Abstract

The Fourth Industrial Revolution has brought profound transformations to nearly all aspects of human life, including social, cultural, and educational spheres. The rapid advancement of digital technology, artificial intelligence, big data, and information automation demands educational systems to adapt swiftly, creatively, and innovatively. Within this context, traditional Islamic education, such as pesantren, faces significant challenges in maintaining its relevance and sustainability. This is largely due to its reliance on classical learning models, such as the study of kitab kuning (classical Islamic texts), the use of traditional methods like sorogan and bandongan, and oral knowledge transmission that involves minimal integration of modern technology. Without strategic responses to these shifts, traditional Islamic education risks being marginalized amid the fast-paced global development. Nevertheless, the Fourth Industrial Revolution should not be viewed solely as a threat, but rather as an opportunity to foster value-based innovation in Islamic education. By integrating more adaptive curricula, utilizing digital technology, and adopting innovative teaching methods while preserving Islamic identity, pesantren and other traditional Islamic institutions can remain relevant, resilient, and even competitive in the global arena. Therefore, the Fourth Industrial Revolution should be regarded not as the end, but as a critical momentum for the revitalization and renewal of traditional Islamic education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the issues and challenges faced by pesantren-based madrasahs in implementing management and educational policies for their students. The methodology employed is a literature review, examining various reliable sources related to the administration of madrasahs and pesantren. The findings reveal that the myriad challenges and problems confronting pesantren-based madrasahs arise not only from external factors but also from numerous internal issues, such as limited human resources, suboptimal management practices, and a curriculum that has not yet fully adapted to contemporary needs. Inadequate facilities and infrastructure further impede the innovative processes. Based on these findings, the research concludes that there is a pressing need to enhance the quality of human resources through training and professional development, improve educational management, revise and develop a more contextual and integrative curriculum, as well as procure and upgrade the facilities that support the learning process. It is anticipated that these efforts will strengthen pesantren-based madrasahs as adaptive and innovative educational institutions capable of navigating the dynamics of modern educational developments while preserving the Islamic values that are their hallmark.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the supporting and inhibiting factors in managing pesantren financing based on Islamic entrepreneurship at Pondok Pesantren Al-Mashduqiah. This research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, and then analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing techniques. The findings indicate that the supporting factors in pesantren financing management include the charismatic leadership of the kiai, strong community support, and the enthusiasm of santri in learning and entrepreneurship. Meanwhile, the inhibiting factors consist of limited capital, lack of experts in managing certain business units, and the low self-confidence of some santri in entrepreneurial practices. The study concludes that optimizing Islamic entrepreneurship management in pesantren requires strengthening capital, enhancing human resource capacity, and developing the entrepreneurial mindset of santri to ensure the sustainability of pesantren financing.

Abstract

This study discusses the effectiveness, challenges, and technological developments in data-based education planning in the context of the digital era. The background of this study stems from the educational needs in the Society 5.0 era, which demands 21st-century competencies and the use of data to support evidence-based decision-making. The research uses a literature study approach by reviewing articles from reputable national and international journals in the 2015–2025 period. The analysis was conducted using a thematic approach that grouped the findings into three main dimensions, namely planning effectiveness, implementation challenges, and the development of Educational Data Mining (EDM) and Learning Analytics (LA). The results of the study show that data-based planning effectively improves objectivity, equity of services, and transparency in education governance. However, its implementation faces obstacles in the form of unintegrated data quality, low data literacy among educators, infrastructure limitations, and cultural and ethical issues related to privacy. Meanwhile, the development of EDM and LA opens up opportunities for planning transformation with predictive and prescriptive approaches that support personalised learning and adaptive resource management. This study emphasises the importance of integrating technological innovation, data governance policies, and human resource capacity building to strengthen the implementation of data-based educational planning in Indonesia.

Abstract

The global climate crisis has evolved from a mere environmental issue into a profound crisis of justice, with its impacts felt disproportionately by developing countries and vulnerable groups. Indonesia, with its high geographical and socio-economic vulnerability, has become one of the main arenas for the manifestation of this climate injustice. This article, compiled through qualitative literature study methods, argues that Islamic Education has a strategic role in shaping climate justice awareness and ethics. Still, its potential has not been optimally exploited. The analysis shows a significant gap between the visionary curriculum objectives and the teaching materials, which tend to be partial and do not respond to the urgency of the crisis. This article proposes an ethical framework rooted in Maqasid al-Shariah to bridge this gap. By reconceptualising Maqasid and placing environmental preservation (Hifz al-Bi'ah) as the foundation for the other five essential pillars (al-dharuriyyat al-khamsah), this framework can transform the discourse from mere nature conservation to the struggle for justice. The implications of this framework demand a double transformation in Islamic Education: content enrichment that integrates contextual case studies of climate justice in Indonesia, a deepening of ecological interpretation, and a methodological revolution through the adoption of action-oriented Project-Based Learning (PjBL). This transformation is expected to equip the younger generation of Muslims to become agents of change who can respond to the challenges of climate justice in a critical and constructive

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model in improving students’ learning outcomes in Fiqh among grade VIII A students at a madrasah tsanawiyah. The research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. Data were collected through observation, tests, and documentation. Observation was used to record teacher and student activities, tests were conducted to obtain data on learning outcomes, and documentation was used to capture the learning process. The average mastery score in the first cycle was 57%, which increased to 96% in the second cycle. These findings indicate a change in learning outcomes following the implementation of the PjBL model in Fiqh learning.

Abstract

The modernization of Islamic education is an inevitable necessity in responding to the dynamics of contemporary civilization characterized by the advancement of science, technology, and socio-political transformation. This article aims to analyze the concept of Islamic education modernization as an effort to relate Islamic values to the challenges of modernity while preserving the essence of Islamic spirituality and morality. Using a descriptive-qualitative approach and literature analysis from various scholarly sources on contemporary Islamic education, the study reveals that modernization involves curriculum reconstruction, integration between religious and general sciences, and the utilization of digital technology in learning. Socio-political dynamics play a significant role in shaping educational policies, while key challenges include the dichotomy of knowledge, inequality of educational facilities, and limited teacher competence in pedagogical innovation. Nevertheless, the future prospects of Islamic education remain promising if modernization is directed toward developing a progressive, humanistic, and value-based educational system. Thus, modernization should not be equated with westernization but understood as a continuous renewal process to meet modern challenges while maintaining Islamic identity.
