Abstract

This study aims to determine the influence of principal leadership and motivation on teacher performance in public junior high schools (SMP) in Keluang District, Musi Banyuasin Regency. The background of this research lies in the crucial role of school principals as leaders who guide, direct, and motivate teachers to carry out their duties and responsibilities effectively. This study employed a quantitative approach using a survey method. The population consisted of all public junior high school teachers in Keluang District, with samples selected through proportional random sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. The data were analyzed using multiple linear regression to determine the effect of leadership and motivation variables on teacher performance. The results revealed that principal leadership had a positive and significant effect on teacher performance, meaning that better leadership skills in managing and directing schools lead to higher teacher performance. Likewise, work motivation had a positive and significant impact on teacher performance, indicating that highly motivated teachers tend to be more disciplined, creative, and productive in their work. Simultaneously, principal leadership and teacher motivation significantly contributed to improving teacher performance in public junior high schools in Keluang District. These findings emphasize the importance of strengthening school leadership capacity and enhancing teacher motivation as key efforts to improve the overall quality of education.

Abstract

Science learning in elementary schools plays a vital role in fostering scientific thinking, curiosity, and critical thinking skills from an early age. However, classroom practices are still dominated by conventional methods that make students passive and less motivated, which affects their understanding of abstract concepts such as the states of matter and their changes. This study aims to describe the effectiveness of using Canva as an interactive learning medium to enhance the motivation and learning outcomes of fourth-grade elementary school students on the topic of states of matter and their changes. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method through literature review and theoretical experimentation. The study involved reviewing various scientific sources and conducting a simulated Canva-based learning activity that visualized changes in the states of matter through images, animations, and simple classroom experiments. The findings reveal that using Canva encourages active student participation, clarifies abstract science concepts, and creates an engaging learning experience. Canva has proven to be an effective and innovative medium that supports the principles of the Merdeka Curriculum, emphasizing creativity, collaboration, and independent learning.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze learning motivation from an Islamic perspective through the integration of spiritual values, including intention (niyyah), sincerity (ikhlas), and divine reward (pahala). Unlike modern motivation theories that emphasize psychological aspects, Islam views learning as an act of worship that carries spiritual merit and divine blessing. This research employs a qualitative approach using the literature review method, conducted through the collection of scientific articles from Google Scholar and Publish or Perish databases published between 2020 and 2025. Five relevant articles were selected for in-depth analysis. The results reveal that learning motivation in Islam is not only influenced by cognitive and external factors but also by spiritual drives rooted in pure intentions, sincerity in action, and belief in divine reward. The integration of these three elements forms a holistic model of learning motivation that combines intellectual, moral, and spiritual dimensions. Therefore, Islamic education should embed the values of intention, sincerity, and reward as the foundation for fostering meaningful and spiritually oriented learning motivation among students.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of technology has significantly impacted the field of education, making learning more interactive and engaging. This study aims to investigate the implementation of Google Sites in enhancing the learning motivation of eighth-grade students at SMPN 1 Polongbangkeng Utara in science subjects. The research employed a Classroom Action Research (PTK) approach with a quantitative descriptive method, involving 32 students as participants. Data were collected through observations, questionnaires, and documentation over two cycles of learning interventions. The results showed that students’ learning motivation increased progressively from the pre-cycle, with a low average of 38%, to cycle I with 55% (moderate), and reached 78% (high) in cycle II. Indicators such as diligence, perseverance, attention, achievement, and independence showed significant improvement after utilizing Google Sites. These findings suggest that Google Sites, as an interactive and easily accessible digital learning media, can effectively stimulate student engagement, facilitate understanding of complex concepts, and foster independent learning. The study highlights the potential of integrating technology-based media to enhance motivation in science education.

Abstract

Recent declines in student ethics and learning diligence indicate deeper systemic challenges within the contemporary educational ecosystem. This situation prompts critical inquiry into the respective contributions of school governance, teacher practices, and familial environments in shaping student’s learning orientations. This study seeks to identify the principal determinants of learning diligence from the perspectives of teachers, parents, and students, employing a qualitative exploratory–interpretive design. Data were elicited through narrative stimuli intended to provoke reflective and affectively grounded responses, which were subsequently examined using inductive–thematic analysis. The findings demonstrate that structural weaknesses within school systems, particularly ambiguous policy direction, inconsistent institutional regulations, and ineffective evaluative mechanisms—constitute dominant factors undermining student’s motivation and academic discipline. Parental influences also play a substantive role; insufficient parental engagement and inadequate developmental guidance contribute to weakened responsibility and diminished learner commitment. Some students report withdrawing from academic engagement due to unclear expectations and the absence of supportive school conditions. Moreover, perceptions of automatic grade promotion and guaranteed graduation exacerbate motivational decline. Collectively, these findings indicate that learning diligence emerges from a complex interplay between institutional structures, pedagogical practices, family dynamics, and student’s psychosocial conditions. Addressing these issues thus requires coordinated, systemic, and multi-stakeholder intervention.
