Abstract

This research delved into the key determinants influencing family resilience in the aftermath of the Semeru volcano eruption. Catastrophic events like volcanic eruptions often create immense psychological and material challenges for affected families. Using a qualitative approach, this study conducts in-depth interviews with families residing in the Huntap-Huntara resettlement area of Lumajang Regency. The findings highlight three essential components of family resilience—belief systems, organisational structure, and communication coupled with problem-solving abilities—which are crucial in helping families recover. These components are shaped by both internal and external factors, including 1) flexible roles and cultural adaptability, 2) disaster-specific coping strategies, and 3) religious and spiritual support. Despite the uneven distribution of aid and the challenges of relocation, these resilience factors enable families to navigate post-disaster life. The study offers insights for future research and suggests potential psychological interventions to strengthen family resilience in similar contexts.

Abstract

Workplace psychological bullying remains a significant concern, as the phenomenon in Environmental Agency of Central Bengkulu Regency. Despite Indonesia's low rates of daily workplace stress, 16% of workers report experiencing psychological bullying, negatively impacting mental health and job performance. The tragic case of Dr. Aulia Risma Lestari exemplifies the severe consequences of such bullying, including suicide. The study aims to identify the various forms of psychological bullying encountered by civil servants and the coping strategies they employ. Applying Lazarus and Folkman’s Transactional Model of Stress, this research analyzes how individuals perceive and respond to stressors associated with psychological bullying. A mixed-method approach was used, combining quantitative data from questionnaires completed by 28 civil servants with qualitative insights from comprehensive interviews. The findings reveal that verbal abuse, excessive workloads, neglect, and humiliating pranks are prevalent forms of bullying. The coping strategies employed include problem-focused approaches, such as planful problem-solving and seeking social support, alongside less effective emotion-focused strategies like avoidance. The study underscores the need for robust organizational policies to address psychological bullying and support affected public servants by promoting a more conducive work environment.

Abstract

The concept of work-life balance has become increasingly popular in recent years. The demands of dedicating oneself to work, managing household responsibilities, and fulfilling non-work obligations have led many modern workers to adopt work-life balance strategies to harmonize their professional and personal lives. This study aims to analyze the effect of work-life balance on job satisfaction among female employees at Pitoe Cigarette Factory, Trenggalek. The research employed a simple linear regression analysis method, using data collected from questionnaires completed by 95 female employees as samples. The results of the simple linear regression test indicated a positive relationship between work-life balance and job satisfaction, with a p-value of 0.000, which is less than the significance threshold of 0.05. This finding demonstrates that improved work-life balance can contribute to increased job satisfaction among female employees. The coefficient of determination (R²) was found to be 0.413, indicating that 41.3% of the variation in job satisfaction is explained by work-life balance. Furthermore, the study revealed that both work-life balance and job satisfaction levels were categorized as moderate, suggesting the need for greater attention to managing the balance between work and personal life. These findings are expected to provide insights for Pitoe Cigarette Factory management and other companies in designing policies that support work-life balance, ultimately enhancing job satisfaction and productivity among female employees.

Abstract

In Islamic psychology, the study of the human self refers to a deep understanding of human nature and essence as explained in the Quran. Terms such as al-ins, al-basyar, al-qalb, and al-aql play an important role in understanding this concept. Al-ins and al-basyar are often used to describe humans in general. Al-basyar emphasizes the physical and biological aspects of human beings, reflecting humanity in its visible physical form. In contrast, al-ins more often refer to humans in both social and spiritual contexts. Al-qalb (heart) in the Qur'an goes beyond the physical sense, encompassing the spiritual and emotional center of man. In Surah Al-Hajj (22:46), it is stated that blindness refers to the blindness of the heart, not the eyes. Al-aql (intellect) refers to intellectual capacity and the ability to think rationally. Reason is a tool for acquiring knowledge and achieving a deep understanding of life and existence.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) on TikTok addiction among emerging adults (18-25 years) in Indonesia. The research employs a quantitative approach with data collected from 105 participants through online questionnaires. Using the Fear of Missing Out Scale (FoMOS) and TikTok addiction Scale (SMAS), the study finds a significant positive relationship between FoMO and TikTok addiction, with FoMO contributing 70.4% to TikTok addiction variability (R²=0.704, p<.001). Results reveal that 63.81% of participants spend 4-5 hours daily on TikTok, primarily viewing updates (73.3%), with fashion, culinary, and travel content most preferred. The findings suggest that the higher the level of FoMO, the greater the addiction tendency to TikTok. This research addresses a notable gap in understanding how FoMO specifically influences TikTok addiction among emerging adults, providing valuable insights for developing targeted interventions aimed at promoting healthier social media usage patterns in this vulnerable demographic group

Abstract

Self-confidence is essential in adolescent development, particularly for social interactions, public speaking, and decision-making. Adolescents with low self-confidence often withdraw, feel anxious in social situations, and struggle with decisions. Previous research has linked self-confidence to both academic and social success. However, studies on effective psychological interventions to improve self-confidence in adolescents from low socioeconomic backgrounds remain scarce. This study focuses on a 19-year-old adolescent from an economically disadvantaged family. Despite academic potential and personal strengths, the subject experiences self-doubt and fear of self-expression. Person-centered therapy (PCT) was chosen as an appropriate intervention to enhance self-confidence. This research evaluates the effectiveness of PCT in promoting self-acceptance, positive self-perception, and confidence in social settings. Qualitative methods were employed to evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention. The findings indicate that PCT effectively boosts self-confidence, particularly through techniques such as unconditional positive regard. This supports the effectiveness of PCT in enhancing adolescent self-confidence and psychological well-being.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the phenomenon of learning transfer and forgetting within the context of Islamic Religious Education from the perspective of educational psychology. A qualitative method was employed, utilizing a literature review approach to analyze relevant theories related to learning, memory, and the process of forgetting. The data were analyzed using content analysis techniques based on scientific sources discussing the concepts of learning transfer and forgetting, along with their implications for Islamic Religious Education instruction. The findings indicate that learning transfer often fails due to rote-based, less meaningful, and non-contextual learning approaches. Meanwhile, forgetting occurs due to a lack of reinforcement, the material's minimal relevance to students' real-life experiences, and interference from other information. The study concludes that to enhance the effectiveness of Islamic Religious Education learning, educators should implement strategies that emphasize meaningful comprehension, repeated reinforcement, and contextual linkage between the material and students' daily lives, thereby optimizing learning transfer and minimizing the likelihood of forgetting.

Abstract

Digital marketing companies face challenges in maintaining employee engagement amidst the demands of technological change. Although career development programs are available, some employees still show suboptimal engagement. Previous studies have shown that perceptions of organizational support and resilience play a crucial role in enhancing employee engagement. Therefore, this study aims to examine these two factors as predictors of employee engagement in digital marketing companies. The approach used in this study is quantitative, employing a survey research design, and the study utilized a sample of 144 employees. The sampling technique used in this study is Random Sampling. The instruments used are the Employee Engagement Scale, a psychology scale of 12 items; the Perceived Organizational Support Scale, an instrument of 9 items; and resilience, using the CD-RISC-10 of 10 items. The results of the study showed that perceptions of organizational support and resilience have a significant effect on employee engagement, with a significance value of 0.000 (<0.05). The higher an employee's perception of the support provided by the organization, and the higher their level of psychological resilience or endurance, the higher their level of employee engagement in their work. These findings highlight the significance of psychological factors and organizational support in promoting work engagement in a dynamic and competitive work environment.

Abstract

Fatherless college students often experience various psychological and social challenges due to the absence of a father role, both physically and functionally, which can affect their quality of life. Although several studies have shown a positive relationship between dispositional gratitude and quality of life in the general population, very few studies have specifically explored its role in vulnerable groups such as fatherless college students, especially in the Indonesian cultural context. This study aims to fill that gap by evaluating the influence of dispositional gratitude on quality of life in 129 fatherless university students in Jakarta through a quantitative approach and valid and reliable instruments, namely the Gratitude Questionnaire-Six (GQ-6) and the Indonesian Quality of Life Scale. The results of the simple linear regression analysis showed a positive and significant effect of gratitude on quality of life (R² = 0.096; p < 0.001), indicating that gratitude contributed 9.6% to the variation in quality of life. This finding suggests that dispositional gratitude is a psychological resource that has the potential to serve as an adaptive strategy for fatherless students in navigating the developmental pressures of early adulthood. Although its contribution is not dominant, this result opens up opportunities for further exploration of other variables, such as social support, resilience, spirituality, and life expectancy, to develop more targeted, holistic interventions that support the well-being of fatherless college students in Indonesia.
