Abstract

Westernization and the currents of globalization have facilitated the spread of educational liberalism, gradually eroding students’ faith and moral character as acts of immorality increasingly become perceived as part of societal culture. This growing concern over various forms of student social deviation underscores the importance of studying the implementation of educational methods in shaping the character of elementary school students, so that children can be guided early to develop noble morals and grow into a distinguished generation. Using a qualitative approach, this study collected data through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed it using descriptive-interpretative techniques, with the research conducted at the Integrated Islamic Elementary School Al-Hidayah Bogor. The findings indicate that integrative educational methods function effectively and systematically when aligned with a supportive school system and environment, enabling learning activities and school programs to synergize in forming students’ character at school, at home, and within the community through five main methods: exemplary behavior (keteladanan), habituation, encouragement and deterrence (targhib and tarhib), storytelling, and reflection and contemplation (tafakkur and tadabbur).

Abstract

This study aims to explore the social role of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) educators using a field-based case study approach, supplemented with data from Probolinggo City, an urban area characterized by strong religiosity and rapid social, cultural, and technological development. PAI educators in this region are not merely instructors of religious teachings within educational settings but also social actors who make crucial contributions to shaping students’ personalities, fostering religious tolerance, and maintaining social harmony in a diverse community. By employing a field-based case study methodology, this research draws on official information from the Probolinggo City Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Education Office, the PAI Teachers’ Working Group (MGMP PAI), as well as relevant academic literature to provide a comprehensive portrayal of PAI educators’ responsibilities. The findings reveal that PAI educators perform extensive social roles, ranging from instilling educational ethics, addressing social failures, developing digital norms, to actively participating in community activities. Challenges such as the influence of technological information, declining moral values among youth, and social diversity hinder the effectiveness of PAI educators’ functions. Therefore, collaboration among educational institutions, households, and religious social organizations is a key element in enhancing the role of PAI educators in fostering a morally upright and balanced generation.

Abstract

Digital disruption has changed the learning patterns, governance, and competence of educators. Islamic schools need to maintain Islamic values while increasing competitiveness through digital transformation. This study analyzes innovative management strategies at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) Miftahul Ulum Gresik, with the aim of describing anticipation, adaptation, and acceleration practices, identifying key success factors, and formulating a conceptual model that is applicable to Islamic schools. The research uses a qualitative approach with an intrinsic case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and document analysis, then analyzed using Braun–Clarke thematic analysis and Lincoln–Guba trustworthiness test. The results show that the anticipation phase is carried out through environmental scanning, digital needs mapping, and the preparation of a triennial roadmap. The adaptation phase includes digital media use policies, peer-mentoring-based multi-level training, gradual infrastructure improvements, and the integration of digital curriculum based on Islamic values. The acceleration phase can be seen in the implementation of digital learning, partnerships with local digital ecosystems, strengthening digital leadership, and developing a culture of innovation. These findings resulted in a SIF-ISD model that emphasizes that the digital transformation of madrasas relies on the orchestration of anticipative intelligence, adaptive capabilities, and accelerative innovation to support the sustainability of Islamic schools in the digital era.

Abstract

The use of social media among students of madrasah has become increasingly prevalent and plays a significant role in shaping their religious identity. This study aims to explore how madrasah students use social media to build and present their Islamic self-image, as well as how social recognition from peers influences this process. The method used is library research with a qualitative approach, analyzing relevant literature on social media, adolescent identity, and Islam. The main findings indicate that social media serves as a platform for madrasah students to express their religious identity through various forms of content such as religious preaching, calls to worship, and sharing religious knowledge. Social recognition from peers plays a key role in strengthening their Islamic self-image, although there is pressure to present an idealized and performative image. In conclusion, social media has transformed into an important space for the formation of religious identity among madrasah students, but it also brings psychological and social impacts that need to be considered

Abstract

This study investigates the importance of Ki Hajar Dewantara's (KHD) educational philosophy for the development of modern Islamic education. KHD, known as the father of Indonesian national education, introduced comprehensive and humanist concepts such as the Among System, the Three Centers of Education, the Three Principles of Education, and the Five Principles of Dharma. These ideas emphasize human dignity, freedom, character formation, and cultural roots. This study uses a qualitative literature approach by analyzing primary and secondary documents related to KHD's thinking and modern Islamic education. The results indicate conceptual similarities between KHD's ideas and Islamic educational principles, particularly in the aspects of moral development, multicultural values, and human liberation. KHD's philosophy is relevant for strengthening contemporary Islamic education by encouraging humanistic learning, cultural identity, and character formation in accordance with Islamic values. This research contributes to theoretical efforts in integrating national pedagogical philosophy with the development of contemporary Islamic education.

Abstract

This study explores the role of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) as drivers of community economic empowerment in Kademangan District, Probolinggo City, by examining their educational, institutional, and collaborative functions. The scope of the study covers how pesantren foster economic independence through entrepreneurship education and training, the development of Sharia-based cooperatives and business units, and partnerships with local government and business actors. The aim is to analyze the contribution of pesantren to improving community welfare and to identify enabling and constraining factors that influence the optimization of their economic role. This research employs a qualitative descriptive-analytical approach using library research, based on a critical review of relevant journals, books, and empirical reports. The findings indicate that pesantren possess strong social, spiritual, and community capital that can be transformed into Islamic value-based economic power, provided it is managed professionally, transparently, and collaboratively. The study concludes that pesantren have the potential to become strategic socio-economic transformation agents at the local level, as long as they are supported by inclusive public policies, strengthened managerial capacity, and sustainable synergy with key stakeholders.

Abstract

This article explores the strategic role of religious extracurricular activities in shaping a character-driven young generation amid the challenges of the digital era. Departing from the premise that schools can no longer function merely as spaces for knowledge transfer, this study examines how religious activities such as Islamic spirituality clubs, regular study circles, Qur’an memorization programs, and faith-based social service strengthen not only students’ religious understanding but also their social identity and patterns of interaction, including on social media. This research employs a qualitative library research method through a critical review of relevant journals, books, research reports, and scholarly articles. The findings indicate that religious extracurricular activities contribute to: (1) the expression of personal piety through religious content shared on social media; (2) the representation of students’ involvement in religious programs that builds a collective image and a religious school culture; and (3) the negotiation of Islamic identity and digital ethics when facing contemporary online interaction trends. These three practices demonstrate that students’ religious character is manifested not only in offline spaces but also in their digital footprints. The article underscores the importance of strengthening religious extracurricular programs that are integrated with digital literacy and media ethics, so that social media can be utilized as a space for da’wah, character building, and the formation of a young generation that is religious, critically aware, and socially responsible.

Abstract

Philosophy emerged as a movement seeking answers rationally and logically, which gradually developed into a field of science. This study aims to comprehensively and systematically examine and explain the pillars of the philosophy of science as the epistemological foundation for the positivism and post-positivism schools of thought. The method used is a literature review, chosen because the author focuses on an in-depth analysis of philosophical and theoretical concepts. The results of this study show that scientific knowledge is supported by three main pillars of the philosophy of science: Ontology, Epistemology, and Axiology. Within the methodological framework, Epistemology plays a central role in determining valid criteria for truth. This led to the emergence of positivism, which was subsequently criticized and modified into post-positivism. The objective is for scientific knowledge to be able to explain and predict phenomena, as well as provide valid benefits.

Abstract

This article examines the shifting religious reference among young people from classroom-based religious teachers to social media preachers who offer flexible, accessible, and emotionally engaging content. Using a library research method, the study analyzes literature on the authority of classroom teachers, the influence patterns of digital preachers, and the evolving religious preferences of students. The findings reveal that although religious teachers hold formal legitimacy within educational institutions, their impact is often limited by theoretical teaching approaches, minimal personal interaction, and a lack of connection to students’ everyday realities. In contrast, social media preachers establish authority through emotional closeness, relatable language, brief messages, and content that aligns with adolescents’ lived experiences. This shift provides positive outcomes by broadening access to religious knowledge and offering emotional support, yet it also poses risks such as shallow understanding, misinformation, and the weakening of teachers’ guiding roles. The article proposes strategies for teachers to remain relevant, including digital integration, context-based pedagogy, strengthening students’ digital literacy, and fostering open dialogue. Overall, the study highlights the need for harmonizing classroom learning with digital platforms to ensure both spaces effectively contribute to shaping young people’s religious understanding.
