps of reduction, presentation, verification, and validity were tested through triangulation and peer discussions. The results of the study indicate that the principal has implemented transformational leadership effectively. He is able to inspire teachers, build a collaborative work culture, and empower all elements of the school. Innovations developed include digitalization of learning, character strengthening through the ODAS program, teacher training, student independent projects, and the use of social media for school publications. Supporting factors include an open leadership style, the enthusiasm of young teachers, and committee support. Meanwhile, limited facilities, funding, and human resources become obstacles that actually encourage creativity and solidarity. This research aligns with previous studies on the positive influence of transformational leadership on the development of organizational culture and educational innovation. Contextually, these findings indicate that transformational leadership is effectively implemented in integrated Islamic schools, even amidst the limitations of rural environments.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of machine learning-based Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology in enhancing the effectiveness of tahfidz Al-Qur'an learning at Madrasah Tsanawiyah (Islamic Junior High School). Using a quasi-experimental method with 120 students across three Madrasah Tsanawiyah institutions in Yogyakarta, this research compares the effectiveness of tahfidz learning using AI applications versus conventional methods. The developed application integrates speech recognition technology, natural language processing, and adaptive learning to provide real-time feedback on students' Qur'anic recitation. Research findings indicate significant improvements in memorization speed (p<0.05), tajwid accuracy (38% increase), and student learning motivation. This study provides empirical contributions to the integration of modern Islamic educational technology and opens opportunities for developing more effective and measurable tahfidz learning approaches.

Abstract

This research aims to delve deeper into the practice of reciting Rotibul Athos in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), a spiritual tradition that remains preserved to this day. Rotibul Athos is a series of prayers and dhikr (remembrance of God) composed by Sufi scholars intended to draw closer to Allah SWT, seek protection, and strengthen the spiritual bonds of Muslims. In the context of Islamic boarding schools, reciting Rotibul Athos is an integral part of the students' routine worship and religious learning process. This tradition holds strong spiritual, social, cultural, and educational values, shaping the students' character and personality. This research employed a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach, conducted at a traditional Islamic boarding school located in the Klutuk village, Tambakboyo District, Tuban Regency, East Java. Information was obtained through in-depth interviews with the caretaker, ustadz (teacher), and students, as well as direct observation of the Rotibul Athos recitation activity and the collection of related documents. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive thematic methods to identify the meaning, value, and impact of these activities on the students' lives. The research results indicate that reciting Rotibul Athos serves several important roles: as a spiritual tool to strengthen faith and piety, as a medium for building discipline and togetherness among students, and as an effort to maintain religious traditions deeply rooted in Islamic boarding school culture. This collective dhikr activity also has a positive impact on the character development of students, particularly in terms of sincerity, patience, obedience, and a sense of responsibility towards others. Students who regularly recite Rotibul Athos tend to experience greater peace of mind and demonstrate stable religious behavior in their daily lives. It is hoped that the results of this research will contribute to the study of Islamic spirituality in Islamic boarding schools and serve as a reference for other Islamic educational institutions in preserving religious traditions rich in values.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the role of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) and Character teachers in fostering students' religious moderation through Islamic Spirituality (Rohis) activities at SMA Negeri 1 Purwokerto. The background of this research is rooted in the urgency of strengthening the values of religious moderation among high school students, especially in the midst of rapid information flow and the emergence of extreme religious understandings that may influence students' perspectives. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method with data collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using Miles and Huberman's interactive model. The findings reveal that PAI and Character teachers act as educators, spiritual mentors, facilitators of activities, and role models (uswah hasanah) in internalizing moderation values, including tolerance (tasamuh), balance (tawazun), and fairness (i'tidal). The implementation of religious moderation is carried out through regular Islamic studies, worship habituation, social service activities, and Rohis programs involving collaboration with various student organizations. These activities effectively enhance students' moderate attitudes, reflected in their increased tolerance, openness, and harmonious interactions among peers of different religious backgrounds. This study highlights the strategic role of PAI teachers in shaping students' moderate, inclusive, and nationally oriented religious character.

Abstract

The background of this study stems from the need to reconstruct the paradigm of Islamic education to respond effectively to the challenges of modernization, globalization, and moral crisis. The philosophy of reconstructionism offers a concept of social renewal through education, which, in the context of Islam, can be integrated with the values of tawhid and justice. This research aims to examine in depth the relevance of reconstructionism from an Islamic perspective and its contribution to developing an educational system that is adaptive to contemporary developments. The study employs a qualitative method with a library research approach, analyzing academic literature, books, and journal articles related to Islamic educational philosophy and reconstructionist thought. Data were analyzed using content analysis through a descriptive-analytical framework. The findings reveal that reconstructionism shares a common orientation with Islamic education in terms of promoting constructive social transformation, although they differ in foundational principles. Islam emphasizes harmony between reason, revelation, and divine morality, while reconstructionism focuses on rationality and social progress. In conclusion, integrating both perspectives can produce a reconstructive Islamic education paradigm that is adaptive to advances in science and technology while remaining deeply rooted in spiritual and universal human values.

Abstract

Knowledge and literacy play a very important role in the development of education and Islamic civilization. This is reflected in the first revelation received by the Prophet Muhammad, namely Surah Al-‘Alaq verses 1–6, which emphasize the urgency of reading, learning, and the acquisition of knowledge as the primary foundation of Islamic education. This study aims to analyze the concept of knowledge and literacy from the Qur’anic perspective through an examination of Surah Al-‘Alaq verses 1–6 and their relevance to Islamic education. The method used is qualitative research with a library research approach, employing the Qur’an and authoritative books of tafsir as the main data sources, as well as scholarly books and journal articles as supporting sources. The results of the study indicate that the command iqra’ carries a broad meaning, not limited to reading written texts, but also encompassing the understanding of reality and life phenomena. This concept affirms that Islamic education should be directed toward the holistic development of students’ intellectual, spiritual, and moral dimensions. Therefore, the values of knowledge and literacy contained in Surah Al-‘Alaq verses 1–6 make an important contribution to strengthening Islamic education oriented toward the values of monotheism, scholarship, and character formation.

Abstract

Surah An-Nahl verse 78 outlines the fundamental concept of human nature (fitrah) as a learning being. The verse emphasizes that humans are born without knowledge, yet Allah equips them with three essential faculties for learning and self-development: hearing (as-sam‘u), sight (al-abṣār), and the heart or intellect (al-af’idah). These capacities form the epistemological foundation of Islamic education, which highlights the holistic use of human faculties in the pursuit of knowledge and truth. In Islamic educational thought, learning is not merely a cognitive activity but also a spiritual process, with gratitude as its ultimate objective. This article examines the concept of fitrah and the development of human potential in Islamic education based on Surah An-Nahl verse 78 through a library research approach. The findings indicate that Islamic education is an integrative process of cultivating human consciousness by directing sensory, intellectual, and spiritual potentials toward noble character and the common good.

Abstract

Islamic education is a comprehensive system that emphasizes the balance between intellectual development, moral cultivation, and spiritual formation. This study explores the educational values (tarbawi) contained in the Prophet Muhammad’s hadith, particularly the narration of Ibn Abbas, as a fundamental guide for shaping character and ethical behavior in learners. Using a qualitative approach through library research, this study analyzes relevant literature on Islamic education, authentic hadith texts, and scholarly interpretations related to educational principles within Islamic teachings. The findings indicate that the hadith teaches essential concepts such as maintaining a strong relationship with Allah, practicing reliance (tawakkul), and understanding divine decree as core foundations of spiritual education. These values remain highly relevant in modern educational contexts, where intellectual achievements often overshadow moral and spiritual dimensions. The integration of tarbawi principles into contemporary education can foster individuals who are not only intellectually capable but also morally grounded, spiritually conscious, and equipped with noble character. This study highlights the importance of embedding Islamic values in educational processes to develop holistic and balanced human beings.
