Abstract

This community service activity aims to increase the capacity and skills of the Women's Forum of the GPM Lumahpelu Congregation in East Taniwel District, West Seram Regency, in processing local tubers into high-value flour. Tubers such as sweet potatoes, cassava, taro, and taro are abundant in the region, but their utilization is still limited to household consumption. Through this training, participants were introduced to simple tuber flour production technology, including raw material selection, washing, slicing, drying, flouring, and packaging. The training included counseling, hands-on demonstrations, and practical guidance on flour production using simple equipment available in the community. The training was attended by enthusiastic members of the GPM Lumahpelu Congregation's Women's Forum, who participated enthusiastically in every stage of the training. Evaluation of the training showed an 85% increase in participants' knowledge regarding hygienic and marketable flour processing and storage. Furthermore, participants gained an understanding of food diversification through the use of local flour for various processed products such as cakes and snacks. The results of this activity demonstrate that tuber flour production training can improve skills and open up opportunities for small businesses based on local food. This activity contributes to women's economic empowerment, strengthening household food security, and sustainably preserving local food resources.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to provide technical assistance and enhance understanding of the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) certification process for micro, small, and medium enterprises (UMKM) in Ambon City producing processed food products, specifically shredded beef bread, through collaboration with Balai Standarisasi dan Pelayanan Jasa Industri (BSPJI Ambon). Certification has become an urgent necessity for food UMKM, as it plays a critical role in ensuring product safety, quality, and traceability in accordance with food safety regulations, while also enhancing market competitiveness. The activity was carried out over a one-month period through a series of technical consultations, review of SPPT–SNI requirement documents, observation of laboratory testing, and field audit assessments. The results of the activity indicate that the certification process encompassing administrative verification, sample collection and testing, production facility audits, and certification team meetings was successfully completed by the UMKM participants. Testing of the shredded beef bread product showed that several parameters met the SNI requirements; however, the yeast content exceeded the standard limit, indicating the need for product reformulation. The field audit also identified several minor nonconformities related to equipment hygiene, product identification, and worker competency. After the required improvements were implemented, Balai Standarisasi dan Pelayanan Jasa Industri (BSPJI Ambon) issued the SNI certificate for the UMKM product. This activity demonstrates that certification assistance can effectively help UMKM understand standards, improve the quality of their production processes, and produce safe, consumable products that are competitive in the market. Furthermore, the issuance of SNI certification enables MSME actors to expand their market access.

Abstract

Forest fires in the Ambon Island region, particularly in Hutumuri Village, South Leitimur District, Ambon City, pose an environmental threat influenced by climate change, particularly during the dry season, land burning, and low public awareness, as documented in reports from the National Disaster Management Agency and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry's fire prevention policies. This outreach and education activity aims to increase public knowledge and participation through outreach, discussions, and initial fire response simulations, primarily targeting village officials, community leaders, and youth groups. The results demonstrate increased understanding, changes in attitudes toward environmental stewardship, and a collective commitment to mitigation efforts. The outreach and education activities demonstrate that the community is consciously, willingly, and on their own initiative, as well as as a group, willing to take effective and sustainable forest fire prevention measures.

Abstract

Forest degradation in the Maluku region, particularly on Ambon Island—driven by land-use conversion, unregulated deforestation, and a deficiency in ecological awareness—has posed a significant threat to environmental equilibrium. Hutumuri Village is a designated Customary Forest area, formally recognized under the Decree of the Minister of Environment and Forestry Number SK.7876/MENLHK-PSKL/PKTH/PSL.1/12/2020, enacted on December 28, 2020. Geographically, Hutumuri is situated across coastal and hilly terrains, rendering it highly vulnerable to flooding, landslides, coastal erosion, and the depletion of water resource quality. Consequently, community outreach initiatives—utilizing educational lectures, participatory discussions, and pre-test and post-test evaluations—were implemented to enhance knowledge and cultivate collective responsibility toward forest conservation. The results of this community service program indicate a marked improvement in public understanding and a positive shift in attitudes, serving as a foundational element for strengthening the long-term environmental sustainability of the village.

Abstract

The low consumption of vegetables, particularly among children, coupled with the highly perishable nature of mustard greens (Brassica juncea), poses a significant challenge for the community in Lilibooi Village. Local residents generally consume mustard greens in a traditional manner, lacking innovative processing that yields high economic value. This Community Service (PkM) initiative aims to introduce hygienic processing technology for mustard green chips to enhance the added value of local commodities and promote food diversification. The program employed active education and demonstration plot (demplot) methods, involving 35 participants from the PKK (Family Welfare Movement) and local youth in Lilibooi during March 2026. The implementation stages included socialization on the nutritional potential of mustard greens and practical training on chip production using coating techniques. The results indicate an improvement in participants' understanding and technical skills in transforming mustard greens into a crispy, more palatable snack. This innovation successfully modified the sensory characteristics of the vegetable into a more popular product, while simultaneously providing a solution to increase fiber intake. The downstreaming of mustard green chip processing technology has effectively bolstered community creativity and the potential for a creative economy in Lilibooi, although its sustainability remains highly dependent on consistent quality control and the stability of the raw material supply chain.
