Abstract

This study conducted a needs analysis to explore the potential for developing a learning model adapted from the problem-oriented project-based learning (POPBL) approach for the Manufacturing Product Design course. The analysis incorporated observations of learning activities, student needs and interest assessments, and lecturer requirements. Findings indicated a student interest score of 82.71%, signifying high enthusiasm for a problem-solving-oriented model themed around Appropriate Technology-based Manufacturing Product Design. However, student comprehension of mechanical design concepts scored 65.42%, suggesting areas for improvement. Lecturers acknowledged the model's relevance but emphasized the need for guidance on implementing effective learning tools and methods. Consequently, a new model was proposed to enhance students' competencies in producing appropriate technology-based manufacturing products. This model prioritizes active student engagement and logical understanding through a structured process including need identification, technical specification preparation, concept design, decision-making, and documentation. Lecturers serve as facilitators, guiding students to identify problems and develop solutions while adhering to technical and safety standards. The proposed model's management considers five components: syntax, social systems, reaction principles, support systems, and instructional impacts, aiming to improve learning outcomes in mechanical design.

Abstract

Occupational Safety and Health (OHS) is an important factor in the construction industry to reduce the risk of accidents and improve worker welfare. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the work environment approach in increasing K3 knowledge in construction industry workers. The research design used is One Group Pretest-Posttest Design involving 30 workers. The research process began with a pretest to measure the level of initial knowledge of workers, followed by filling out a questionnaire using the Likert 4 scale to determine the response of workers to the work environment approach. Furthermore, interventions were carried out in the form of training and improvement of the work environment, then ended with a posttest to measure the improvement of K3 knowledge after the intervention. The results showed a significant increase in the average score of workers' knowledge from 62.83 in the pretest to 85.17 in the posttest. This increase shows that the work environment-based approach is effective in increasing workers' awareness and understanding of OSH. The implications of this study emphasize the importance of implementing work environment-based strategies in improving safety culture in the construction industry. Companies are advised to implement a similar approach on an ongoing basis to improve worker safety and productivity.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the need to develop a training model based on Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) in electrical training. HOTS is a high-level thinking skill that includes analysis, evaluation, and creation, which is very important in the world of education and industry. The research method used is a quantitative approach with a survey technique through questionnaires distributed to respondents involved in the implementation of electrical training. The results show that the use of the training model by lecturers is still very limited, with only 15% of lecturers actively using the training model, 25% of lecturers occasionally using it, and 60% of lecturers not using the training model at all. In addition, the results of the questionnaire also showed that only 27% of the training materials had been integrated with the concept of HOTS, which showed that the majority of the materials still did not accommodate the higher-order thinking approach. These findings indicate that the development of a more structured HOTS-based training model is needed to improve the effectiveness of electrical training. Efforts to improve the competence of lecturers in implementing the HOTS training model and the integration of the HOTS concept in training materials are crucial aspects in the development of critical, analytical, and creative thinking skills of trainees.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) knowledge in civil engineering laboratories, focusing on the effectiveness of OHS training in improving awareness, knowledge, and practical skills among laboratory users. The research method employed a mixed approach (qualitative and quantitative) through surveys, observations, and interviews with laboratory users. The results revealed that before the training, the average OHS knowledge level was only 40%, with major issues such as a lack of understanding of chemical risks (40%), improper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (35%), and the absence of clear emergency procedures (50%). After the training, there was a significant increase in OHS knowledge to 75%, along with an improvement in practical skills from 25% to 65%. The training evaluation showed a participant satisfaction rate of 80%, with training objectives such as increased awareness, knowledge, and skills being well achieved. However, challenges such as budget constraints, time limitations, and a lack of OHS experts remain obstacles. This study concludes that regular and structured OHS training is highly effective in improving occupational health and safety in civil engineering laboratories. Recommendations include enhancing training materials, allocating specific budgets, and establishing an OHS team to ensure the sustainability of OHS implementation
