Abstract

The rapid acceleration of digital technology has introduced the paradigm of Society 5.0, a human-centered society that leverages cutting-edge artificial intelligence, big data, and the Internet of Things to solve complex social challenges. In the educational sphere, this paradigm shift requires a radical transformation of teacher professionalism, transitioning instructors from traditional transmitters of knowledge into dynamic facilitators, digital innovators, and empathetic mentors. This study investigates the comprehensive strategies implemented by teachers at SMK Harapan Al Washliyah Titi Aloban to enhance their professional capabilities in response to the demands of Society 5.0. Utilizing a quantitative descriptive survey design, data were collected on June 11, 2026, from 12 active teachers using a structured 13-item questionnaire spanning four key dimensions: digital adaptation and literacy, pedagogical and professional competence enhancement, professional collaboration and networking, and humanistic character reinforcement. The overall empirical findings demonstrate that teacher professionalism strategies achieved a high average implementation rate of 77.86%, categorized as 'Good'. Specifically, humanistic character reinforcement recorded the highest performance score at 84.72% ('Very Good'), highlighting teachers' deep commitment to emotional support, ethical digital guidance, and student creativity. Pedagogical and professional enhancement scored 76.04% ('Good'), collaboration and networking reached 75.69% ('Good'), and digital adaptation scored 75.00% ('Good'). Although digital literacy was strong regarding independent educational technology tracking (85.42%) and artificial intelligence integration (77.08%), the formal adoption of Learning Management Systems (LMS) registered the lowest score at 62.50%. The contribution of these findings lies in providing an empirical framework that highlights the necessity of combining human-centered pedagogy with targeted institutional infrastructure support to bridge the digital implementation gap in vocational education.

Abstract

Reading interest among elementary school students remains a challenge, particularly when students are less enthusiastic about literacy activities and are more attracted to entertainment-based activities. This study investigated the effectiveness of picture stories in improving reading interest among third-grade students at UPT SD Negeri 1 Sereang. The study employed a quantitative approach using a one-group pre-test–post-test design. Data were collected through reading interest questionnaires, observation, and documentation. The treatment involved structured reading activities using picture stories for 10–15 minutes before learning activities, followed by discussion and sharing of story content. The findings indicated an improvement in students’ reading interest after the implementation of picture stories. The increase was reflected in students’ attention, participation, enthusiasm, and willingness to continue reading activities. The study concludes that picture stories are an effective instructional medium for supporting literacy development in elementary schools.

Abstract

Reading and literary literacy in Indonesia's eastern regions, particularly in Southwest Papua Province, remains at a very low level, with the reading literacy activity index recorded at 19.90 for Papua and 28.25 for Southwest Papua, both of which fall into the low to very low categories. This condition contributes to a low Human Development Index and is closely tied to the many 3T (frontier, outermost, disadvantaged) areas found within the province, one of which is SD Inpres 138 Wardik in South Sorong Regency. This study aims to develop a literature literacy teaching material containing Papuan culture, namely BASASTRA, to support the learning of explanatory texts and to examine its validity and practicality. The study used a Research and Development (R&D) approach with the Plomp model, consisting of preliminary investigation, design, realization/construction, test-evaluation-revision, and implementation phases. Data were collected through interviews, questionnaires, observation, and documentation involving a classroom teacher, twelve sixth-grade students, and three validators (language, material, and teaching material experts). The results show that the need for a culturally-based literature teaching material reached an average of 84% (very needed). Expert validation results indicated that the developed material was very valid, with language, material, and teaching material aspects scoring 89%, 96%, and 95% respectively. Trial results also showed that the material was very practical, with student and teacher responses reaching 92% and 87%. These findings confirm that a literature literacy teaching material integrated with local Papuan culture can meet the needs of teachers and students in 3T elementary schools and can be considered a valid and practical learning resource for explanatory text material.
