Abstract

Islamic education faces the challenge of balancing various sources of knowledge, including rationalism, empiricism and revelation. Rationalism emphasizes reason as the primary means of acquiring knowledge, while empiricism relies on sensory experience. Islam recognizes both approaches, but places revelation as the highest foundation. The lack of balance in the application of these three elements can have an impact on the quality of Islamic education. This research uses a qualitative approach with a literature study method to examine the thoughts of Muslim figures such as Al-Farabi, Ibn Sina, and Al-Ghazali. They offer a synthesis between rationalism, empiricism and revelation in building a holistic education system. The results show that the balance between reason, experience and revelation is an important foundation for the development of Islamic education. With proper integration, Islamic education can accommodate the development of science and technology without neglecting spiritual values. The findings confirm that the harmonization of these three elements is the main key in improving the quality of Islamic education in the modern era.

Abstract

The mamaca tradition represents a unique form of Madurese oral literature, embodying both Islamic values and local cultural wisdom. Despite its richness, scholarly studies have paid limited attention to the typology of its verse songs (tembang) and the narrative structures embedded within the performances, leaving a gap in understanding its literary and cultural significance. This study aims to analyze the typological characteristics of tembang and to uncover the narrative frameworks that structure mamaca as both a performance and a cultural text. Using a qualitative-descriptive method with an oral literature approach, the research was conducted in Bandaran Village, Pamekasan Regency. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews with local performers, and textual analysis of mamaca manuscripts. The findings reveal six principal tembang—Artate, Kasmaran, Durma, Salangit, Pangkur, and Sinom—each marked by distinctive thematic content and narrative patterns. These tembang not only articulate aesthetic expression but also encapsulate moral and religious teachings, conveyed through symbolic language and dialogic performance. The narrative structures highlight oppositional and complementary patterns that sustain both entertainment and didactic purposes. This study contributes to the field of oral literature by demonstrating how mamaca operates as an adaptive and transgenerational medium of cultural preservation, character education, and spiritual transmission. It underscores the importance of examining local oral traditions as dynamic systems of meaning that continue to shape communal identity in Madura.

Abstract

Elliptical cohesion is a part of research in the field of translation science, namely the expression of meaning from one language to another language as intended by the author. This study aims to identify the types of ellipsis cohesion found in Kitab Al-Furuq by KH. Zainal Abidin Munawwir and its Indonesian translation. It also seeks to analyze the translation strategies employed by the translator in handling ellipsis. Kitab Al-Furuq, which translates to ‘several differences’ in Indonesian, is one of the works of KH. Zainal Abidin Munawwir from the Al-Munawwir Islamic boarding school in Krapyak, Yogyakarta. It consists of 39 chapters across 60 pages, discussing differences in several Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh) rulings related to worship practices. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method, using translational, comparative, and interpretative approaches. The analysis identified 54 instances of ellipsis cohesion, consisting of 27 nominal ellipses, 8 verbal ellipses, and 19 clausal ellipses. Ellipsis in the source language, Arabic, when translated into the target language, Indonesian, results in different types, forms, and meanings. This variation occurs due to the distinct linguistic characteristics of Arabic and Indonesian. These ellipsis findings contribute to making both the source and target texts more concise, dense, and efficient while avoiding word repetition.

Abstract

In the mid-20th century, Indonesia underwent significant changes in politics, economy, and society, which greatly impacted the national education system. During the New Order era, education was considered a strategic tool for achieving national goals, including economic development and political stability. This study aims to consider the implementation and effectiveness of the 1968 and 1975 curricula in Arabic language learning in Indonesia. The 1968 curriculum was enacted as part of the post-G30S/PKI national policy, with an emphasis on strengthening the Pancasila ideology and basic mastery of Arabic. Five years later, the 1975 curriculum was enacted with a more flexible and student-based approach, adapting education to the development of science as well as social and economic needs. This research uses a qualitative approach with library research methods. Data were collected by documenting educational policies, official curriculum documents, and related academic studies. The results showed that the 1968 curriculum was more structural by emphasizing the mastery of grammar and vocabulary, while the 1975 curriculum was more interactive by incorporating cultural and religious aspects in Arabic language teaching. However, both curricula are faced with challenges in their implementation, such as limited resources and the readiness of teaching staff. Thus, this study provides insights into the development of Arabic language education policy in Indonesia and its implications for future curriculum development.
