Abstract

Literacy is a fundamental competency that needs to be developed starting at the elementary school level, as it plays a crucial role in students' ability to acquire, comprehend, process, evaluate, and communicate information. Indonesian language instruction plays a strategic role in enhancing literacy skills by fostering listening, speaking, reading, viewing, and writing abilities. However, the implementation of Indonesian language instruction in elementary schools still faces various challenges, such as low student interest in reading, limited use of instructional media, disparities in literacy levels among students, and suboptimal parental support in fostering a literacy culture at home. This study aims to analyze the challenges associated with Indonesian language instruction and describe the solutions implemented by teachers to improve student literacy at SDN 11 Sitiung. The study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive design. The research subjects consisted of classroom teachers (as primary informants) and students (as secondary informants), selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected via observation, interviews, and documentation, and subsequently analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, and SaldaƱa model, involving stages of data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. Data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The results indicate that the challenges in Indonesian language instruction regarding student literacy improvement are influenced by both internal and external factors. Internal factors include low reading interest and varying literacy abilities among students, while external factors include limited use of instructional media and suboptimal family support. Solutions implemented by teachers include establishing a habit of reading prior to lessons, utilizing diverse instructional media, applying student-centered learning approaches, providing motivation, and strengthening collaboration with parents. These efforts contributed to increased student engagement in literacy activities, improved reading comprehension, and greater confidence in expressing opinions. Thus, enhancing student literacy within Indonesian language instruction requires appropriate teaching strategies and sustained collaboration among the school, the family, and the learning environment.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the growth mindset approach in addressing learning resilience and developing learning character in fifth-grade students at SDN 15 Koto Besar. The growth mindset approach emphasizes that abilities and intelligence can develop through effort, practice, and a persistent attitude. The research method used was quantitative research with an experimental design. The subjects were 17 fifth-grade students at SDN 15 Koto Besar. Data collection techniques included observation, questionnaires, and documentation. The data were analyzed using statistical tests to determine the effect of the growth mindset approach on students' learning resilience and learning character. The results showed that implementing the growth mindset approach had a positive impact on students' learning resilience, such as increased enthusiasm for learning, the ability to overcome difficulties, and a persistent attitude. Furthermore, this approach also influenced the development of students' learning character traits, such as discipline, responsibility, self-confidence, and hard work. Abstract

The transition from the 2013 Curriculum to the Kurikulum Merdeka (Emancipated Curriculum) which is oriented toward the "Deep Learning" paradigm presents tangible challenges for elementary school teachers. This study aims to identify the primary challenges teachers face in implementing this shift, particularly within the context of deep learning, which emphasizes meaningful conceptual mastery, critical thinking, and active student engagement. A descriptive qualitative method was employed, utilizing in-depth interviews with twenty teachers of grades 4, 5, and 6 from ten public elementary schools in Dharmasraya Regency, West Sumatra Province, selected via purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The findings reveal four dominant challenges: (1) teachers' limited conceptual understanding of the deep learning philosophy; (2) difficulties in designing authentic assessments that go beyond rote memorization; (3) administrative burdens that hinder pedagogical creativity; and (4) a lack of infrastructure support and continuous professional training. The study concludes that the success of the curriculum transition relies heavily on teacher capacity and systemic support from both schools and local government. Recommendations include strengthening school-based professional development programs and streamlining teachers' administrative workloads.

Abstract

: This study aims to improve student achievement in Civics Education (PKn) for fifth-grade elementary school students through the implementation of the Role-Playing method. The study was motivated by low student learning outcomes resulting from teacher-centered instruction, which led to a lack of student engagement in the learning process. A Classroom Action Research (CAR) design was employed, conducted over two cycles. The subjects of the study were 25 fifth-grade elementary school students. Data collection techniques included tests, observation, documentation, and field notes. Data analysis was conducted using both quantitative and qualitative descriptive methods. The results indicate that the Role-Playing method successfully improved student achievement. In the pre-cycle stage, the student mastery rate was 48% with an average score of 65.2. This increased to 72% with an average score of 74.8 in Cycle I, and further rose to 92% with an average score of 86.4 in Cycle II. Additionally, student activity and participation during lessons also improved. Thus, the Role-Playing method is effective for enhancing Civics Education achievement among fifth-grade elementary school students.

Abstract

Keywords: Learning problems, learning solutions, elementary schools, learning motivation, learning strategies, learning media, student learning outcomes. Learning in elementary schools often faces various challenges that can hinder the achievement of student learning targets. These challenges include low learning motivation, differences in individual student abilities, limited use of learning media, and a lack of variety in teaching methods. Furthermore, environmental factors such as parental support and the condition of infrastructure also influence the success of the learning process. If not addressed effectively, these obstacles can lead to suboptimal student learning outcomes and difficulty achieving learning objectives. To address these challenges, appropriate and integrated solutions are needed. Teachers need to implement innovative learning strategies, such as the use of interactive learning media, differentiated learning approaches, and student-centered methods. Furthermore, improving teacher competency through training and professional development is crucial. Support from schools and parents in creating a conducive learning environment is also a contributing factor to success. With the implementation of appropriate solutions, it is hoped that the learning process in elementary schools will be more effective, thus optimally achieving student learning targets.
