Abstract

Green open spaces (RTH) are public areas that play a strategic role in climate change itigation, particularly as CO2 absorbers and O2 producers, microclimate regulators, urban pollution reducers, and creators of thermal comfort for urban communities. However, the lack of knowledge and awareness among the public has led to the neglect of RTH existence. People remain trapped in improper RTH waste management practices, contributing to greenhouse gas emissions that exacerbate global warming. This community service activity is an educational effort aimed at enhancing public knowledge, improving skills, and correcting improper RTH management practices. The activities include socialization on the role of RTH in climate change mitigation, training on RTH waste management, and a collective tree-planting initiative. The series of activities is expected to raise public awareness about the importance of maintaining and protecting RTH as a safeguard in climate change mitigation. Additionally, it aims to foster collective actions within the community to contribute to saving the planet.

Abstract

The lychee tree (Litchi chinensis Sonn.) is perennial fruit plant cultivated in yards and gardens on a small or large scale for the development of agro-ecotourism, agribusiness, and fruit agro-industry. In Naku village, lychee tree havenot been cultivated commercially, so the productivity and quality of the fruit are still relatively low. Developing lychee plantations in Naku for commercial purposes as part of an agro-ecotourism package requires a thorough understanding of the sustainable application of appropriate agro-eco-technology. Therefore, increasing the productivity and quality of lychee fruit in Naku requires a program to raise awareness of the potential for lychee agro-ecotourism development. The lychee agro-ecotourism technology package that was socialized in the Community Service activities in Naku village includes material on the potential for developing lychee agro-ecotourism, the function and benefits of lychee trees as agro-ecotourism landscape plants, land conservation and irrigation techniques for lychee, characterization of the Amboneinsis lychee variety and protection. It is hoped that the technology transfer in this socialization activity can be useful in motivating the people of Naku village towards the potential of developing lychee fruit agro-ecotourism which has high economic value and future business opportunities

Abstract

The BTN Passo Indah Waste Bank in Negeri Passo, Ambon City, is a community-based initiative focused on sustainable waste management. This waste bank aims to reduce the volume of waste disposed of and to increase public awareness of the importance of recycling. However, one of the main challenges faced is how to process organic waste effectively and efficiently. A practical solution to this issue is to convert organic waste into compost fertilizer. The implementation of the solid organic fertilizer (compost) training for the members of the BTN Passo Indah Waste Bank was carried out through three main stages: planning, theoretical training, and practical training. During the planning stage, participants were identified, training materials were prepared, and tools and materials were organized. The theoretical stage focused on understanding the concepts of organic waste management, the basic principles of composting, and the factors influencing the composting process. As a result of this training, community knowledge increased by 90%, and practical skills improved by 85%. The compost produced can be utilized by farmers in Negeri Passo to naturally enhance agricultural yields without relying on chemical fertilizers, reduce production costs, and maintain long-term soil health. Furthermore, this training opens up new economic opportunities for waste bank members, as the organic fertilizer produced can be sold to generate additional income for the local community.

Abstract

Knowledge and skills among school children, particularly in raising native chickens as a source of animal protein, can foster motivation, diligence, entrepreneurship, and strong character, enabling them to contribute positively to their communities. Native chicken farming has great potential to meet family needs, especially children’s animal protein intake, while also providing additional household income. Animal protein is a vital nutrient for improving children’s nutritional status and serves as a long-term investment in health. The protein and fat found in chicken meat and eggs supply the energy children need for daily activities. The government’s long-standing program on the intensification of local chicken farming aims to increase poultry populations and meet the growing demand for animal protein. The potential of native chickens can be further developed by using better breeds, good management, quality feeding, and the use of locally materials. The general objective of this initiative is to improve native chicken production by identifying superior roosters and hens and utilizing agricultural waste effectively. Its specific objectives are to enhance knowledge of protein’s importance and develop practical skills in raising high-quality native chickens. The target group is school-aged youth, with success measured through increased interest and participation during training, discussions, and demonstration plots.

Abstract

This Community Service (PkM) program was conducted to address the limited knowledge of the residents of Lilibooi Village, Leihitu Barat District, regarding the potential of Pisang Tongka Langit (Musa troglodytarum L.) as an abundant local commodity. Currently, this banana is generally sold in fresh form, making it highly perishable and underutilized as a value-added product. Situation analysis revealed that the community lacks understanding of how to process this natural resource into beneficial products, despite its high content of provitamin A and total carotenoids, which make it suitable as a functional food. The proposed solution involved organizing an educational workshop and hands-on training on processing Pisang Tongka Langit into high-quality banana chips . The method included lectures on nutritional potential and processing techniques, followed by demonstration and direct practice. This activity aimed to promote food diversification and create business opportunities to improve local economic welfare. The results indicated a positive community response, increased awareness of the banana’s potential, and improved skills in producing crispy, shelf-stable chips . However, challenges such as limited processing equipment and raw material availability require further support. In conclusion, the training provided valuable knowledge and practical skills as an entrepreneurial foundation for the residents of Lilibooi Village.
