Abstract

In learning English, grammar is one of significant components to mediate the system of written symbol that cannot be avoided. Tenses, preposition, to be, and articles are some aspect of grammar. Preposition is one of the important things in grammar aspects. The formulation of problem in this research is “Can video as media develop student’s ability in using preposition of place?”. The research design in this research is quasi experimental design. The sample of this research is students in SMK TUNAS RAJAWALI and the writer taken all students the tenth grade is 26 students. The first step of this research the writer gave pretest to measure the student abilities before doing treatment. Second give treatment the teacher usually starts the lesson by greeting the students and checking the attendance list. It is support by the result of the using this method that the teacher always greets the student when they start the lesson. The activities during the teaching and learning process the classroom. Then the teacher showing the video about preposition of place to the student’s, the teacher ask the student’s to watch the video about the material preposition of place, the teacher ask the students to repeat each the sentences of preposition, after that the teacher ask the students to understand the kinds of preposition of place. The last is the teacher asking the student’s feeling about teaching and learning process of preposition of place by using video. By using t - test formulation the writer gets 16.158 and the t-table value with 0.05 with df 25 is 1.7081. It means that t-test value is higher than t-table. In other word it can be said that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. It means that the student’s ability before gave video as media is low and the student’s ability after teach using video as media technique is improve, so the video as media is effective for the tenth-grade students of SMK TUNAS RAJAWALI.

Abstract

This study was designed to investigate the students error in using preposition “to” and “for”. English is one of international language, this is important for us to master it. In this era, many science and technology book are written in English. Based on the fact that, learning a foreign language often the learner get difficulties, especially in grammar. They were that error analysis at using preposition “to” and “for” are found in the second grade of MTS Al-Ma’arif 1 aimas. The students error were classified into several kind, error in using preposition “to” and “for”, error in using past tense and error in omission, addition and miss-formation. From the analysis, it was found that, the first errors in miss-formation, with the frequency 56% as the highest number of occurrences. The second level in addition, with frequency 22%l. The finally lower in omission with frequency 21%. In learning English process students make error in using preposition in miss-formation, it happened to do not mastery about the material and also writer found caused the error of students include first language, translation error. Based on the discussion, it is included that the students at the second grade of MTS Al-Ma’arif 1 Aimas still low in understanding function of preposition. The finally the writer hopes that it will help the teacher in their teaching to improving the students ability in learning English.

Abstract

Role play is a tool of dramatic explorations, which engages participants within an aesthetic, there-dimensional problem-solving process to examine, explore, and reflect upon issue of personal and collective importance. The aim of study was to find out whether or not the use of role play of daily conversation in teaching speaking is able to improve the students’ speaking ability or not. This research used quasi-experimental method. The sample of the research is 30 students of first grade of SMA Muhammadiyah Aimas which was divided into two classes. The data has collected through interview on pre-test and role play show on post-test. The data analysis showed the improvements of the students’ speaking ability who are studied through role play. It was proven by the mean score of experimental class was 72.3 with SD 3,527 higher than control class was 65,7 with SD 4,154. In other words, Role Play techniques can improve the speaking ability of the students.

Abstract

The purpose of this reseach to know how the students competence on their reading comprehension especially their ability in getting detailed information in expository text. The population of this research is 10 students of class X Akutansi SMK Modellink Makbusun. The research used descriptive analysis design. The instrument of this research was the reading test which focused on detail information in expository text. The result of students competence in getting detail information in expository text was 60% or 6 students got score among 70-100 and it was catagorized into good score. The other students or 2 students got in catagorized at “poor” catagory. The average of score students was 71.6. The competence of students in getting information in expository text was catagorized into “good” category.

Abstract

In this study, the writer chose the “Akeelah and the Bee” novel to be analyzed the important of moral values as a part of our life. For that reason the writer wants to investigate and doing research in the library. The formulation of problem in this research is “ What are the moral values as reflected in the novel “ Akeelah and the Bee”. The methodology of this study is qualitative study. it is means that it does not need statistic approach to explore the material. The primary data is scrip from the movie “Akeelah and the Bee”. The secondary data is taken from many literary books and some relevant materials to support and complete the primary data sources. The result of this study is there are some moral values in the “Akeelah and the Bee” novel. They are love and affection, sacrifice, sorry and Apologize, optimism, honesty, kind and friendly, hardworker, ambition, not easily to surrender, firm, serious and discipline, and helper.

Abstract

An Analysis of Plot in James W. Ellison “Akeelah and the Bee”. Thesis English Program of STKIP Muhammadiyah Sorong. The object of the analysis is Plot in the novel Akeelah and the Bee, the plot is taken as data, classified into the kind of plot and analyzed using descriptive analysis method. The purpose of this research is to know the kind of plot in Akeelah and the Bee novel. The result of this research show that in Akeelah and the Bee novel using (Flashback Plot because containing the elements are; Conflict, Exposition I, Exposition II, Exposition III, Exposition IV, Climax I, Climax II and End). And the writer analyze based on the theory of Russel and Freytag. The result of this research can give useful addition information for lecturers, especially in teaching literature about intrinsic element of story. For the students, the result of this research can be used as additional knowledge to improve their knowledge and ability of the literature, especially in plots of story.

Abstract

Writing skills is one type of language skills which should be controlled by the student. The students must be familiar with English especially to writing skill which write about their experience at the past time or to write recount text. For this reason, the researcher intended to investigate the students’ ability in constructing paragraph of recount text. The objective of this research is to measure students’ ability in constructing paragraphs and find out the causes of error made by the students. The design of this research is quantitative decriptive to measure students ability in constructing paragraphs at recount text. The population was students Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Model Sorong Grade XII. The technique of collecting data, the students were assigned to write the paragraphs in personal recount text based on their experiences in 60 minutes so the students decided the theme by themselves. The result of this research shows that 10 students score 43,4 % in good, then the students category of average was 9 students (39,1 %), and the students category of excellent was 4 students (17,1 %). The writer concluded that the students ability in constructing paragraph was average.

Abstract

Vocabulary is an important one of the language components that should be learnt by students, so they can master the English well. This research is conducted to know the student vocabulary improving after taught using crossword puzzles. The research used pre-experimental design which is need an experimental class. The sample of this research is the first grade of SMAN 5 Makassar which consist of 20 students. In collecting the data, the researcher used vocabulary test that has administered in pretest and posttest. The result showed that the mean score in posttest was 76.75 that is higher than the mean score in pre-test was 55.5. The score of t-test was 0.02 was smaller than ? (0.05). It can be said that using puzzles can improve the students’ vocabulary mastery.

Abstract

The study about linguistic in Papua with English were analyzed How the word arrange in Positive, negative and Interrogative sentences. This study is about Active Voice in Moi language. The researcher attempted to find some Active sentences in Moi language and try to analysis. She also classified the verb based on the subject and also explains the uniqueness by words. This study used descriptive linguistic research to analyze. The researcher offered numerous recommendations and suggestions.

Abstract

The study attempts to analyze the types of communication strategies used in English classroom presentation by the English education students of UNIMUDA Sorong and the reasons why they used the strategy. The study took place at UNIMUDA Sorong in TEFL class where 30 students were participated and observed during their presentation activity in this subject. The study employed descriptive method, where the data obtained through open interviewed and video recording. The result showed that from twelve features of communication strategies, there are six of them that the students used during presentation. They are appoximation, circumlocation, examplification, word coinages, code switching and use fo fillers. Circumlocation was used because the students wanted to make direct contact to the students in order to make the successful teaching and learning process. Examplification was used because it can reflect the meaning of the concept. Word coinages was used because they might forget the appropriate words/term. Code switching was used because they felt more comfortable in case she combined between Bahasa Indonesia and the English language. Use of fillers was used because the strategy was very significant particularly second or foreign language speaker. The most frequently communication strategy that the students used is use of fillers.
